It is true that guns do not kill people people kill people but I am an advocate of controlling who can get a gun. I already know the current control does not work as it should but there are too many people who feel powerless in this country and to hand a powerless person a gun is asking for trouble.

I have seen too many use a gun as intimidation, too many parents who do not watch their weapons well enough, too many people who want to go postal on folks, too many people who road rage and use the gun as a form of raging, etc...... In a "perfect" world guns would be used properly, protected properly and utilized for what they should be used for, but like I have been told on many many occasions, it is not a perfect world.

protect us from ourselves, we're not sensible or responsible enough!! imo, things like that only breed more problems.

i think there should be mandatory gun safety in schools

Even with taught gun handling and shooting, people's mental stability is questionable sometimes. I have had a man use a gun as a way of trying to control me, he is not right but he had his gun legally. He should not be able to do that to another person ever again but I cannot stop him and he will use it again against someone else, he enjoys it. Now if I would have had a gun, it would have been like the OK corral, who would have came out on top? Who knows but the situation would not have got better so what is the answer? I don't know.

I would like for all to be able to have a gun and use it for the purposes it is meant for but I know that will not happen so then what?

those with diagnosed mental illness are not permitted to own a gun

nor are those convicted of a felony

then we continue with our downward spiral. i don't see how further regulation/criminalization will help but i do believe it'll breed more ignorance about them.

nor are those convicted of a felony

Diagnosed is the key word here. Many mentally ill people are walking around with no knowledge they are ill. Legal to own a gun because they are under the radar.

Like I said who has all the answers here? I know I do not. But I also know that guns in the wrong hands are very deadly.

if more people had them(assuming responsible people), these situations wouldn't last long

but till it is confronted properly there is nothing to be done they need to be reported and charges pressed if not done then nothing can be done not giving up my right for a false sense of security

well, it would be irresponsible to have a gun and not be able to hit what you're aiming at. wouldn't it?

i've been shooting since i was 5, nearly 20 years. i tend to hit things i'm aiming at

if gun safty was taught in school (like safe sex)

maybe it would reduce the issue slightly

This is my choice for the biggest threat not addressed by america. We have a gun problem...with everyone popping off so easy and quickly as well as public shooting sprees...are any of us safe anymore? Do we all have to pack? What the hell is going on in this country? Do we have a people behavioral problem as well? wether you live on the streets or you live in the hills this is a problem. Spill it America.

Gun's don't kill people, irresponsible junkie's/drug dealers/cartel members/gang bangers/drunk redneck's/police kill people...

Problem with liberals on the gun topics is the same as liberals on every topic. The like to offer up everything that is wrong, and never offer a legitimate, reasonable solution. They also have terrible tales of woes to offer up along with their opinion

if they would legalize and regulate the drugs then that may reduce some of the gun issues then (sounds logical to me)
