true...they do come here to buy things like cars and other goods....but the Canadian criminals don't come here to buy guns because they are "cheap"....they come here because they are easy to buy and there is TONS of selection....

ive had one idiot try to break into my home while i was there. he was met at the door with a loaded colt model 1911 45 acp,, and i have never seen someone go whiter than that fella did. he was begging me not to kill him,, and i didnt, i called the law to come get him. had he came in with a knife or gun in his hand, it would be a much diffrent outcome. not too many people will want to keep on trying to steal from someone when a loaded gun is pointed to the side of their head. i can and will protect what i have worked hard for.
Agreed...and you should have that right.....but with the lax gun laws that aren't preventing guns from getting into the hands of these criminals...either you or him is luckey he didn't have a gun himself that night....

Lax Gun Laws Really aren't the Problem, the Problem is the Way we treat Criminals. if you use a Weapon of any Kind to Commit a Crime You Should have an automatic Life Sentence Period. We the People Should not have to Put up with ass Holes who Don't wanna Toe the line and be honest and Work for things they Want! *I Know I'm a Horrible Person for Saying this but Your Opinion is Your Problem, not mine!!!* ( * that was for the Bleeding Heart Libs on Here of which there's no Shortage of)

Actually.....that is a brilliant idea and would support that law wholeheartedly!!!.....its an Awesome idea the more I think about it.....but we'd have to build alot more jails....but I love it!........but yeah your right...the bleeding heart Libs would never stand for that......Personally I liked George Carlin's idea of putting all the criminals and f#cked up people in a huge fenced compound in....Nebraska or something....Minnesota?....oh lets just say Greenland or Iceland.....put em' there and let em' live free within the compound(huge area).....and then set cameras up all over it and let America watch true reality TV!!!!....it would be cool!....like watching the birth of a Mad Max society.....to actually watch how they would interact and police themselves?....how awesome would that be?......sorry...I got off on a rant there....

that idiot that broke into my house was lucky he didnt have a gun, or a knife, if he would have pulled something, i would have shot him right there. i dont take threats to my children or family very lightly, and since i had a newborn in my house at the time, i was going to make sure in every way she was safe. i will take any risk to my children head on and if that means armed response so be it.

Maine is luckily still really lax with gun laws. No registration required. Just a 10 minute wait for a background check for felonies. This includes pistols and assault rifles...

Concealed weapons permits are easy to get, and you STILL dont even have to register your firearm...

This is one of my state's few saving graces...

Its the same in florida . . . .

and rightly so!

Yea I am a vegetarian pacifist, I Wouldn't willingly kill ANYTHING . . . but you take guns away from people and you leave the criminal with all the power.

Its called rational thought, not every gun toting person need be pro war, pro hunting, murderous hate filled killers lol sigh.

personally I think I should be able to buy full auto ect.

My personal thoughts are if you want to lower the crime rate, you need to forget the weapon, and go after the ideas . . . ask why . . . what is causing people to get into a situation, or a mind set that perpetuates violence . . . these are not unfathomable questions, in fact if you get on a personal level, they are usually quite easy to explain . . . the problem . . . it takes time to understand . . . peoeple want quick and easy answers to long and difficult issues.

bottom line gun laws don't work to lower violence . . you have to work on the cause . . not the tool.

Very well said...
Maybe the problem is that we Americans WORSHIP guns.....take a look at 80 percent of movie's out there....they all have guns in them....and why is it that on the cover of any dvd movie that has guns in it,they gotta show em' on the front.....example:Lethal Weapon....theres Mel Gibson standing there holding his Beretta for no apparent reason other than to get you to rent the movie because we LOVE OUR GUNS!....do me a favour and try to make a mental note of this the next time you are in a video store....go look at how many dvd covers(jackets)have at least one person holding a gun on them....its an astonishing observation!....Now the fact that we worship guns AND they are EXTREMELY easy to buy and the youth have been polluted into thinking its "cool" to "pack heat", sell drugs and treat women like *****es.....hmmmm you couple that with bad parenting and poor education and what do you have?......CRIMINALS.....and worse yet...Criminals with guns!....do me a big favour and go check out the gun-crime rate and gun murders in the U.K.(thats England)and Canada. In UK they only allow hunting rifles(no handguns and no assault rifles and DEFINATLY no full auto)...and their gun crime rate is minimal at best.....In Canada their gun-crime rate is a little higher than UK....but their culture is more influenced by the U.S....in Canada you can have a handgun and some assault rifles but they require a special liscence to get them.....and you can pretty much only use them at a gun range...you definately can't carry them with you and if you are taking them out of your home(where you MUST have them locked in a gun safe and unloaded with the ammo in a different location)you must notify the police of where you are going with the restricted firearms (ie:the range)..the unrestricted firearms are hunting rifles and shotguns....there is also limits on mag capacities and you CANNOT hunt with an assault rifle or handgun unless approved by the govt.....now go and look up their gun-crime rates and then look up ours....its ASTONISHING!!!....now once again I will say that I am a proud owner of 5 (very nice)guns and I love to shoot, and I am not saying to take away our right to own them......but the issue is just SIMPLE MATH HERE FOLKS....and please don't answer this post with some story about some guys shooting the bad guys and "what if the good guys didn't have their guns" theory....because the "good guys" can still have their guns with what I am proposing....but maybe there would be LESS bad guys with them and it is a good place to start anyways......and I realize that it would be impossible to keep guns out of criminals hands entirely but if you force them to buy them "illegally" you are increasing the chance of them getting busted before they even get the chance to use them in the first place.....and then "borderline" and "wannabe" criminals might not have the proper connections and lose interest in getting one.......look into the gun-crime rates and come up with an intelligent response.

Crowded population and poverty effect crime according to my sociology book. So far most studies either state that the less gun control you have, the lower the crime rate. Others say it has no effect. So its a win/win situation statistically. Relax a bit on the gun laws. Unless, someone has been CONVICTED of a violent crime, or someone has a restraining order filed against them, let them buy what they want minus exlosives and other MASSIVE casualty producing weapons. Full auto, semi auto, etc. rifles should be allowed.

No permit required. That, like i said would be like requiring a permit to exercise your right to trial by jury, which, according to our forefathers, is a LITTLE less important than the 2nd amendment. The first, freedom of speech, being the most important. I'm sure we could prevent more crimes by having people search random houses, tap phonelines, etc., than we could by increasing gun control.

how many were accidental?

how many were committed with illegal weapons?

besides in 2207 they won't have guns. They'll have blasters

That is a lame argument, the point is that those that were accidental would be alive.

Than outlaw swimming pools, light sockets, cars, tobacco, unhealthy food, and put everybody on a manditory exercise program.

They all statistically cause more accidents than firearms...

Here is a better argument...

If all those starving people in Africa had weapons with which to drive off the scum that are causing them to starve... would they be dying of starvation?

When only aggressors have guns only aggressors make rules.
No there would probably be a lot more dead people.

Adolf Hitler favored your logic....

You can't preach freedom and gun control at the same time without being called a major hypocrit

25 people will dead tonight from a firearm.

and over a thousand will be dead tonight from eating too much McDonalds.... what does that tell you?

One is an essential liberty, the other is a luxury.

Why are you so quick to give up the essential liberties? I do suggest that if you are THAT unhappy about it, you should probably moving to England or some other country that doesnt believe in guns...

OK,, suicides, far more people slit their wrists, or overdose on pills, or decide to take a drive drunker than hell and wrap their car around a tree at 80 mph. if they want to go they are going to do themselves in no matter what happens. the 18000 that died due to murder at the end of a gun, how many of those were people that had not the first bit of buisness having a gun in their hand in the first place? taking away guns will only hurt the law abiding citizins. the crooks will find a way to get their hands on them no matter what. i was taught not to bring a knife to a gun fight, and i can defend my home with just a blade,, what happens when that someone decides to sneak in with a gun, i try to defend with a blade, and i die due to a crook having a gun but im not allowed to have one due to the laws? then something else to raise hell about. its a never ending cycle.

second amendment is for protection. The English tried to ban fire arms before the American revolution started to go full swing its because of the people that said no and held on to what they believed was their right that we have this country today, and its because of that, that we need to maintain our right to bare arms. Don't ever put oppression past your government you think were more civilized now than then I think were less. When my freedoms are being written off for "protection" in Washington I think I need to hold on to that right now more than ever.

When the second amendment was written there was no such thing as Uzi's and Hi-cap semi-auto pistols and fully auto rifles with 100rnd mags, silencers, night vision scopes and laser sights......just a thought
