hmmmm interesting...so if they work for MORE than minimum wage....how is it slave labor???? but maybe SOME employers pay that but for the most part...they pay less because it is "cheap labor" employers can get away with it because they will work for it and paid under the table. they pay less because citizens won't work for more than minimum wage????? no they do it because they pay less than minimum wage since they are illegal...they don't have the right sof citizens but they choose to risk their lives to come here anyway The illegals who used to wait on the corner here in town for the employers to come and pick them up for labor jobs got paid 10 dollars an hour. It doesn't happen there anymore but that is what they got paid, minimum wage is less then that. The employers come out ahead by paying them, they do not have to pay taxes on the employees and no benes, no workmans comp insurance, no other insurances that employers have to pay to have a place of employment. This is the problem, they hire them so they come here for the work. then that is there...not here. there are still illegals that hang out at places here for employers to come. they keep moving because they keep getting busted. they keep busting employers paying less than minimum wage here. and of course the employers don't pay insurance, benefits, work comp etc....why should they. i completely agree and have been saying all along that there should be tougher laws on employers...but illegals choose to come here...and it's not only for jobs What else do they come here for? They cannot get welfare or any kind of public benefits. If they only come here for medical attention then why stay if they cannot find work? |

Dragoness,
Welfare is controlled on the State level. I'm sure you haven't worked for every state welfare agency. The laws Tom Tancredo helped establish in Colo. are not practiced in all 50 states. Illegal immigration cost the State of NC $999 million last year. You are like a broken record that no one is buying... ![]() |

![]() I don't know if you know about this, Rob. My father told me he read it in the paper. St. Louis has allowed some kind of contract to hire people from Mexico to come here this spring and summer to perform yardwork. When the season is over, they are to go back to Mexico. I didn't realize that we had a shortage of people that wanted to work. The going rate for lawncutters around me is $25.00 per lawn. |

My friend that came here illegally came here to work to send money to his elderly parents because they have no retirement funds there. Sometimes he works he three jobs and sleeps very little. |

So to use the generalization is to hatemonger and we should not do that. |

Tancredo didn't do **** here for the control of illegals receiving benefits, we already had the laws on the books and we were implementing them before he ever showed up on the scene. Funny how political leaders can get credit for doing nothing huh? |

So to use the generalization is to hatemonger and we should not do that. It is more complicated then that but I will concede they are illegally here and we need to stop employing them so they will have no way to make it here. |

In 1976, while teaching history at Drake Junior High School in Denver, he ran for and won a seat in the Colorado House of Representatives. He served two terms (1977–1981) and was one of the leaders of a vocal group of conservative legislators opposing the policies of Colorado Governor **** Lamm. During the 1970s, Tancredo pioneered opposition to bilingual education, an issue that would remain a feature of his political orientation.

Just don't pass around inaccurate information and discuss "them" like humans that deserve respect and I will have no issues with the whole discussion. I don't appreciate hatemongering at all

Tancredo was appointed by the President (Reagan) to be the regional representative in Denver for the Department of Education. He stayed on from 1981 until 1992, through the first Bush administration, and pared the office's staff from 225 to only 60 employees. In 1993, he became president of the Independence Institute, a conservative think tank based in Golden, Colorado, serving there until his election to Congress. He was also a leader in the Colorado term limits movement.
Id say hes not ignorant about education ![]() |
