Topic: You and Windows & Curtains/Blinds | |
---|---|
How do you sleep and live concerning windows and curtains/blinds?
Do you sleep without or with the windows covered? At night in your living room, do you close them so you have privacy when the lights are on or leave everything open and don't give a toss? I pull the curtains and blinds (indoors) closed when it gets dark. I don't like to sit in a lit-up fish bowl, hihi. The street is a few meters from the front of my house and in the evening there's still people walking their dog. ANd I got a very very nosy near-neighbour. I also sleep with a darkening blind otherwise I wake up at first light, which would really P me O, hihi. Also, I don't like the idea of someone watching me while I cannot see them. The thought scares me. Plus... I think my cats would hassle me when they'd see me. They don't understand the window ain't a door for them to enter the premises. How bout you? |

Iβm with you Crystal.
As soon as it gets dark, my blinds get closed but during the day I have them open to let as much light into the house. All my blinds (except for the living room) are blackout blinds. I donβt sleep too well and need total darkness to help me get to sleep. |

I used to, but since living here with only sheers in the living room and no curtains in either bedroom or the bathroom, I've gotten used to not worrying about privacy. The kitchen window has a valance, and there's a curtain at the kitchen table, but that's it.
I was going to put a curtain in my bedroom, but it would block the moonlight from shining on me while I sleep. Plus there's a privacy fence outside and the window is high enough that the person would have to be 7ft tall to see in. The bathroom window can be seen by the neighbor if he's on his deck, but he's gay, so I don't care. Kidding, I usually wait until the window is nice and steamy before getting into the shower. Surprisingly, I actually like it better this way. With it being a mobile home, it can get pretty dark in here. Not having curtains, and only sheers in the living room helps lighten it up quite a bit. And the neighborhood is a very safe and quiet neighborhood, not sure I'd do it like this anywhere else. |

In the bedrooms I have blackout curtains and mini blinds which I keep closed.
I sleep at weird times due to my meds. In the bath I have a mini blind half way open (elevated window). In the kitchen I have tied back curtains always open but can be closed when sun is too bright. In the living room I have mini blinds and tied back curtains with sculpted inners which hang free. During the daylight hours I have the mini blinds open half way unless there is a lot of traffic (close to the road) and I am listening to music or watch movies. At night the mini blinds are closed. There is a railroad track around 3 blocks away and a lot of road crossings so when a train goes by, its almost a constant horn. The mini blinds help dampen that sound. The road is about 4 or 5 meters from my porch. It gets pretty busy during rush hours and there is no sound barriers. I get tired of the tire noise, expecially when its raining. My living room faces east so I get wonderful morning sunshine. I have no windows facing west. My side windows to the south view the neighboring duplex about 2 meters away (windows are offset) so there isn't much 'view'. I do get nice sunlight travel in my kitchen and bath tho. In the heat of the summer I try to keep my blinds 3/4 pulled. Less sun = less air conditioning = lower electric bill. |

Humm.. I'm one that has blinds on every window in my house. Even use to have them on my enclosed front porch so I could just open them when I decided to sit out there.. But decided when I re-painted my front porch I would take the blinds down due to all the plants I have on my porch..
I do have the black-out curtains on my bedroom window, not due to me sleeping for I can sleep with the lights on lol.. I did it cause with white plastic shades I did not want anyone to see shadows of me at night, in there changing clothes lol.. But honestly, my shades are always closed unless I'm cleaning, etc, and want more light in the house.. The way I look at it no one needs to see what I have in my house.. I enjoy my privacy... |

All my blinds (except for the living room) are blackout blinds. I donβt sleep too well and need total darkness to help me get to sleep. I do sleep well and deep but I do need it to be dark. It also makes me feel safe :) The extension roof is right underneath the bedroom window, so if someone would get on there their feet would only be 40 cms below the lower sill. Because of this I never sleep with the window open, not even during a heat wave. I just suffer by my lonesome self, haha. |

I sleep naked, next to an open window.

I'd buy self-adhesive window film. I got that downstairs on the bottom part of the large windows so people that walk by cannot look in so easily but I can see them, hihi. As for the moon... When still in my ex's house, I often left the window in the slanted roof uncovered during full moon. It shone directly in the room and on the bed. Here I don't get moonlight, certainly not in my bedroom (NW). |

Up to a point you get used to it, but still a constant irritant. Where I live it is so quiet that all I hear is my own tinnitus and the ticking of my clock. I could hear a pin drop. But in any case, you also have blinds and curtains :) |

I get the not wanting see-through curtains! I'd hate that too, for the same reason. Even the double roller blinds in the living are non-see through and I don't use those as the main curtains really. But during the day everything is open. I need light! But you live in Texas, might be different and lighter anyways than it is here. |

Here I don't get moonlight, certainly not in my bedroom (NW). All the other places I've lived, I've made sure the curtains or blinds were closed at night, and definitely in the bathroom all the time, haha. During the day, I always keep the curtains open to let in sunshine. There's really no way for anyone to walk by, the bathroom is in the back of the trailer alongside a privacy fence. My bedroom is alongside the privacy fence too, and the window is fairly high up, so someone would have to use a ladder to see in, so I haven't bothered trying to cover it up. I was thinking of putting up something just to make it prettier, but I would still leave them open. I have a pretty sun-catcher hanging up instead. |

All my blinds are the white plastic ones that still let a lot of light in.. Except for the ones in my livingroom those are wooden blinds and it keeps it darker due to my tv is on the opposite wall that my windows are on and it keeps the glare off the tv.. |

I live in a remote paradise and adore natural light/indoor-outdoor connection . Love looking at the ocean and night sky . Although I have remote controlled blinds I seldom use them .

I live in a remote paradise and adore natural light/indoor-outdoor connection . Love looking at the ocean and night sky . Although I have remote controlled blinds I seldom use them . Sounds wonderful! I wouldn't feel comfy myself. Maybe I've watched too many movies, hihi. I live in a village, but also very private, no one can look into my home except for people walking past the house, which is a few only. The garden is almost 100% private. I was very lucky to have that almost in the middle of a village. I could dance nekkid in my garden, no one would see. But in the evenings the garden become a dark hole and I don't like it, makes me uneasy. So I pull the thick curtains closed. What I'm wondering... do you dare leave doors open that lead out to garden/back at night? Is it fenced off? |

I have curtains except in the kitchen and bathroom. I have blinds in one window in the living room. I like a lot of light and I like it in the morning when the sunlight comes in. One of the first things I do in the morning is open the curtains even though it's mostly dark.
