Ive had Vista since the day it was released ! Its great . Ive had NO
spyware issues like I did w/XP . Ive had no need for virus protection . I also have an HP printer which I didnt think would work BUT I actually didnt have to install anything . HP printers are pretty much plug and play w/VISTA . All the drivers you need will be there . Maybe I havent had a problem because im a computer technician working . Ive found problems are usually caused by the user or atleast the users fear of something NEW ! The security popups can be a bit annoying with VISTA ..... Also stonekeeper if you have to pay someone to come hook this computer up to your network they are ripping you off ! If you need any help let me know . |

I have vista also. I have had vista it since the beta stages.I am a tech
geek though. It's pretty cool. I have been able to run vista with almost anthing that I tried. You just have to run it a a different compatiblity mode. Oh and by the way, any windows OS is easy to network to other windows boxes. just make sure they are part of the same network. Then it's just a matter of shared files. But Linux rules. |

ok im impressed with vista at least for a minute...it was able to
establish an ethernet link without any assitance...this was not the case with xp...im likin it :) |

Vista is supposed to be more multimedia based then XP was. It is also
supposedly more secure I have seen no proof of that though as of yet. As far as Windows always having DOS in it that is not totally correct. DOS short for Disk Operating System has been crippled since Windows XP came out. You can boot to a command prompt but running DOS in a window is not the same as running it standalone. I am not looking forward to Vista because it is not compatible wiht Dreamweaver 8 from what I have read maybe by the time I switch over it will be but as of now I have heard it is not. I am pretty sure if you have an HP Laser printer you will have no issues connecting to a Vista PC and as you found out already anyone can hook it up to a network or internet connection it walks you right through it. I would watch out for the firewall settings though be sure you know how to configure them when in doubt find someone who knows what they are doing as that is your security from the outside world. Too much info can be gotten over the web about people they don't even know they give it out freely. |

Codecs , Driver issues , TV Card might not work Depends on the brand ,
MEMORY HOG ,Stay Away from it for 2 or 3 years untill they get the bugs worked out of it ! Now if you like the new pretty pictures That vista has. Well have somebody email you the pictures ! You can add it as your background and look like vista ! XP PRO RULES |

Windows XP Pro only rules the windows OS catergory.
But totally, Linux rules. Why do you think that they are tring to make windows more like Linux? |

Well, this post might be a repeat idea...but vista is pretty much incompatible with a whole bunch of older software. Very disappointing.

I wholeheartedly agree with that one. Very incompatible with many programs, and has MANY bugs. I don't know how many times I have had to reboot this thing. I have a Dell Inspiron 1501 with the Vista, and god it's good, but terrible at the same time. It will constantly freeze up and make me need a reboot. It makes weird noises when it doesn't want to cooperate, and definitely will go blank screen on me a lot. And my favorite program to use is Corel Paintshop Pro, and I have no clue if it will even be compatible or not... I hope it's compatible...

I recently got a new computer with Vista, and have had no serious issues. The printer driver thing is a problem, and I had to get another printer. It was just easier and not that expensive. So far, have been able to use most software I chose to load. I was very apprehensive about Vista, but getting more comfortable. No problems with freezing up or some of the other stuff I've heard about.

1) Get rid of Norton, and install AVG. Norton is a system hog.
2) If you can, contact your laptop manufacturer and see if there is a downgrade to XP 3) If there isnt, then you will probably be better off seeing if you can find all the drivers from your system elsewhere for Xp. 4)I cant advertise saleable software, but there are some superb programs out there that will enable you to reformat your hard disk and reinstall XP 5) Then there is another one that will search for and install all the drivers you need for your system from the manufacturers automatically. Alternatively, learn to live with incompatibility issues, constant updates and annoying technical problems. The world's greatest operating system (for a pc) was, indeed, Win 98SE, but you try getting any software for it now. Good luck |

I've heard alot of people have had problems with Vista, and have downgraded to XP.
My personal experience with it is that it's not that different from XP if all you're doing is listening to music and surfing the web. |
|
|
|
i used Vista for maybe 2 weeks but none of my games were compatible with it,so i removed it and went back to XP.if i can't play my games on it,i ain't using it!
|
|
|
|
That is very true.
I downgraded my desktop to XP and I like it that way. But then I copy a lot of DVDs (which takes "interesting software" that hates Vista), I have a great printer/scanner/copier that doesnt work with Vista (or OSX ) and the other software I use to monitor my pc works well on XP and doesnt on Vista. I think I came out of it rather well |

Windows VISTA
NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO It makes your easy, reliable, and bug free Windows experience a horrible one. Windows Vista makes and with a bit of and a lot of and makes gamers say while Microsoft execs are because they have all your money so you feel |

I have had my Vista Viao for about four months now and have had no real problems with it. It runs well and without any hiccups. I like some of the features like the auto defrag, and the Aero interface is cool. It does have it's bugs but you have to work with them we said the same about XP when it came out, and when 95 came out and I don't remember past that.
