the problem is that Americans as a people have moved from a producing society to a consumer society. We don't make sh*t anymore but we consume at a ridiculous rate and finance it all on credit
China, Korea, Taiwan, and India do all the producing now and we keep buying their stuff on credit |

We can hardly compete any more as you have stated earlier. Not to mention the selling off of American companies to foreign entities and worse still American soil. |

I'm not so worried about the selling of American property. We were freaking out on that back in the 80's when the Japanese were buying up everything. Half of Hawaii was Japanese owned in the 80's. But when their economy crashed they had to sell it all back |

So, without being priced fairly, you would not by American, is that the idea? Let's consider what fair is. Do Americans have Universal Health care? No they dont, and you would not have them have. So why should a car manufactured in Japan without that company paying for a proper medical plan be allowed access to our market without a protective tariff leveling the price to offset the cost of a decent medical plan for American workers. Do you suggest Americans just do without? Companies in China pay slave wages, but dont have to follow environmental laws, and safety laws that are in place here. Sure, in that environment it is easy to produce a less expensive textile product, but we all see the problems associated with food safety and the effects on their environment. Are Americans supposed to pollute and ignore safety concerns while lowering their median income to $6,000 a year just so American companies can compete. Pharmaceuticals, Much cheaper to produce them in India, but do Americans see a cost improvement? No, but to produce them here requires companies to be more environmentally responsible and takes away from the CEO's bonuses. Same thing with electronics! Protective Tariffs preserve the standard of living in America and preserves our jobs. Not to mention concerns with the environment, human rights, and consumer safety. After-all, we are the largest market in the world! You sound like you have given it a thought! And now that you know the right thing to do, you will still not buy American! OMG, to which extent would you go just in order to blame whoever else for your own decisions? I used to be careful to buy American. I don't bother any more, it does no good for me to support corporate American if corporate american doesn't return the support to the american market place. It's a pointless endevor. My only recourse it to let those corporations know that their method of making money isn't acceptable to me, and the only way I can do that is not buy their products just because they are American made. The American public tried to support corporate America some 30 years ago, when that support wasn't returned the American public registered their dissatisfaction in the same way I have. They want my support back now, they will have to give back first. |

They dont care Davy.
We are about to become insignificant to them. We've already lost most of our Manufacturing ability, and we are close to losing significance as a consumer market! No money. No consumer. No market! |

No consumer. No market! It is not just the American market that is failing, it is the world market. You are making the same mistake those companies are making. Yes they will out last us for a brief while but not long. The whole thing will colapse and at present if the American market place isn't restored it won't be long away. |

OK, Davey, What would you perceive to be a solution to America becoming again, a producing Nation? Or, do you believe we are on a collision course to collapse? |

Um most of the companies haven't moved they've move their work force over seas but not the companies themselves. If you wish to know why then try learning something about our tax law. 55% is nothing when you only pay it on 10% of your income. We have more tax loopholes and write offs than any other country. |

I enjoy reading the inane thoughts of those here who know ABSOLUTELY nothing about business but have all of the answers. Hilarious. |

Corporations need to be profitable. It's as simple as that. Tax the hell out of them. Let the unions jack wages beyond what the market will bear and then b!tch when they pull up stakes and go elsewhere to be profitable? What the hell? Johnny makes $30.00 pushing a broom for the Widget Company so the company has to raise the price of the widgets to compensate and remain profitable while Janx Zu over in China is making a good wage within the walls of China's economy as their cost of living is lower and his company makes the same type of widget. So what does Johnny do? He saves money by buying the Chinese widget instead of the American one because he wants to enjoy a higher standard of living..... as we all do. Over simplified for a certain individual but you get the point. |

Why do I feel like I am debating a 6th grader? I own 2 companies and am involved in the accounting process. I also worked as an assistant to a tax accountant and saw how things were done for the larger corps and persons with very large incomes (learned a lot there). What are your qualifications? Yet another nice try at diversion, when you don't know what your talking about accuse the other. |

Gotta get money back in the hands of the working class. Right now that means some of the policies recommended by the left. If they were done right (so far they haven't been) it could us back on the right road. So what do I think? I think we are in deep sh!t. I'm just doing my best to end up on the top of the sh!t pile, and pray that too doesn't collapse. |
