OMG this is interesting! Do you ever allow yourself to be bored? Apparently many rather experience something very unpleasant or painful than be bored? (WTF?!!)

Do you allow yourself to simply be bored? Or do you fill every moment of time with being bent over your mobile? Like when queuing? Waiting for a traffic light to go green, etc etc.

When you don't allow your brain to get bored, you miss out on an awful lot of important things in life, like getting inspired, creative, having a vision of your goal in life, and... even being a nicer person!
All in all being bored is good for you!

So... this 7 minute vid is excellent to fill the time if you're bored, and when not, it's really interesting.

Interesting and cool video Crystal. :)

It gives a whole different prospective of the word "bored", which typically is seen as something taboo. I often here people say "Only boring people get bored", like there's something wrong with it.

I'm pretty good at allowing myself to be bored, turning off external stimuli and just being still with nothing but my own thoughts. I find it refreshing and relaxing. Though I never thought of it as letting myself be bored, just letting myself be still. According to the video, it's basically the same thing.

When I was on Mackinac Island a few summers ago, there was this small little garden area. In the center was a statue of a Native American and a couple animals at his side. The writing below said "Be Still". I loved just sitting there staring off into space, just being still. There are times when I forget to take that still/bored time, life gets pretty busy, then I remember that statue and how important it is that I take the time to be bored/still.

I had to have a look at that statue, haha. I love it!! It immediately gives you a sense of calm and quiet, slowing down and relaxing.
Happy you mentioned it so I could see it too :)

Indeed it's not really bored, but I think society as it is has come to regard it as such maybe because we're expected to perform and do non-stop.
It's funny when I look back at myself... as a kid my mind always drifted, whether at home or at school. But I do recall you're then 'brought back' by adults who want you to be here, focus, pay attention etc.
I also clearly remember when in my late 30s I couldn't really 'be' anymore? Maybe due to the stress of life I experienced at the time. I had to keep my mind busy. I found out because my ex could be still, albeit with the help of hash. But I then realised I just couldn't anymore.
Now I'm better at it, but it works best in nature. When at home I don't do it so much.
But... I'm not on my phone when in queue or in traffic. That's going too far for me.

Awesome, thanks for posting the photo. Yes, it has an instant calm effect when you approach.

I too, find it easier to do in nature. It was much harder to do at home when there were things you needed to tend to around the house. I'd find myself seeking out one day a week or every other week to have that "do nothing day". Not nearly as effective as when you take the time daily.

Yep, I was a daydreamer too. And brought back to "reality" by adults, haha.

Aside from using the GPS, I don't normally touch my phone when driving. On this trip out West I had planned on listening to music. So far I've spent more time in silence than anything else. It's been nice! When I do turn on music, it's been more instrumental and Native American music, it has a way of instantly raising my vibration and energy... much better than energy drinks, lol.

Oh yes, music in the car... I used to always have the radio on, as a matter of fact it went on as soon as I started the car. I could switch that off, but I liked it.
Now, I rarely have the radio on. I miss it so much that I haven't even figured out how the radio on my new car works, hahahahaha. I seriously don't know. If I want it, it's pot luck. I don't even know what the on/off button is, lol.
Once I got it to work, it was June mind you, and the CD started, playing Christmas songs, laugh
I've had this car for nearly a year now, I still don't know how to switch it on. I don't really care. As you say, I enjoy the silence :)

Also, this keeping busy thing... I haven't worked for quite some time now due to my ailments, but I still often have this feeling that I must do something as I must be a useful member of society. That part is so drilled into our system, just by living in our western societies. We are simply being demanded to be useful.
I know it's a lot of BS but to stop it... I sometimes feel guilty for not doing anything, yet I don't have to do anything.

I guess we have different definitions
of 'bored'.

very good

I've come across something similar before, Probably in non vid form, a few years ago, as part of a debate about what mobiles are doing to us.

Have you watched any of his others? the one about the science of thinking.

I had to watch it twice. ( when I got bored later)

I definitely like to turn off and go to my own thoughts. Sometimes not interacting or doing is very therapeutic and leads to the depths of me. I create my best poetry when alone and undistracted.
Sadly, I never find enough alone time. Hence the desire to live rural and away from folks.

(I don't watch many videos on youtube, except old movies and music))
I'm never really bored.
I do meditate.

Even when I can't be physically active my mind is always thinking.
I have a very active imagination (always have).
When sleeping, my dreams are always very rich and full.

I'm a thinker. I used to over-think everything.
During idle time (dr office, standing in line, standing in ranks in the service, in a foxhole, a bunker, whatever) I am very aware of my surroundings and once I reach a certain point, I imagine science fiction and fantasy realms which give me a feeling of inner adventure.

Sometimes I'll work out the details to complex physics of worlds, space ships, situations, body styles of aliens, you name it.
In my younger, healthier days I would put my imagination to work on creative passionate sexual fantasies. I wasn't really deviant, more like romantic passionate.

I've always thought I have a book series in my head just waiting to get written. Problem is, I never stop adding to it. I go into way too much detail and get lost in the specific aspects of it.
If I'm thinking of an alien planet, I have to imagine everything about it before I can move on to the next part of the story. From its gravity to its sunshine, to its weather to its microbes to its evolutionary history which lead to its current state. I even invent the language and the history of the sounds they make which lead to the language.

When I am thinking about scientific theory I've read, my mind has to play out every aspect of every possible permutation of the concept including exceptions.

Like I said, I'm never bored.

I remember reading once a theory that degenerative brain disease is caused by the mind being idle too much. The ole 'use it or lose it' idea. My dad was very imaginative and was never bored. He never lost his mind as he aged. He was sharp as a tack till the day he died.
I possess an incredible memory. Very detailed and accurate. Dad was the same way, sis is the same way. Not eidetic memory but pretty close. I believe this is why I test out at such a high IQ.

I also read a lot. I started reading my dad's library at age 7. He had the entire Tarzan series. I remember how those books smelled, asking dad questions, looking up words I didn't understand.
I used to read encyclopedias and dictionaries. I read my school text books, all the pertinent work manuals, even the federal register as it pertained to my job functions. Now, I read everything I can find on the internet which interests me. Quite a wide range of subjects.

My body doesn't allow me to do much of the physical stuff I used to do but my mind is strong and my imagination is wide.
To me, the concept of boredom is non-existent.

Hi Shakes-beard! I have indeed watched quite a number of his vid. A very interesting channel he has! He said in one clip that after a few months he could quit his part-time job and work on his channel only surprised More than 8 mill followers!
Now I got a channel myself but I ain't there quite yet, hahahaha.

Anywho, I did not see that video yet, I will check it out though! Some of his material has my mind go round in circles btw, hihi. Some things are beyond my wheelhouse, grin.
There was one on synchronicity, how everything automatically synchronizes, which touches upon Joe Dispenza's work who's also shown this with metronomes.
It was a very good clip too!

Nice, Ladywind! I do live rural and have the time, but somehow it is so easy to put it off! Somehow it's as if the mind resists to being shut off for while, hihi.

Do you ever go out in nature to just sit or walk or 'be'?
I also tend to have a very busy mind, and sometimes it is bliss to go somewhere in nature to just sit, do nothing, not really thinking about anything, just nature, birds, bees, sun. I love staring at water, the movement of the ripples almost putting me in a trance.
It's so relaxing to shut down the brain every now and then. It's like what Joe Dispenza says: the body and Soul let out a sigh of relief when the brain shuts up!
Not verbatim, but close to that. It's so rejuvenating!

Do you ever go out in nature to just sit or walk or 'be'?

Certainly but my mind is alive.
I once sat on the stoop looking at the cars in the parking lot.
The first car I noticed (Volvo) had wipers on the headlights.
I laughed for an hour about how the other cars were jealous of that car and some really let themselves go while others got all beefed up or pretty to compensate.
Its was pretty entertaining to me.
laugh

I would go for walks in the woods and imagine squirrel super-highways in the trees. I even imagined the conversations the trees had about all that scampering.
Again, pretty entertaining to me.

I've never just 'vegged out'. I might be sitting motionless with a blank stare on me but inside my head is a whirlwind of activity.
It was way worse when I was in depression because my whirlwind was a negative one which pushed me to depths I never want to experience again.
I actively choose not to go down that hole anymore.

Emptiness, to me, is the path to depression.

Are you ever bored?

Never.
I cannot imagine.
Life is so short, there is so much to learn, books to be read,
connections to be made, the need for peace..

I think the title is misleading, hihi. I don't know if you watch the vid?
It's more about what Tom calls 'vegging out', going blank because you have nothing to do, and how incredibly healthy it is to do that.
You actually miss out when you don't.

I've got too much stuff to do to ever get bored.

Like right now I'm late for an afternoon nap.
