Welcome. I do know of a few people from England on this site but not sure how many are from the Swindon area. You will need to complete your profile and search for people close to you. I would also suggest looking at clubs through your local community centres. That is how we do it in Canada but I have never been to England so i don't know what groups are available.

If you are looking to meet folks in general, than please visit the community forums, engage in topics and have some fun.

Good luck and welcome.

Bear's head stuck in jar for two weeks: tale of a rescue effort

A bear in northern Ontario has lodged its head inside a jar, threatening its survival because it cannot eat or drink.

Area resident Rob Paterson says a young black bear with a large plastic jar stuck on its head was wandering around before noon Tuesday in Amethyst Harbour, east of Thunder Bay. The animal wandered onto his porch, where he snapped a picture.

Paterson’s first reaction was to try and help the animal, but he can tell the jar is “jammed right on.”

“There’s no way to get that off without anesthetizing the animal, and cutting it off,” Paterson says.

“That’s the frustration, because when you first see it you want to go and rip it off his head but you can’t do that.”

He says the animal appears to be foraging for food, and he believes it can still walk and see normally.

Ontario’s Ministry of Natural Resources and the OPP have been trying to subdue the bear for the last two days, said Jolanta Kowalski, media spokesperson with the ministry.

They are attempting to hit the bear with a dart containing tranquilizer.

A radio transmitter is attached to the dart so officials can track the animal after it is hit. It can take up to eight minutes for the tranquilizer to take effect — plenty of time for the bear to run away, Kowalski said.

A bear trap has also been set up on nearby Lambert Island.

Ministry workers estimate the jar could have been on the bear’s head for as long as two weeks.

In July 2008, officials in Minnesota were forced to shoot and kill a bear with a jar stuck on its head for six days.

Kowalski said the ministry is hoping this bear avoids the same fate.

“We’ll do what we can to get this thing off of its head and hopefully it will end well,” Kowalski said.

While residents are aware of the potential danger to people in the area, their true concern is for the bear.

Paterson said the animal’s plight is a lesson for people visiting and living in the area.

“It’s a sad example of what happens when we don’t discard our recyclables. These animals don’t have to be in this distress,” Paterson said.

Hello Jayne, Mary and Tim. I just logged on before heading off to bed and thought I come on in and see how everything is going. Just finished watching Hell's Kitchen and going for a walk.

Tim, I read about the crap going on in your 'hood. I am so grateful my area is not a problem zone and have no fear walking about. Hope something can be done with it. I imagine "Taking back the night" campaigns may not work in you area. They are not usually sustainable and the police need to be informed and on board which is near impossible.

Best wishes everyone.
Hi Chris. Goodnight Chrisflowerforyou

Good night and bless you all. This room is awesome and hope to join in again when I have more time.

I've always been an incurable romantic and being a writer, I use the spoken and written with any gift, gesture or date. Usually something short and humorous, however, it has never resulted in a lasting relationship but has provided me with very intense, rewarding friendships. And when a friend and I go out together, I still treat it as if it were a date to the point friends come to expect the unexpected when we go out.

This is the way it works out. I am not complaining because I am still having fun.

Hell's Kitchen.
Did you watch tonight's two episodes? I can't imagine any one of them being the head chef at the Savoy in London, leading 42 other chefs? Not a leader in the bunch.

The President has to work with others in GOVERNMENT to affect change,, he is not going to singlehandedly do much of anything....

I dont see the eminent doom in anything that has happened in the past two years,, personally,,,

But the use of fear to win elections has been a successful strategy of right wing politics in western democracies, including Canada. Make us fear something that is really not all that scary and have Fox News, the network of fear, constantly barrage us with negative messages and lots of cleavage. I was amazed to learn how many people actually believe the rhetoric that Fox promotes.

I will resort to another quote here because I really love quotes but I think that John Adams would be sad to learn he was wrong when he said:

"Fear is the foundation of most governments; but it is so sordid and brutal a passion, and renders men in whose breasts it predominates so stupid and miserable, that Americans will not be likely to approve of any political institution which is founded on it."

MSNBC does the exact same thing from the left wing perspective. The idea that winning elections based on fear being only a right wing thing is preposterous.

Point taken and thank-you for pointing that out. You are right, the left uses it too and I did not say it was solely a right wing phenomenon, I said they use it more successfully. I see now how I made it look like only a right wing strategy. I also agree that MSNBC is the same as Fox but since I study American, British and Canadian politics I have seen the use of fear more predominately from the right, especially here in Canada.

democrats, rebublicans, ... whats going to change no matter who's in?

True and as long as Clinton democrats have power within the Obama administration, it will be more of the same. Or Bu$h's third term as referenced in an article today titled:
Triangulation or Strangulation? Does Obama + Clintonistas = Bush III?
