The problem is that Peacekeepers are constrained to follows Rules of Engagement. They cannot initiate fire, can only return fire if they are under direct fire (as opposed to protecting others who are under fire). Congo and Darfur I haven't heard anything like that but I will look.

So how can they help? We already know that the Palestinians are firing rockets at Israeli citizens, what good would come from having some UN "peacekeepers" stand there and say "Look at those rockets."?

Change the Rules of Engagement. It's been done.

Those were the Rules of Engagement in Rwanda, and are for many of the missions. When the Rules of Engagement allow for the Peacekeepers to take action to protect populace opposing sides tend to play by the rules.

And who would the UN Peacekeepers go to protect? Everybody? I doubt it. They are only calling on the Israelis to stop their completely legal retaliation against the Palestinian terrorists. If the UN Peacekeepers started attacking the Israelis, then things would escalate out of control.

 Too bad no one has the balls to stand up to the Israelis and make them stop annihilating a primitive and defenseless group of people they hold in captivity.

Too bad you are a useful idiot for the genocidal terrorists who have dedicated their children's lives to killing Jews.

Before Arafat and the PLO took over, Palestine had the highest standard of living of any Arab country. After the PLO took over, their standard of living took a huge drop. Businesses were closed if they were owned or served Jews, because they were "collaborators". Flash forward to the Israeli pull out from Gaza. The Palestinians destroyed the giant green houses that had been bought by Bill Gates for them. These green houses were so big that they were able to feed everyone in Palestine and give them some crops to sell. They were destroyed for no decernable reason by Hamas following the pull out. So if anybody is starving the Palestinian people, it's Hamas, PLO and Fatah. Facts are greater than fiction.

Facts and Fiction... okay, wasn't Hamas running in opposition to the PLO? Is it not odd that Fatah has been treated like our buddies now that they are lesser Palestinian party?

If both Hamas and Fatah are terrorists, can I not say the same about the Mainstream Republicans and Democrats?

Blue helmets don't do any good, just look at Iraq & Afganistan our soldiers go there and are fired on by both sides. They may still be fighting each other, but now they concentrate on us. They DON"T want us to solve their problems, they have their OWN solutions. They just want us to come & enforce their rules with them. Complaining about the jews dropping bombs is rather futile when you're busy firing rockets at them. What you have there is a family squabble thats been going on since abraham. Doesn't matter who you help, you're wrong and if you don't help, you're STILL wrong. Quit trying to lay the blame and help lay the foundation for a peaceful solution.smokin

it is no longer about the land. Israel is tired of waiting for America to get rid of Hamas. This is a fight and war against terrorism. Hamas has been terrorizing the Israelis for a long time.

Hamas is an American enemy also. But America is too busy with Iraq to help rid the world of Hamas.

Israel has also dealt with Hezbollah. What did America do to help with their common enemy? Nothing but sat on their asses in a country they shouldn't be in.

In most modern cases the CTs work in such a manner as to target non-military opportunities, while interspered within the native population with the objective that a counterstrike will inflict heavy civilian casualities, which it then uses as propaganda. Most of these groups have studied the old French film "The Battle for Algiers".

I have never understood this- where is the line between making a life for your people and fighting for your rights, freedom, etc. But then again, we don't see our own cities rising up to throw dealers out of our neighborhoods, do we?

It's interesting that you don't have a problem with Hamas committing war crimes against the Israelis. The Israelis have every right to protect themselves. They waited six months while constantly warning Hamas that they would retaliate if they didn't stop firing rockets into Israel. Israel had no legal or moral responsibility to not retaliate immediately. Their citizens were under attack for six months before their government authorized retaliation. If that doesn't give you pause, then you are not thinking straight.

Here's the funny thing: True story by the way. Israelis determined a particular house was being used to fire rockets into Israel. They also determined that people lived in the house. So they dropped leaflets onto the house saying "We are going to bomb your house in 30 minutes, get out". So Hamas brought in a bunch of women with babies to stand on the roof of the house. Hamas knows that Israel values human life, so they wouldn't bomb with women and children on the roof. But if Israel had bombed anyways (perhaps they wouldn't see the women and children) then Hamas would have had a public relations victory by being able to show how "horrible and cruel" the Israelis were being.

I'm absolutely sure that you *think* you are making a point.

So let me explain why you are not.

I was talking about Palestine under Israeli control...between 1967 and 1980(?). You are showing statistics from TODAY, not 1967 to 1980. The statistics today are meaningless to the conversation of the standard of living in another time period.

When Israel controlled Palestine, Israel had the 21st highest standard of living. On the Human Development reports website you linked, they are #23 (ahead of the UAE). When Israel controlled Palestine, Palestine was treated as part of Israel. They had nearly the same standard of living (it was slightly lower due to infrastructure). Under Israeli rule, Palestine had the highest standard of living of any Arab nation (even though they are not a nation).

I was VERY specific, I said before the PLO took over in Palestine. So why would you think that looking at today's statistics would be historically accurate?
