I see and hear alot about how people are "blessing" our troops and make statements as such...Of course we all would rather that they all come home, free of injury,sound of mind body & spirit. It's all good because because they are doing an important and vital job by putting themselves in harms way to protect our national interest.
I'm certainly no forign affairs expert but I wonder how much of that stems from a collective guilt over how we generally treated the Viet Nam vets when they returned?


Please don't take this wrong, but I kind of think that the mothers & fathers, brothers & sisters, sons and daughters of the slain & maimed troops should have the most say over whether it's all justifiable or not...
My own son in law is in Iraq right now...He told me directly that the only reason he feels compelled to be there at all is to be "side by side with his buddies"...

All I can say is yes I wish they were all home with there familys were they belong. But........... since they are not the least we can do is support them for where they are and what they are doing.

I'm just wondering how many of us have a solid informed conviction about why we're there and what do we expect long term... Is it really worth all the lives and futures of our brave troops...

As a soldier and a soldiers girlfriend, I support my brothers and sisters and pray for the fallen.
I'm proud that I decided to fight for your freedom and everyones in this country.The only thing we ask is that you respect what we do and support us and also never forget us. The brave that fight and the fallen that fought even harder to make this great land ours...

I'm not trolling for an arguement, only asking if it's enough that our troops feel that the main reason they are there is to protect each other...is all...

I also served honorably, but whether or not you're fighting specifically for my freedom seems very debatable to me in this case...

As a father of a son that served a tour in Afghanistan (14 months) and then a tour in Iraq (16 months) all I can say is He never questioned it so how in the hell could I.

Well then somebody explain to me why I joined the Army in the first place?? In a time of war when most will not...Someone also explain why my 22yr old cousin who was a firefighter had to die Sept 11th...Why I signed my name on a contract knowing damn well I'm going to Iraq sooner or later.And why I'm willing to die for you and everyone in this country...Why because I'm an American soldier a proud American soldier..Listen to Toby's Keith's American Soldier the lyrics say it all...

My best friend and ex-boyfriend died a week and a half ago over in iraq. Whether he was or was not fighting for your specific freedom is irrelevant...he was called up to go over.He died and he'll never come home he'll never see his son again and his child will never know fully what a great man his dad was........No matter what the personal reason's each individual soldier has for being there or the collective reason of our Gov't THEY ARE THERE...just support them

I pray everyday for are soldiers and for there safe return..but I do think he made a point about how the Viet Nam soldiers were treated on there return.God bless all our troops...and if you see a soldier walk up and shake ther hand and thank them..I know I do.

Why Iraq though ? Why not Pakistan? North Korea? Yemen ? Darfur? Ethiopia? Why are we the world's policemen ?

The current administration has the "spin" so spun that they have been trying to equate being against *their* policy as somehow being *against* the troops.

THAT'S a sweeping generalization.

IMO one important thing that we clearly learned from Vietnam is that there is no clearity except that our troops ARE our sons/daughters, brothers/sisters, fathers/mothers who are heroes prepared to make the ultimate sacrafice to defend the ideals we hold dear and are absolute heroes! (pardon the run-on)

It is the powers that be who blur the lines of truth and taint the honorable job that these people perform.


There is no greater support to give these heroes than doing our best to keep the puppet masters in check.

My sincere condolences for your loss and his family's... But it seems like blind faith to me...the reasons DO matter...I'm sure that as his son comes of age and with the benifit of hindsight, he'll question it too...
