Having one of those days, and was just wondering:

They are both cowards.

I donno....

My line of thinking is you got one life. Death comes to us all. My question is, why would you not love the fragment of life that you are lucky enough to have?

Nietzche was f**king retarded.

changing the world starts one person at a time, and we all are important enough to affect at least one , who then affects another, and so on and so on, until we see the result of a changing world....

uh...

A poem studied in school days is well in remembrance.

When I born
only I was crying
everyone else around me
was happy & smiling.

When I died
only I was happy
everyone else around my dead body
was sad & crying.

There were many great saints in india who ended their life silently without any hesitation when they thought that the task for which they got this human life is completed.

Saint dnyaneshwar at his 21 enter into a state of "Samadhi" because he felt that the mission of his life was complete.

i don't think it even has to be this 'deep.'
not everyone has a purpose in life.
i'll never forget my sixth grade history teacher telling us how insignificant we are.
most won't make any change in this world.
i'm not saying that because we won't make a change life isn't worth living,
but if our lives don't matter why would our deaths?
i'm such a little ray of sunshine.
haha.

What you say makes sense. I look at it if I were to jump off a bridge tomorrow; what difference would my death make? Oh, my friends and family will grieve for a bit but within a few days; everything will return to normal. So, my life is truly insignificant and I would be arrogant to think my life or death would affect anyone or anything. My parents told me many times my birth was a mistake and so it does ponder a question is to why I am even here or why I bother to exist. As you say; its not like I am going to change the world.

That's how I see it, too. We're here for a short time, make a small impact on those who know us, and then we're gone. Very few of us will ever do anything monumental like finding a cure for cancer or inventing a time travel machine. Most of us are, in the end, just meaningless cogs in a vast, uncaring machine.

yes I read the first book of hers in 10th or 11th grade I think - even at that idealistic age she was too stark and too romantic (in the literary sense) for me

I preferred Willa Cather and Anne Tyler - give me a dash of realism and a few multi dimensional characters....

but yes, philoshpohically I agree there is much to be learned from Ayn Rand - she scares me a little tho

Come on friends!!

Pl. don't think that way.

This human life is certainly not in vain. Not only we but even insects & wild animals too are born for purpose.

Your teacher, parents who ever have told you something negatively don't mean that you lose confidence about your life so much that you even feel it arrogance to say that your life is precious for others.

Can you please just think of donating your useful organs, blood to some needy people before thinking of ending this life??

I know that a lot of people think we're here for a purpose, everything happens for a reason, etc. I'm not one of those people.

I believe that the only real "purpose" we can have is the purpose we set for ourselves. Mine is to write books, for example, and that's something I decided for myself at some point. I don't think there's any destiny or fate or karma or divine intervention involved, I just see it as a decision I made some years back.

It isn't about losing confidence about life, it's realizing that our impact is brief and limited and has no real lasting effect. 100 years from now, very few of us will be remembered at all, in any context whatsoever. That's just the nature of things. People will remember you if you were the President of a country or something, or if you invented an amazing new technological breakthrough, but most of us are never going to do any of those things. Most of us will live out our lifespans in mediocrity and will die in the midst of mediocrity. The best we can hope for is to try to better ourselves just enough to get a glimpse of something better.

I often think the ones that will change the world are the ones that have something to contribute to help change it or those with money or those with the intelligence to invent something fantastic.

Well, those who considers "Life is for money"; can't ever change their or others life but those who understands that money is meant just for some convenience in life surely changes the world.

Intelligence of inventors has certainly changed our lives but those intelligent guys were born & brought up by some common men & women like us.

Mother teressa, nelson mandella,Mahatma gandhi,Abraham lincon,Jesus christ were neither rich nor any inventors but they changed & are changing even after their death lives of millions.

Neither money nor luxury but just our thinking is the one which can change our life.

Swami samartha says : Change your thinking to change your life.

I can't or won't speak for anyone else other than myself but I really don't feel I have made any contributions other than just adding to the population growth.

Do u have desire to contribute??

I have some ideas, just let me know if u r interested.

Yeah, Warhol sucked... (sorry Dict8). But that's my opinion. Art for art's sake isn't much of a topic in and of itself. Unless, it
procures money and fame... to whit... Andy did well.
Still, Picasso had all the skills of traditional understanding.
Artisticly speaking... he knew his chit.
I wasn't speaking so much of his choice of Cubism,
which most seem to judge him on... but that he fully understood
the mechanics of Art... I argue that because I'm an azz that way, see? He'd mastered this years before... imho.
Google his early years... Realism was fully and technically met.
That we all agree that Nietzche was a twit... makes me happy.
But in regard to Dark Thoughts... they all have their place. Each struggled... as most do. And Krupa pointed this out. Kudos.
Moving from darkness towards some sorta light is all that I'd hope for OP...

In my own personal opinion, Warhol was brilliant. He showed that "art" didn't have to end with Monet or Rembrandt or somebody. He understood that "art" was bigger than people had traditionally perceived -- he brought an "outside-the-(Brillo) box" perspective to it.

That we all agree that Nietzche was a twit... makes me happy.

Not "all" -- I find him insightful and I think he had a better grasp of reality than anyone since, with the possible exception of Dawkins.
Which is a different kettle of trilobites altogether.
