hhhhmmmmmm

i think that post was more discriminatory than any post that mandy posted for the simple fact you do not even realize it

and this is nothing against any person but most do these things without relizing it

i wasn't trying to be discriminatory just being real....that's what goes on in the south and the subject was about mlk who came out of atlanta...we have a huge memorial of him here....everything is about racism down here and i don't see it ever changing

I opine that since Mandy lives in the South that she is far more qualified to speak on this subject than anyone else on this post. Not saying no one else has a right to their opinion (which I sometimes get the feeling), but Mandy certainly lives right smack in the face terrority of where MLK's beginnings come from.

i think people need to make a trip down here and see before they start calling me racist

Mirror - So what is your point other than to incite racial bashing and hatred between white citizens and black citizens of the USA?

WHAT did you set out to accomplish with this thread? What is your MOTIVE? WELL????

I was against MLK day, all I could rember about him is his one speech and the phrase "I Have a Dream" (well so do other people have dreams of peace and equality), and the fact that he was an adulterer. So, shall the bashing against me begin now?????????????????????????????????

OH, and let us NOT forget my IRISH heritage, the good old "IRISH NEED NOT APPLY" hatred against MY IRISH family.

One, two, three, everyone start bashing Lindyy!

THANK YOU...that was my point...the man didn't DO anything...he just had a good speach and a good idea but people take mlk's idea back to the civil war and i don't see anyone recognizing the irish slaves that were in that war....do we have a irish civil rights days...no

first of all i don't have racial hatred toward blacks....i have a hatred for people who think the world owe them something because of their race...that is a major problem in the south and if you ask any white person down here they will tell you the same thing...there is more reverse racism then anything here and that isn't identifying with what mlk stood for...i do agree he was a great man for what he believed in but we don't have that in our country...maybe it would be different if he was still alive but alot of people want that holiday for the wrong reasons and are agree at mccain for the wrong reasons about it....mlk planted an idea but that's it...it isn't enough to make a damn holiday for it but for the simple fact that he was black they want a day just for him...that was my point

Sweet molasses!!! where and how to respond??

I think we are all entitled to our own opinions (good start)

i have a hatred for people who think the world owe them something because of their race...that is a major problem in the south and if you ask any white person down here they will tell you the same thing

Hatred is such a negative energy/emotion to carry around regardless of the reason. (JMO)now to continue and say ask any white person is soo wrongggggggggg in my eyes, sounds so bigotted and such an assumption.. that I remain amazed...

granted everyone has the right to feel anywhich way they so feel - but to try and take others down with you is cowardly (in my eyes/JMO)

i didn't take anyone down with me and voicing my opinion and the reality of the south isn't cowardly....sitting back and not saying anything is

i'm sorry but no alot of african-americans don't IDENTIFY with mlk....they just have to find as many black people as possible to put on a pedistal to feel like they aren't being taken over by the white man and the government isn't gonna risk more lawsuites on that so they give them what they want....they don't identify with him because most of the black people especially here in the south are more raciest against white then we've ever been against them....they use the defacs system for everything they can because they think we owe them something for our ancesters having slaves during the civil war...hell half of them can't even name their relatives that were slaves but they're so quick to use them as an excuse to have 10 kids and sit on their ass and milk the system for all it's worth while the rest of america has to work their ass off to pay for it....mlk didn't stand for that...he wanted equal rights, how do we have equal rights if only minorities get federal aid for living assistance and medical and don't tell me it doesn't work that way because i've been there and seen that first hand....i've been a single mother since i was 17 and had to work 2 jobs most of the time because the only assistance i could get was $60 a month in food stamps but i've seen people that were black or had mixed babies that got everything defacs has to offer and yet they ride around in brand new cars wearing name brand clothes...so yes it's all about racial issues and it will always be a big deal to the black community when a white man wants to get rid of a holiday about a black man.

I'm sorry about your hardships, but hatred toward African-Americans won't help you.

I don't doubt there are some that might exploit the system, but not all of them do.

Heck, there are Caucasians that exploit the system, too, and you could say the exact same things about them.

When you make blanket statements like that, it feeds into racial stereotypes.

By painting African-Americans with the same broad brush, some people might think that they are all that way, so it mischaracterizes those that aren't.

No wonder they think a lot of us are racist.embarassed

Oh stop with the race baiting...

Is it any better than the people Obama holds up as heros? His past afiliations are VERY questionable...to say the least.

He never fought in a war & never had to deal with being a POW either. McCain has...so let's not go there.

Reality check....
huh So its okay to be against MLK if your a veteran??huh I dont see the connectionhuh

flowerforyou I assure youflowerforyou

flowerforyou This is a big deal flowerforyou

it's only a big deal because mlk is back...if he was white then nobody would care if he didn't have a holiday named after him...i don't see why anyone needs their birthday as a national holiday...when someone finds a cure for cancer or aids or figures out how to stop global warming or we actually get a president who feeds our starving people before other countries then maybe they deserve their own holiday

Arctic sea ice could break apart completely at the North Pole this year, allowing ships to sail over the normally frozen top of the world.

The potential landmark thaw - the first time in human history the pole would be ice-free - is a stark sign of global warming, according to an article Friday on the web site of the The Independent, a London newspaper.

"Symbolically it is hugely important," said Mark Serreze of the U.S. National Snow and Ice Data Center in Colorado. "There is supposed to be ice at the North Pole, not open water."

Last year, the fabled Northwest Passage opened as Arctic ice retreated more than ever before.

There is no land at the North Pole, but as long as anyone has looked, it has remained a giant block of ice year-round. Scientists have been watching Arctic sea ice melt more and more each year. But each summer in recent years, the amount of ice has gotten thinner and thinner. Each winter's freeze, therefore, results in a thinner pack that, this summer, could melt altogether.

"The issue is that, for the first time that I am aware of, the North Pole is covered with extensive first-year ice," Serreze is quoted by The Independent. "I'd say it's even-odds whether the North Pole melts out."

Russia and other countries, meanwhile, have been arguing over who has rights to the region's resources, including potential oil reserves.

Several studies in recent years have predicted that the North Pole could be ice-free within a few decades. Alarm has ratcheted up every summer as the ice gets thinner and thinner. In a study released June 10, scientist said the rapid meltoff in the Arctic could threaten permafrost in continental soil elsewhere above the Arctic circle in a warm version of the snowball effect.

Last summer saw a record melt of Arctic sea ice, which shrank to more than 30 percent below its average. Around the peak of the melt, in September, air temperatures over land in the western Arctic from August to October were more than 4 degrees Fahrenheit (2 degrees Celsius) above the 1978-2006 average.

"The rapid loss of sea ice can trigger widespread changes that would be felt across the region," said Andrew Slater, also of the National Snow and Ice Data Center.
