sorry...just getting here. welfare is to only help people...not for them to live on. the laws need to be changed in each state to keep people from laying around collecting welfare. it should be used only long enough to pick them back up so they can keep going on their own

dragoness...aren't you the one that insisted illegals don't get any welfare????? didn't you just get proved wrong??? sorry i noticed you didn't respond to that

I did not get proved wrong. I did not see any proof from a government site that illegals get welfare. There is no such proof only propaganda sites spew those lies.

I have argued in anoher thread before that welfare should be reconfigured. it is there to help people not support people. welfare is not a job. but the difference is legal vs illegal. it's hard enough trying to support dead beats without adding illegals to try to support as well. welfare needs to change how it is handled.
How about jsut eliminate it altogether? Social programs have no place in this country. Even today there is a way to make a living with your sweat of you truly have a drive to do so. Our Implementing social programs have now fostered decase after decade of addicted recipients. Theses programs have made things worse, not better.

Hopefully none of the anti welfare and social programs people on here ever have a life event that causes them to need to ask for help.noway huh It is not even funny to watch the minds of those who have never had a catastrophic event in their lives and needed the help they paid into work to hate and unhumanize those who have needed the help.noway huh

I hope none of you see the day, I really do.bigsmile
Lady I have lived on my own since I was 16. I lived in a tent by the river outside of flat river, missouri, and rode a bike to work 100 hours a week at a place called Dix Greenhouse in Bonne Terre, Mo. My wage was a farm wage of 3.85 an hour with no o.t. I didn't cry, whine, or steal, I did what was right and made my own way. As an adult I have been laid off from a very good job, and got two fulltime jobs to make up for the wages that I lost. I moved on, and clawed my way to the top. Do not attempt to preach to me about crisis, I have lived it, and never once took a hand out. A real man, or woman will make whatever scarafices need to be made when the crap hits the fan. Stealing from one person to give to another in a pretense of help does not make it justified

Man, thank the powers that be you were healthy and able to work. Of course to listen to some people, it was your own dam fault you were layed off, etc...

those that abuse will pay one way or another...whether they are caught by the state, karma, whatever

but if we were given an option if we wanted to pay taxes into it....i still would. there are people that need help at times. maybe they had a spouse die...tons of medical bills, funeral costs, etc that were struggling to begin with. they may need help to get back on their feet and i have no problem helping people like that. i would pay into it in case i ever needed it.

ooooo again with the propaganda because it doesn't fit your argument dragon???? the states decide how welfare is taken care of.

I think in some cases it's acceptable. I don't mind helping out people who need a hand due to special circumstances, but things are way out of control right now.

I could improve my situation so much if I just went out & got pregnant! I'd pay no taxes, get food stamps, free medical care including dental, grants to weatherize my home, energy assistance, & WIC. I know a couple with 3 kids & they have so much more than I do! They won't use birth control, & they get more benifits for each child they have.

But what they recieve is still not enough to support a child on. They are still living in poverty.

They have a boat, 2 cars , a motercycle, a snowmobile, eat out more than I do, smoke...

They have far more than I do!

Oh, Hen, then they're getting money from some place else too.
I have known people on welfare that don't have enough money to feed their kids.

A boat, 2 cars, etc. - they have to be getting more money on the side from someplace else. That is, unless they had their toys before they starting receiving welfare.

A person can't get welfare with all of those resources at their disposal so that is not accurate.

Well I pay taxes and I don't mind helping my fellow man out. It's the kids who really suffer. When I was young and had no kids living with me,I clawed my way back up from homelessness .Due to the ecomnomy and the high price of gas and food, many working class people are seeking food stamps etc.I myself have a housing subsidy due to the high rents in my area.I can't afford over 1000 dollars a month rent, sorry if that makes me a low life leech.Nobody I know who is on welfare owns boats and ****.Most don't have cars or TV.Just because some abuse the system, let's not stereotype the rest.

I like what I see in the mirror, I am a caring person who knows that others struggles are different from mine. I cannot judge them harshly for their life struggles. I do not walk in their shoes so I cannot judge. I worked for the welfare department for years and I know that most of the people who came through the door needed a help up, they did not want to sit around on welfare as portrayed here. I also know that illegals can't get nothing from the welfare, no foodstamps, no medical, no welfare. Even when they have the socalled anchor babies they their income counts to the foodstamps and usually they are not eligible for that assistance either. I speak from that which I know, not that which I am guessing or assuming.
