The current administration has the "spin" so spun that they have been trying to equate being against *their* policy as somehow being *against* the troops.

THAT'S a sweeping generalization.

IMO one important thing that we clearly learned from Vietnam is that there is no clearity except that our troops ARE our sons/daughters, brothers/sisters, fathers/mothers who are heroes prepared to make the ultimate sacrafice to defend the ideals we hold dear and are absolute heroes! (pardon the run-on)

It is the powers that be who blur the lines of truth and taint the honorable job that these people perform.

There is no greater support to give these heroes than doing our best to keep the puppet masters in check.

agreed...thank you...drinker

Please don't take this wrong, but I kind of think that the mothers & fathers, brothers & sisters, sons and daughters of the slain & maimed troops should have the most say over whether it's all justifiable or not...
My own son in law is in Iraq right now...He told me directly that the only reason he feels compelled to be there at all is to be "side by side with his buddies"...

first its hard to believe you are old enough
to have a son-in-law

and second, i don't know if 'being with my buddies' is
a great reason for signing on.

i say 'God bless' because i KNOW that these fellas are
putting themselves in danger so i can drive my car, go to whatever church i want to, wear what i want, love who i choose to love, go to work or to the market without fear of being blown
up...

lay down his life for his friends" flowerforyou

Oh believe me, I'm old enough alright...lol, why on earth would someone lie about that ? Anyways, I appreciate and respect your convictions and far be it from me to make light of anyone's patriotism. All I know is that it would behoove anyone (any U.S. citizen) who subscribes to the notion that our leaders shouldn't be questioned or challenged,to re-read their Constitution and make sure that it's being held up as the law of the land, above all of our leaders, elected and appointed alike.
To say "I lay down my life because my buddies lay theirs down" seems like pretzel logic to me...
To say " I put myself in harms way and follow any orders bestowed on me, and make the ultimate sacrifice if required" is a noble sacrifice worthy of the highest honor and I'm with the majority of freedom loving Americans in believing so, but as a freedom loving American (who also served faithfully and honorably) who also believes in reason and fairplay, I have to question whether or not our brave young men and women are being mislead, as well as the rest of us...
I'm not a pacifist who believes in avoiding forign conflict and interventions. I understand that it's in our best interest to insure our oil supplies. I understand that we're fighting an entrenched war on terrorism.
I only wonder sometimes, and I don't think I'm alone in this, If there aren't other factors involved in the decision making processes that would be less noble, and maybe not so worthy of the brave sacrifices that are asked of them, their families and indirectly, all of us... That's all...
I just think that there might be alot more to the whole shebang than we're lead to believe...is all...
"Question the answers" It seems like the quintessential American thing to do... IMO
