if you use protection you dont need to worry about your health. its your body, your health, so the decison is down to you.

That's a foolish statement... condoms don't protect you from HPV, and anyone who receives/gives oral is at risk for catching anything and everything.

we can only tell people to be safe by using a condom. yes your at risk of getting worts, herpes etc, but what more can anyone do!!!!!!!!!!!!! so its not a foolish statement, its the only way we can protect ourself as much as we can.

I was simply stating it's foolish to say you don't have to worry about your health if you use protection. You should always be concerned with your health.

but im saying, we can only protect ourself as much as we possibly can. but i would be more concerned for my health if i didnt use protection. basically there is no more we can do than using condoms, unless a miracle occurs and we cant catch ANYTHING.

By all means, do whatever you want with your own life, but don't cause others to go happily screwing everything just because they have a condom. There are always risks, if there weren't, there wouldn't be diseases!

DISEASES CAN BE CAUGHT WITH OR WITHOUT A CONDOM, condoms just REDUCE the risk.

Condoms do protect against HPV, if used during oral they are complete in their protection. They have classes to teach how to use them even during oral. I have been to them.

I've been told by doctors and have read in health books that condoms do not protect you 100% from HPV or any other STDs... not sure where you got your info from

your wrong. i used to work in a gu clinic, dont make yourself sound like a g.u.m doctor

She is wrong? So you are saying that condoms provide 100% protection from all STDs?

have you read the thread??

I SAID YOU CAN STILL CATCH HERPES, WARTS, EVEN IF YOUR USING A CONDOM, HERPES AND WARTS ARE PASSED ON BY SKIN TO SKIN CONTACT.

Don't be rude. I did read the thread; she said they did not provide 100% protection and you said "you are wrong" and said she was trying to be a doctor. Stop acting like such an expert on everything and let other people question your authority. Ma'am.

the wrong, wasnt about that, the wrong was about the hpv, if you read it properly you will see that.

YOU GET WARTS FROM HPV... if you knew so much, you'd know that!

hpv is shown from doing a smear

and what does that have to do with any of this? I notice that you don't answer questions when other people are right. That's your choice, but don't think it goes unnoticed. Believe it or not, we are not all a bunch of silly dummmykins waiting for you to come enlighten us.

One in four teenage girls in the United States has a sexually-transmitted disease, a study has indicated.

The study, by the federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), found an even higher prevalence of STDs among black girls.

Researchers analysed data from a nationally representative sample of 838 US girls aged 14 to 19.

A virus that causes cervical cancer - HPV - was the most common, followed by chlamydia, trichomoniasis and herpes.

The CDC says the study is the first in its kind to examine the prevalence of common sexually transmitted diseases among adolescent girls.

It found that nearly half of the African-American girls surveyed had at least one STD, while the rate was 20% among white and Mexican-American teenagers.

Human papillomavirus, or HPV, affected 18% of the girls surveyed, chlamydia 4%, trichomoniasis 2.5%, and herpes simplex virus 2%.

Screening recommended

The CDC's Devin Fenton said it was a serious issue because the diseases could lead to infertility and cervical cancer.

"Screening, vaccination and other prevention strategies for sexually active women are among our highest public health priorities," he said.

The CDC is recommending annual chlamydia screening for all sexually active women under 25, and HPV vaccines for girls aged 11 to 12, followed by booster injections.

John Douglas, the CDC's head of STD prevention, says screenings are underused because teenagers often do not think they are at risk.

Analysts say some doctors are also reluctant to discuss screening with teenage patients because of confidentiality concerns, knowing parents would have to be told of the results.

Sorry, no sympathy here. Parents should be there for the kids and inform them of the risks. An uninformed child stems from an uninformed parent. Stress needs to be placed back on those who have procreated and brought a life into this world...be responsible with your children already! Geez! grumble

Are you deliberately not understand anything anyone says? No one is suggesting that we should not use condoms. They are saying that you gave bad advice when you said if you use a condom you never have to worry about your health. That is terrible advice, and you know it, and please admit it.

Try answering a question when one is asked of you instead of telling me things that I already know.

Do you know what HPV is?

Good Lord people... Quit bickering and read.

Abstinence or lifelong monogamy are the most effective ways to avoid HPV infection. However, for most sexually active women, the most important preventive measure women can take to protect themselves from developing cervical cancer is having regular Pap tests (Janicek & Averette, 2001). Avoiding skin-to-skin contact with someone with HPV is the most effective strategy to prevent HPV infection. And although condoms may not eliminate the risk of transmitting HPV, the CDC recommends them for risk reduction (CDC, 2001). Since HPV sheds beyond the covered area, however, condoms do not provide as complete protection as they do for some other pathogens, such as HIV and gonorrhea (Stone, et al., 1999). The claims of condom-use opponents who suggest that condom use leads to increased numbers of HPV infections are false and alarmist. Condom use cannot be blamed for the high prevalence of HPV infection or the incidence of cervical cancer among women in the U.S.

thanks rt - but not one person in this thread suggested NOT using condoms. They were just saying, as you pointed out, that they are not 100% - so it makes sense to choose your partners wisely, if humanly possible. Or at least limit the number so as not to skew the odds against you.

I think everyone is this thread agrees that condoms should be used. What we disagreed with was the statement that if you use a condom, you will never have to worry about your health. That statement is wrong on so many levels and the person who said it attacked anyone who disagreed with it.
