computer woes :(

My computer recently began refusing to start up. Tried changing the power supply-no worky.(doesn't even start) So, I took the hard drive out and put it into an external casing and plugged it into the USB of another computer in hopes of being able to use my old data and back it up. It lights up and hums, but does not show up in My Computer. WTF is going on here? I'm going to try the freezer trick. (freeze the drive in a waterproof bag overnight) I'd appreciate any advice you have, though.

So, an individual can petition for this on behalf of his/her state? I had no idea. It would seem more sensible to require a minimum number of signatures before the petition could be submitted. But what the heck, if they want to do it that way I suppose it doesn't matter. odd huh? and IM sure its no more about race than the first attempted secession was about slavery,,, but Im sure I shouldnt say such things,, one mans election causing such a DRASTIC reaction couldnt possibly be that simple,,,,right? The CSA did not secede over slavery. There were slaves in the North at the time the Civil war started, and Lincoln's purpose in the war was to prevent Southern independence rather than slave emancipation. Lincoln himself said "My paramount object in this struggle is to save the Union, and is not either to save or to destroy slavery. If I could save the Union without freeing any slave I would do it, and if I could save it by freeing all the slaves I would do it; and if I could save it by freeing some and leaving others alone I would also do that. What I do about slavery, and the colored race, I do because I believe it helps to save the Union; and what I forbear, I forbear because I do not believe it would help to save the Union. I shall do less whenever I shall believe what I am doing hurts the cause, and I shall do more whenever I shall believe doing more will help the cause." |

That's killer, good for you, you will keep building endurance, and once you are not feeling under the weather get back to work, the more you do each day the more your body adjusts. I've been working out and each day I am a little more capable than the last workout, and I'm not doing tons, I do what my body can handle. Bt I notice I am able to walk a little farther or do a few more minutes than last time. Good luck, keep it up. Yeah When I first started i could barley walk 100 feet with out being out of breath. Thanks to my swimming and walking and changing my eating habits, I walked half a mile on the 27th. I usually swim at least 45 minutes to an hour 4-5 days a week. Every little bit helps. One day at a time one step at a time. Glad to see you're doing cardio, btw. Exercise that gets your heart rate up is almost guaranteed to help you. As soon as you're able, try some resistance training. Building extra muscle will help you burn fat during periods of rest and allow your joints to work better. :) If you ever have trouble walking for some reason (maybe just a bad day), try an elliptical machine. They're easier on your joints. I use one to warm up/cool down sometimes. :) |

Glad to hear things are coming along well. :) Keep it up! My current trainer used to weigh more than twice what he does now. He lost it with diet and exercise and support/coaching-I'm confident you can do it too! :)

He was called a communist, a socialist, a Muslim, an anti American, was not born in America, all was said by racists, the hamstringing attempts only wasted time and divided the country. And he won!!, with all the ugly attempts to derail everything he attempted to do, and still he won. But the best thing out of all this is the crow thats on the face of all those who had nothing to do but spew nonsence and racist innuendo disguised as patroitism. Now ill enjoy their silence as they dwell in misery. Now that is the best part of all. I didn't vote for any official candidate. I am rather glad that Obamney won in this case, however. The evil one knows is better than the evil one doesn't. May the GOP die a horrible death for not nominating Ron Paul. |

Hello, any metal musicians?
|

I play some neo-romantic metal ("romantic" in the 19th century sense), sometimes called "neo-classical" metal in the tradition of Yngwie, Blackmore, etc. You can get ideas for lyrics from novels and books of poetry. I especially like classic literature and mythology and ancient religious texts.

Would science be a lot happier if they could say there was no such thing as consciousness?
Can you be sure if something is conscious our not? What is consciousness? How can you measure it? ~~~~~~ An excellent question! This really strikes to the heart of what science is. Science, by its nature, assumes observation is reliable. However, it has long been known that this isn't the case. Hence, science commits the logical fallacy of asserting the consequent. (inductive reasoning) It's a quandry philosophers of science have struggled with forever. |

Hmm ... here we have Exodus: 2 “I am the LORD your God, who brought you out of Egypt, out of the land of slavery. Does this mean he's JUST the God of those he brought out of Egypt? 3 “You shall have no other gods before[a] me. Could this be interpreted as there are, indeed, other Gods, but He demands that just these people should only worship the one who saved them? These are interesting tidbits of Jewish history. In the ancient near East, the jewish people believed in many gods-there was no one monolithic thing called "Judaism". The commandment you mentioned is there because Yahweh (distinct from Elohim) demanded loyalty from his people. |

Dying without a relationship

I'll throw my 2 cents in FWIW.
In my experience, if you aren't at a point where you are happy with yourself, trying to get into a relationship won't help (and will most likely be counterproductive). When you are happy with yourself and your life, then you can go about finding someone to share your happiness with. Another thing-don't get into a relationship in hopes that they will make you happy. Get into it for the joy of making the other person happy. :) ETA: You may find inspiration in the work of St. Augustine-especially his writing on love. |
