Topic: Woman blackmailed by former church | |
---|---|
What I dont understand is that this poor woman LEFT. She left the church. What right did they have to pursue it at all? Does that mean if you join a church at some point in your life, its an eternally binding contract? Can you not just leave without facing retaliatory action? Perhaps they can't afford to loose whatever money they get of her? |

She might have been high up in the church hierarchy. Thats all I could think of as a potential reason for this hostility being directed towards her. I cant imagine this taking place with an every day parishioner?

If it is a small church they would pay attention to everyone.
And to me it sounds like a small church. |

the situation just seems weird
first how did they know the two was having sex ..did the kids tell ..did a church member see it peeping through their window or did the kids film it and uploaded it on youtube also why would the church want the two lust demons to break up ..wouldn't they just consul the two to convince them to stop their heathenous fornication ways .. to demand they break up seems somewhat extreme unless one of the other church members has the hots for one of the two people involved and are jealous also why did the woman leave her kids as active members in the church while she goes off jezebel-ling with her lothario but either way the church couldn't have given her any more public humiliation then she did going on a News Program ..also it's the church responsiblity to keep their flock under control it she disagreed with the church methods or how they do their business of public humiliation then why leave her kids there to be taught by them unless she approved but let's face it ....she's guilty as charge |

She would only be guilty of something if she had remained in the church but she had already left. You can only be guilty if you consider it a problem. Having sex out of wedlock is not a crime. You can not be arrested for it. If someone else considers it to be morally objectionable behavior, it exists in as much as they believe it to be. It does not effect you on a personal level.

it's like it's run by the town elders in the movie footloose. I remember that. No dancing allowed at the public school. |

I think that attending a church that is this silly could be very entertaining.

Yeah, I know of a church here that is like that. They base it on the bible teaching of confronting the sinner with one person and a witness and if they don't change you take some more people and then finally you tell eveyone. The first Sunday I went to this church the pastor got up and told us all about some guy by name who left his wife for another woman. Wow, I didn't know that there were churches like that. That's sad. Yeah, it is sad. It was when my ex and I were first married. We decided to start going to church together and thought it was important for our boys who were quite young at the time. This was one of a few churches we shopped around at. Another church, a very strict Baptist church, demaded that you surrender your tax returns in order to join so that they could "hold you accountable" for tithing the right amount. We ended up going to a Catholic Church (my ex is a Catholic from birth and raised Catholic). My ex made the decision and said it was because the services were shorter than the Protestants. Anyway, I don't tell these stories to bash Christians in any way. I have never had any experiences with any other kinds of churches or religious institutions, but if I had I am sure I would have some pretty disgusting stories from them as well. Organized religion tends to be "not pretty" which is why I refuse to join a Wiccan church. I know those people who run it locally and they are a bunch of nuts. |

They won't get mine. Funny - I always thought that Catholic services were longer then Protestant services. |

Give up tax returns?! They won't get mine. Funny - I always thought that Catholic services were longer then Protestant services. Sunday Catholic Mass is about an hour exactly. Most of the Protestant churches out here run a Sunday service that is 90 minutes to 2 hours. |

I've been a member of two churches like that. As a kid I went to an Episcopalian church. It lasted an hour to 1 hr. 15 minutes. It all depended on Baptisms and Communion. |

Lutheran and Episcopalian are VERY similar to Catholic. I went to Episcopalian as a teenager for a couple of years and it looks just like Catholicism. |

I dont think this church will last very long after if it goes ahead and does this.Thats been my experience with churchs that start doing silly stuff like this and word gets out.It blows their credibility with the community and it is very difficult for them to recover.
