I love my new AK-47. I can't carry that one so I have one in my boot like a visa in my wallet. Never leave home without it.

Easy Rob.. I was not trying to call you a fanatic or much of anything at all...

There is certainly the fanatic element on both sides of this discussion though. That was what I was referring to.. Not you specifically. Please except my apologies for not making that clear.

All I am trying to say is that: the Constitution and Bill of Rights are often over simplified or over complicated by the people, the courts and lawyers.

There have been many cases that have been heard over time that have involved many great minds, much more skilled then you and I in Constitutional law, disputing the wording of the Constitution.
We are not Constitutional Lawyers.

Yes.. Of course you seem to hold the phrase
'Happiness is a warm gun' much closer to your heart then I do, but...

In so far as the intent of the forefathers? Especially when they use the term 'Well Regulated Militia'? Why is the word 'regulated' in there? To regulate is to govern.
Compounded with the well known fact that the average citizens of our Country back then was not treated as a citizen... Could not vote, due to lack of money and/or education... The Constitution could be construed to only include the elite of the day.. Not the working class or poor. The working class and poor made excellent cannon fodder though. Not all that much different from the overall philosophy of today.

Back then.. There was no such thing as a cheap firearm either. Mass production was not up to the task. So... the majority of the population could not afford to arm itself anyway. Gun control was built in to the system, by the available technology.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Even if all the laws were immediately deemed unconstitutional... Many of you guys are talking about making gun education mandatory.. Which would be a gun law... Therefore unconstitutional.
We can't have our cake and eat it too.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

In so far as Rambills 'apples to stop signs' comment.

Sure..there is a difference technologically between a rocket and a small arm... There are some similarities too. Both are designed to kill. Both have triggers... Both took a decision by someone to aim and fire.
In the case of friendly fire... Whether it be an M16 or an air to ground missile, both can be aimed at and take out your brother in arms. Simply because someone acted on information that was not of reality. The outcome is the same.
To think that you are above making the same sort of mistake? Is to think that you are better then human. Anyone who believes they are better then human and well armed? Probably shouldn't be.

Hmmmm....

Still lots of paranoia.

Why do all you card carrying gun toters feel the need to have a gun? Are you paranoid? Do you just want a gun because the second amendment says you can? What about unarmed sef defense training, crisis intervention, descalation techniques, instincts? Geesh. grumble Safety is 99% attitude, knowledge, and defense.

It seems sorta wimpy to me. I was regularly out in known drug areas with people known to be violent and I never thought about getting a gun. Why should I? I wasn't scared. Now I meet with murderers, rapists, child molestors, drug addicts, you name it. I'm not feeling scared there either. There is no glass. We are alone in a room together, no cuffs.

So why is it, people? What are you scared of?

Considering postulation is an accepted bases of discussion here for a few of us....

Assuming that fear is a factor. I'd say from experience... One of the predominate reasons I chose to carry as a boy and young man was fear of the unknown. Also a sense of power and control. However false it turned out to be for me.

Along the way in life... It turned out that my affinity for weapons did not serve me near as well as my ability to think and act according to the given situation... Which in every case, did not need the benefit of having the use of deadly force available to me. Even though... The potential for deadly force was available to others.

As you lilith and others close to me already know.. I too have worked and sometimes continue to work with the criminally minded, addicted and otherwise desperate under currents of society. Sometimes in a controlled environment..but more often in their element and all that it entails. Approaching it armed beyond my physical capabillity and mental capacity? Serves no real purpose other then to make me believe I am in more control than I really am.

we dont have a gun problem, we have a criminal element problem fostered by a lenient criminal justice system that favors the criminal over the victim. Do not be confused here. Yes, it should be mandatory for the head of every household to be armed when out in public 24/7

I couldn't agree more - I think gunslinger law should be nationwide. It would save us all a lot of grief.

So, let me get this straight. The pro-gun people don't want laws that restrict their gun use.. but they're ok with laws making it mandatory to carry a gun? I guess it comes down to what's in their favor.

I dont carry a weapon everywhere or any where I go except when I hunt..........so to say I am scared is putting words in my mouth.........

I do have the right to carry if I choose to....simple as that ...so no need to accuse all people of being overly paranoid or gun crazed.

I do have a CC permit.....but do not carry. You may not like guns or agree with them and that is your right....but dont ya think you should not infringe upon my rights if I dont infringe upon yours. Part of our inherent rights are to have our own thoughts and beliefs....a freedom to be enjoyed by all US citizens, except those with a criminal back ground.....should lose rights to own,carry or be around a weapon

To me, she was talking more about the people who are so adamant about having to carry their guns everywhere. And just wanting to know why they felt the need to carry their guns at all times. Seems like a fair question to ask.

Wow.... it would seem to me my questions were taken as accusations. 'Wimpy' was the only acusation I made, guys. All the others were simply ruminations. And clearly stated ones, I might add.

Ones you are way over defensive about. Which speaks louder than you know.

I was not upset with liliths comments or questions.....she does have some valid points........I enjoyed her comments

I was merely stating my own rights and beliefs......and asking not to be catagorized as paranoid or scared if I choose to carry a weapon.

Where in the 2nd amendment, do you read that?
The well regulated militia part?

This is an honest question. Completely devoid of ill intent.

Relax... Taking everything that is written... personally? Is very unbecoming.

I talked about my feelings. not yours. If you choose to take my feelings as to why I chose to carry as an insult to you? It makes me think that somehow i've inadvertantly managed to strike a nerve.

History of what? How does history relate to what lilith wrote?

I fail to see the connection.
