Is someone really lying to you if they believe what they are saying? My father is a fundamentalist Christian. He was a minister when I was growing up. I don't feel lied to in spite of the fact that I no longer believe what he does.

Technically if a person spreading a lie believes what he is saying then they themselves are not lying.

That is why one must be sure not to gossip.

But in the case of zealous religious people who truly believe literally what they are saying, you forgive them, for they do not know any better.

I just dont want the pamphlets on my doorstep.

Or the knock on the door I get regularly from the supposedly misguidedly 'well meaning' christians who want to tell me about Jesus.

Guess what. Ive heard. If I wanted to discuss Jesus, I would go to church where other people would talk about Jesus in an appropriate setting, not door to door.

If you want to invade someones privacy, to talk about Jesus, you better know them on a personal level and not have to refer to them as ma'am. You better know my name and how I conduct myself on a regular basis, and then maybe...that's a big maybe...I will talk about Jesus with you.

Put a pentagram on your door. They will not enter.

Strangely pentagrams were once a Christian symbol used to keep evil and witches away. Now it works keeping Jehovah witnesses and other "missionaries" away.

It really works.

Well God has helped me to the realization that God does not care
what religion or rituals one observes as long as you are a kind and
upright person.

So I don't believe in proselytization. I think it is insulting
and needless. If one is a good and ethical person then they will
never be punished by a just God.

I wouldn't really call them predators though. More like weasels.

It was Rabbi Tovia Singer who referred to them as predators.
I think of them more as recruiters or solicitors.

thats very accurate

its like going to a veteran parade and being offended if people there are pro military and expressing such beliefs,,,

I think conventions and churches are the proper place for such 'recruitment',, doorsteps not so much

although I dont oppose testifying and sharing information, ,,,

Not really. More like going to a veterans parade and having them
tell you that you have to believe what they believe or you are
going to H E double toothpicks where you will be scourged for
eternity. So you have to believe what they believe, convert
and enlist for the war...or....eternal damnation...plus they
parade to your door, knock, stick their foot in your door, leave
literature, come back weekly etc. etc.

But what is your opinion of the tactics used? Ministers calling themselves "Rabbi" and calling their churches "synagogues," and calling Jesus "Yeshua?"

I am also curious as to why the name Yeshua is any better than Jesus for these particular Christians?

I have never known any spiritual predators. I know many Christians who believe they need to share the Gospel with everyone, but not a one who would keep talking if I said "stop". Yes, I've had plenty of Jehovah's Witnesses and Mormons and Baptists at my door. But, none who kicked in my door or refused to leave when I said, "no, thanks."

I don't resent them for telling me I will burn in hell if I don't believe in X,Y or Z because I DON'T believe this. I never understood why people would get mad at someone for this. One of my friends gets furious at Christians because "They believe I am going to hell!" Well, who cares? It's like she believes it's going to be true because they say it is. ohwell

Try this scenario on and tell me if you would or wouldn't resent what this Baptist tried to pull on me one time:

I'm working long 2nd & 3rd shift hours on my job and I'm awoken from a deep sleep by a loud knock at the door. There stands a 'missionary' with some 10-15 yr old kids with religious pamphlets. I told them "No thanks, I'm not a believer and I don't want to become one."

"Well why not?" says the haughty adult missionary.

"I'm sorry, but I don't buy the Bible's explanations for human nature. Or the nature of creation for that matter."

"Weeeeeeellllllll, SIR, just WHO do you think created all !this! HMMMMMMM?", said the HAM.

"I'm not having the discussion with you. Please leave.", I told him.

Whereupon he turns to the kids, "See, you'll run across people like THIS".

I just slammed the door because this kind of manipulation ALWAYS makes me angry.

Anyone want to lay odds on what would happen if I, as an Unbeliever, went door to door using kids as props to proselytize for Atheism?

And when was the last time you heard of an Atheist Priest covering up for another Atheist Priest who was molesting children?

I have never honestly heard a christian minister refer to him or herself as rabbi or a christian church referred to as synagogue

I dont really have much of an opinion on what a building is called, I do have more curiosity about why anyone would call themself rabbi if they are not jewish

I believe there are many translations of the biblical name given to the Son of God, people want to use what they think is the 'correct' name.

It would be like someone calling me micky in front of those who have knowledge that my name is michele..So whatever a person believes is the 'correct' name is probably the name they prefer to hear others use.

I dont agree with aggressive 'sales' in any situation. I consider such a scenario similar to someone at my door wanting to sale me candy bars or a security system or free oil change and not accepting that I dont wish to have any. I dont need to get nasty about it with them and they dont need to proceed in questioning me once I have said no.

I was raised by mormons and baptists....
yeah I know, they can't even get along with each other.

I have had people wanting to save me my entire life. I use to find it extremely annoying. I decided that those who wish to share their religions with me, had to be open to a two sided conversation...they also had to hear my views.

For the most part the 'preaching' has stopped. Most have no interest in a conversation, only wanting to express their point of view, not really learn about someone else's.

I got busted for being a spiritual predator. We are still great friends though and have the utmost respect for each other. We concluded that it was one of those damned if you do and damned if you don't things. I was trying to save her soul and her butt at the same time. She told me I couldn't have my cake and eat it, too. I still pray for her and she forgives me for it. Damned Atheists. I just love them.laugh

She brought me a dinner to work two nights ago and we got to catch up on old times. Since she sued the place and won enough to get the nice car she drives I am not sure they would hire her back. But I wouldn't put it past her to try. laugh

I think it is important to look very carefully at the message of Christ. The best witness is to live by the values proposed in the commandments that include loving thy neighbor as thyself. Therefore respect needs to be inserted at all times unless these particular evangelists end up scaring off more than they convert.

nonetheless I see no reason to stop them. the wisdom or folly of their deeds will be shown

Guess what. Old abominable has an abominable friend. I couldn't believe there wan another one out there like me. I came to get report and there she was raging mad and crying at the same time. She is still trying the super woman thing. I thought she would have gave up on it. But I guess not. So I got to speak for her. Report is, "Life has been hell and I am ready to get out of hell."laugh So superman checks in and super woman clocks out.laugh
