lol don't pay no mind to funches. No intelligent conversation or anything of any importance ever comes from him, he just comes in here and raises hell and trys to get people angry with him so they will start throwing a fuss out of aggrivation so they'll get in trouble rather then him.

Cowboy...I'm pretty sure the Pharisees said the same about Jesus ...perhaps that why God inspired someone to place in the bible "judge not"....

thanks Cowboy....to watch believers act like they claim non-believers act is pure karma ...pretty sure Jesus is proud of you

oh but i wasn't judging you. I didn't say you were a huge sinner and will go to hell or said you were an idiot or anything along those lines. Just telling someone the facts about how you act towards posts in this forum.

Example: one person says ' I believe christ died for our sins and noone gets to see the Father but through the son'

the next person says "I believe christ was not the son of God but the human son of Mary and Joseph and that he spoke wisely but did not save us from sin.

...so far noone is belittled,,,,

the third person says " there is no proof Christ ever existed, those who believe in him must also believe in santa claus'

DING DING DING,,, belittling anothers belief

I'm responding to your words as written - perhaps you are referring to a comment which I would find belittling if I saw it in context.

Taking your words without context, though, as written....the idea that that is 'belittling' is your perception. To me, that person might simply be being straightforward in their opinion - and while I disagree with the phrase "must also", the basic idea that these beliefs might be comparable seems reasonable to me.

Should we be discouraged from expressing such comparisons because someone else might be offended, in their own sensitivity?

I agree.

To say Christ is the same as Santa Claus is not belittling at all. I think there may be more proof of Santa's existence than Christ's.

Because someone doesn't revere what you revere doesn't make it belittling to anyone at all.

A person best know that if they believe something as "transparent and murky" as a religion it will be questioned and unbelieved and rightly so.

No, I was suggesting an interest in starting ONE thread with that purpose and asking about what title might draw people to do that (share their beliefs without attacks).

Okay, thanks for explaining. I've created many threads in the past (been here three years) in a similar spirit; I'd explain my hopes/expectations at the beginning. I think you should just do it, and see how it goes. If you aren't satisfied, you could just try again later, we have a lot of turnover here, so the community is a bit different all the time.

i beg to differ. Your posts make most people angry. Jesus inspired would not upset anyone. Maybe the meaning of what you're trying to say is inspired by Jesus but the post it self is not cause Jesus would have you word it in a form that does not offend anyone.

How do you know? Did you do a poll?

I think you should. While I disagree with him sometimes, I've never been angered by Funches posts. Sometimes I am amused.

Jesus inspired would not upset anyone.

I thought that scripture indicated that if you are following Jesus, you WILL upset people?

Yes. My point was obviously COMPLETELY lost for some reason. I was interested in starting a thread where people MERELY shared what their own beliefs entailed, without needing to comment on anyone elses belief.

Perhaps I will try at a later time to get some interest in such a thread as this has turned into far more of a philisophical debate than my simple question was ever intended to be.

I know cause i read alot on this forum and read people responces to his comments. Maybe not most people are made upset by him but many. I've never read or heard of anything along the lines of following christ will upset anyone can you teach me something with the scripture of it? I know people will look down on you and pretty much belittle you cause of your following of the lord, but not that it will upset them in particular. And as a christian we are to teach the world of the Heavens, God, Jesus, and everything along those lines. But when someone disagrees we aren't to belittle them or turn it into an arguement, because arguements only cause anger and turn people away. We bring the Lord to them by talking to them, then we let the Lord take it from there with there conscience.

So, are you saying that if our purpose is just to share out own beliefs, we should draw a line a stop at the point where sharing or own beliefs has more to do with sharing our beliefs about other's beliefs? Am I getting this right?

No, I was suggesting an interest in starting ONE thread with that purpose and asking about what title might draw people to do that (share their beliefs without attacks).

just simply do what the other Christians tried to do in this forum with that same idea .. start a Christian Coffee and Chat House" thread ....

until it get deleted the thread will appear nice but be plagued with attacks encrypted and embedded in the posts as the posters use passive aggressive methods to release their pinned up fury

and that is why to expect anything beyond saying on topic falls into the realm of miracles ...unless all the poster agree to get a BORG lobotomy

it is indeed sad then, that adults cant refrain from insult to share their beliefs....but perhaps you have a point, judging from how these things usually go,,,

Why would anyone want to "merely share their own beliefs without needing to comment on anyone elses"?

What would be the point?

I can state my beliefs on here but the point is for others to be able to comment, question, examine, dispute, disagree, etc...
if I don't want that to happen I will not post my belief.

The point would be to give insight into another way of life,,,,but I have already conceded that this is perhaps just not a place where enough have an interest to merely read and learn,,,, I guess we should just stick to googling information about other cultures or religions instead of hearing from those who are a part of them

I say go for it now, and later, too. There are many people who might be interested in that thread who have already tuned this one out, so they aren't here to offer feedback on your idea. I tune out most threads that involve ongoing argument that makes little progress. Unless... what you really wanted was specifically for the participants of this thread to participate in a sharing thread?

No, I just wanted to hear from a Buddhist about what their belief entails, and perhaps a muslim about what their belief entails,,and etc,, and etc,, instead of just relying on google or media.

I did want a sharing thread, like a show and tell about religions.
There are really only two forums (that I can see) which have anything to do with religion and I felt christian singles would imply that no other religion or belief except christianity would be expressed or shared. This was the only other thread, general religion.

I just generally wanted to know about OTHER peoples religions and faiths and beliefs...not judge them or comment on them,,,perhaps its too odd an idea?

Dragoness's photo

Considering that this thread was started to discuss the dangers of religions in large doses or in the wrong minds or when they become to powerful, I would say we have been pretty much on target.

Religions are dangerous and people need to not be complacent and just allow them to do all they want to do because if they do they will soon be enslaved in a society of religious dictatorship.

Religious people can see this as logical without taking offense to it.

All they have to do is think about it.

MsHarmony...even people that are married to each other may be incapable of sharing beliefs without insults ...

so what do you want...everyone to hold hands and sing we are the world .....by suggesting that people can not refrain from insults suggest that only you are capable of doing so

you know you have been known to get in a couple of good punches in yourself ...so what you say....can we just debate and let the moderators do their job
