Saddam came into power, or I should say, seized power in July of 1979. In the early months of his power he had hundreds of members of his own party and army officers who he thought might be against him murdered. He even ordered the killing of two of his own sons-in-law who had defected to Jordan. Saddam tricked them into coming back to Baghdad by promising them safety. During his rule of terror he used executions and extrajudicial killings as a tool of political repression, both to eliminate real or suspected political opponents.
...NO ARGUMENT HERE, ALL TRUE, BUT YOU LEFT OUT THAT HIS RISE TO POWER WAS SANCTIONED AND MADE POSSIBLE BY THE CIA/REGAN ADMINISTRATION. SAME ADMINISTRATION THAT SOLD WEAPONS TO KNOWN TERRORISTS (REMEMBER THE IRAN/CONTRA SCANDAL???)IN ORDER TO GET US HOSTAGES RELEASED FROM IRAN

He plunged Iraq into an eight-year war with neighboring Iran. The aftermath of that war was that hundreds of thousands in Iran and Iraq were killed and Saddam destroyed Iraq's economy.
...AGAIN TRUE, THIS WAR BENEFITED THE US SINCE THEY WERE UNABLE TO TOPPLE THE RELIGIOUS REGIME WHICH HAD INSTALLED ITSELF AFTER A COUP AGAINST THE KING OF IRAN (ANOTHER USA PUPPET)

The economic troubles from the Iran war led Saddam to invade Kuwait in the summer of 1990, seeking to grab its oil wealth, but the American-led coalitiion stopped him.
...THE PUPPET TRYING TO CUT THE STRINGS, LET US NOT FORGET THAT THE WEAPONS USED AGAINST US SOLDIERS WHERE THOSE PROVIDED BY THE US FOR SADDAM'S "WAR" AGAINST IRAN (YOU CAN THANK REGAN FOR THAT ONE TOO)TAKING INTO CONSIDERATION THAT THE WAR THREATENED THE US IN NO WAY, ONE WONDERS WHY YOUNG MEN AND WOMEN WERE SENT TO THE MIDDLE EAST IN THE FIST PLACE...OH YES...ALL THAT OIL...

As far as Weapons of Mass Destruction are concerned, the International Atomic Energy Agency confirmed in the 1990s that Saddam Hussein had an advanced nuclear weapons development program, a design for a nuclear weapon, and was working on methods of enriching uranium for a nuclear bomb. He had recently sought significant quantities of uranium from Africa, according to the British Government. He had attempted to purchase high strength aluminum tubes suitable for nuclear weapons, according to intelligence sources. Yet he had not credibly explained these activities.
...AGAIN NO DISPUTE HERE BUT NOTHING WAS EVER FOUND THAT WAS ACUTALLY BUILT...A PROGRAM IS NOT A BOMB....ALLIED INTELLIGENCE SHOWED THAT IRAQ DID NOT HAVE THE CAPACITY TO BUILD NUCLEAR WEAPONS.

Iraqi officials were accompanying all inspectors in order to intimidate witnesses. Iraq was blocking U-2 surveillance flights requested by the U.N. Saddam Hussein had ordered that scientists who cooperate with the UN be killed, along with their families.
...UN OFFICIALS REPORTED THAT THE IRAQI GOVRNT COOPERATED FULLY WITH INSPECTIONS AND FOUND NO EVIDENCE TO SUPPORT THE "THREATS" TO SCIENTISTS. IRAQI SCIENTISTS WERE OFFERED AMNISTY BY THE US IF THEY WOULD SPEAK OUT AGAINST SADDAM, SOME DID THUS THE REPORTS OF THREATS.

Shall we go into the crimes he committed against humanity with the torture chambers, the mass graves, the supression of freedom, and on and on?
...WHICH THE US CONVENIANTLY LOOKED THE OTHER WAY FOR YEARS....WHILE SADDAM SERVED US INTERESTS...

^^..I find it strange that you post the same ole message over and over.....don't you and others in your camp accuse Bush of being crazy since he does the same thing over and over expecting different results?...are you not doing what you accuse Bush of doing?

It is no secret that there have been many mistakes made by the current administation, and a change is clearly needed. 20 years of Bush/Clinton is enough for anyone. But are some people so partisan blind, that they cannot see that there have been some really good things in the Bush era? Like there were a lot of good things in the Bill Clinton era? This is a President that I did not agree with 99% of the time, but I will admit he did some very good things. Can any of the liberal democrats lay down the hate for just a moment and say something nice or consructive? I would be happy with ONE comment.

If you are referring to me, I have never accused Bush of being crazy, I have said I believe him and his administration to be incompetent, dangerous and serving the interest of big corporations. Id say the same if he were a democrat.
Sorry, dont get your point....

What is it with these constant accusations of hatred?? Just because I criticize someones policy doesnt mean I hate him...I dont even know the guy....this is about principals, not personalities.....Dont you think if I could mention ONE good thing I would? Hell Id even mention 2, 3, 4....if I could find it.....

WEll, glad it has FINALLY been admitted - Sadaam Hussein's atrocities against humanity.

But, US did NOT look the other way, the UN had sanctions against Sadaam for years, which Sadaam merely laughed at along with the some other mid east countries.

One main reason US finally went into Iraq, Sanctions after Sanctions broke, ignored, laughed at. Russia, France had too much financial and criminal ties with Iraq, thus they did what they could to let Sadaam keep up his atrocities while they, France, Russia looked the other way.

Well, just glad someone admitted to the atrocities of Sadaam Hussein.

Never denied it, Ironically it was his attrocities committed against humanity that kept terrorists groups out of Iran...he exterminated everyone who posed a threat to him. He was wholly anti Taliban and prohibited the religious muslim schools (AKA terrorist recruitment centers) that are so prevalent in Iraq and Afgahnistan. By removing this monster the US eliminated the only thing preventing terrorists from flourishing in Iran as they do today...and you guys think the world is safer???laugh
I find the irony delicious, dont you...?

When one uses upper case on the internet or email, it implies that person is yelling and shouting. This is what far left liberals who cannot refute arguments with facts do ..... intimidate the other person by shouting them down. Well, you failed. My facts are correct and all of your screaming and yelling will not change that.

Irish rocker hails Bush on Africa;
 By Jennifer Harper and Jon Ward, THE WASHINGTON TIMES

 Irish rock 'n' roll singer Bob Geldof yesterday said President Bush has done more to fight disease and poverty in Africa than any of his predecessors.

Mr. Geldof, long an activist for Africa, was downright effusive about Mr. Bush during an informal meeting with the press yesterday near Kigali, Rwanda.
........

 Mr. Bush "has done more than any other president so far," Mr. Geldof said.

 " ..... George W. Bush is basking in rare adulation on his African tour," noted one ABC News account.

...The accounts were different among African news organizations. Mr. Bush was called "relaxed and charming" by the Citizen newspaper in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania.
.....

flowerforyou  "Bush at home in Africa, where the U.S. still shines," said the Namibian. flowerforyou

The Liberian paper also yesterday offered an account which showed that Mr. Bush also resonated with other entertainers besides Mr. Geldof:

  "In a humid rehearsal studio, Liberia's pop queen is practicing her newest single - a song called 'Thank You' to be released on the occasion of President George Bush's visit to this African capital this week. Her head tilted back, her face wet with sweat, Juli Endee pulls the microphone close and belts out, 'Thank you George Bush,' " the account said.

It's not the first time Mr. Bush got unexpected accolades from the Irishman, though. In 2003, Mr. Geldof praised the Bush administration for clearly allocating funds for AIDS relief in Africa ....telling the Guardian, "Clinton was a good guy, but he did [nothing.]"noway

* Jon Ward reported from Rwanda.
