I never tell my secrets:wink: but I would guess they (mods) are so glad this did not explode into what we sometimes have on the political threads that they just left it alone...lol

Maybe???

It can be both Religious and Political though don't ya think?

I have yet to meet a pro lifer that is not religious that I knew of anyway.

just curious, figured it was because the OP mentioned her being a Christian on page 1, but didn't think the topic pertains in the religious forum.

But who am I to question why people do things?

hmmm, isn't that what's being done anyway, pro-lifers questioning and condemning pro-choicers and vice versa.

Yea, well when people differ so much on an issue it can be hairy.

I cannot even imagine denying the right to a woman to do what she needs to do when faced with a pregnancy. That is beyond my scope of rights I have over others.

Is there anybody who thinks that abortion is a good thing? Not the right to an abortion, but an abortion itself? Good, we all agree.

Prolifers. Your goal is zero abortions, right?

Pro-choicers. You wouldn't be upset if there were zero abortions, would you?

So if abortions clinics were open and legal and nobody showed up, everyone would be happy, right?

Now suppose prolifers are successful at making all abortions illegal. Do you think there will still be abortions? Why yes, of course. Illegal ones. And trips to Canada and Mexico. So while prolifers have then succeeded at making abortion illegal, they have not succeeded at their stated goal of reducing abortions to zero. Far from it.

So what is left to do? The hard work of changing society's attitudes and practices. So that women(and girls) never get pregnant when they don't want to. So that abortion is not considered an acceptable alternative except in the rarest cases. That there will be help with your unwanted pregnancy.

All this takes time. And precious time has already been lost. Squabbling over Roe vs. Wade and various other laws at the state level. If both sides agree that zero abortions is the goal to shoot for, then why are we fighting and not getting to work?

GREAT POINT!

its an emotional life long decision that a person has to live with forever.

thats my calling as a Christian among many other things.

I nipped a few things out.

I find people have a tendency to obsess over things, or play it up if it makes them feel better. I terminated a pregnancy, and have no emotional issues related to it. Shrugs. But then, I don't view a fetus as a functioning and separate entity until that fetus can survive on it's own outside of the womb. After that, full rights! I wouldn't have an qualms about fighting cancer in my body, and that's also a part of my body.

You need to read up on your Christian history. Might start with the South American Indians. Those "Good Christian" priests were big into baptizing babies and then splattering their brains out to be sure there were no fighters to grow up and rebel against them. Medieval times, the Church allowed for women to have abortions up until the "quickening", which is roughly the start of the second trimester.

JimmyTheGent has the best response, methinks!

I agree Jimmy's answer was excellent. Pro choice does not mean we like the ideal of abortion.

My stance will always stay that I have no right to tell a pregnant woman or girl what to do when she faces the choices she has. With the over populatin of this world and all the unwanted children already here and the child abuse and neglect that goes on, I will not force a woman to have children she doesn't want to have.

My intent in even starting this thread was not to offend anyone or stir the pot but ask a general question....but I guess it is almost impossible not to cause a stir with topics of any contraversial issues. Being this is a "dating site" forum and also am wanting to make friends, I wanted to bring up an issue that is important to me and see who out here has the same beliefs in this area as i do...thats the only reason for this...If I offended anyone, that wasnt my intent...just a conversation :)
