I'm orignally from the South, but lived most of my life between the East Coast and Europe. I moved out to Cali in 2005, and I'm never leaving.
Yes, it is very expensive, but with weather, natural beauty and beautiful people, there's a reason people want to move here. It's an amazing place. The reality about the people is that they're actually much more accomodating and friendly than people on the East Coast. Out there, we are bred to survive, and we have an edge. I like that edge, but in So Cal, you can balance that survival with actually enjoying life. Again, with a price tag attached to it. The diversity here is incredible, and contrary to the media reports, the are very few if any real conflicts along ethnic lines. Those that do occur typically happen between people who should never have been bred in the first place, therefore, I don't care. My opinion is that Southern Cali brings out the true "you". If you're bred to be succesful, you will be. If you're not, you won't. There are NO handouts in LA. You want it, you gotta go get it. This is not a place for people who are afraid to work hard or more importantly, work smart, and hustle to make a living. Cali is no different from NYC from the standpoint that if you're not a go getter, you're not going to be able to enjoy the area. Usually those people end up disenfranchised and 'hate' the place. Ironically, I'd wager if they won the Super Lotto, they'd all of a sudden fall in love with it again. In all, it's not for everyone. But I can tell you from my experience, there's no more beautiful, horrible, gorgeous, ugly, perfectly flawed place in the US. |

Dude... what the hell?
As one of about 12 black people active in the forums, let me be the one to state that bringing this up as a political issue is a) Bad politics b) Bad for the country c) Bad for us individually. McCain was certainly not the only person to vote against the holiday. In fact, it wasn't until 2000 that all 50 states recognized the day as a holiday. That doesn't mean that McCain or the people who don't support it don't like black people. They just don't agree with it being a national holiday. As an American, no matter how much I may disagree with that position, the best part about this country is that we are FREE to disagree without violence. That being said, it is what it is. Furthermore, McCain has - in the years after the 1983 vote - reversed his decision, and even supported attempts to get the holiday recognized in his home state. Whether this was sincere, or politics, I don't know. I guess the cynical point of view would be to assume it was simply to avoid heat. Personally, I'm tired of cynicism. I'd like to believe that the man was locked in a cage during the civil rights struggle, didn't understand the significance, and made a judgement based on some other criteria other than racism, then maybe saw that it was a bigger deal than he realized, and learned. Who knows? Bottom line is, I'm not going to cast (or not cast) a vote for President based on him voting for or against a national holiday. It's ridiculous. As I look at the body of McCain's work, I can tell you that I don't think he's a racist. I think the word 'racist' is thrown out there waaay too much, and it's unfortunate. Many retarded comments (like a few uneducated opinions in this post) are not made from a hatred of minorites. They're made from a position of ignorance, and a general disenchantment and disillusionment of their personal positions. Well, I feel as sorry for them as they would for me. I'm 34, educated, well compensated for my work, and am generally isolated from the issues that MLK fought for. I do appreciate what the man did, and I hold him in high regard for it. But if people choose not to recognize it, I don't care. He simply fought for the right of all Americans (not just blacks) to be able to share in the American dream. That has been realized to a large extent, and ANY American who doesn't take advantage of it (white, black, female, male, hispanic) I could give two ****s about. Bottom line is, if you want it, go get it. With THAT, said, I would suggest anyone using MLK, blacks, hispanics or any other racially divisive issue to promote a candidate, take a hard look at what's happening in this country. Progress is inevitable. You can't stop it. We're all here, no one's going anywhere, and we're all gonna just have to learn to deal with it. If I don't vote for McCain, it's not because Obama's black. It would be because I feel he represents the best opportunity to reverse the direction that the Bush administration set us on, which you'd have to be close to moronic to support. |

Oh stop with the race baiting... Is it any better than the people Obama holds up as heros? His past afiliations are VERY questionable...to say the least. He never fought in a war & never had to deal with being a POW either. McCain has...so let's not go there. Reality check.... Michael Milken. The Junk Bond king... |

Who Cares? McCain has about as much chance of winning in November as Nader. As longs as no R Kelly videotapes of Obama surface between now and then, it aint happening. W did a great job of exposing the republican party as the sham that it is.

My personal favorite: From Wikipedia: "Wifey's World is a notable pornographic website, founded in 1998 and maintained by an American couple.[1] The couple are high school sweethearts who were born circa 1965[2] and married circa 1986.[3] The business started when "Hubby" posted some polaroids of "Wifey" on the Usenet newsgroups in 1997[1] with her eyes hidden.[4] Surprised by the favorable response, the couple continued to post steadily more explicit images. By fall of 1997, they were doing "brisk" mail-order business of their home videos. In the fall of 1998, they launched the website.[1]" |

Depends on which definition you seek:
1) Traditional Urban street slang - Lyrics from "wifey" by Next: 'You never try me Always stood right by me Make living lively Highly spoken of My only love The only one, you're my wifey Make my life complete, sweet But you know when to flip it street Freak, but only when it comes to me See that's why you're my wifey You know you're sexy too I like your attitude I ain't even mad at you Girl, you're still my boo Either braids or weave, Skirt or jeans you're still my queen Baby-girl go do your thing I'm so glad you're on my team' |

It must be Einstein cuz I never heard of the other guy Are you serious too! Yes - how is it that you all know about this guy? I didn't think physicists were big news. Why is he famous? Stephen Hawking wrote a very popular (as far as science can be popular) book called "A Brief History of Time." He later followed that up with "A Briefer History of Time." I highly recommend both. He has also appeared on the Simpsons; Homer once referred to him as "Larry Flynt." I took 5 minutes of physics in college and ran screaming. I was more of a biology and literature person. Are these books about physics or is it something regular idiots can enjoy? I know who Larry Flynt is. And Homer Simpson. I can email you my senior year thesis on the behavior of evolutionary algorhitms |
