You too got this thing that you do or don't like specific actors/actresses, maybe because of a roll they played or an interview you seen them in?
Or can you let go of who they played right after a movie?

Do you think/feel that the roles they play tell something about their real personality? In the sense that would a real happy person play a god awful character. Or a quiet person a very outgoing, boisterous one?

What I noticed when watching some talkshows and interviews is that people like Will Smith, Gerard Buttler, Ricky Gervais, Emily Blunt, Harrison Ford, Judi Dench, are an absolute joy to hear and see. Like their characters are good or highly enjoyable.

Then there's for instance Charlize Theron... making me feel like, please go back to your ice castle in "Hunter's War", hihi.

I can't stand tom cruise after top gun, and only because it was a good movie.
I never watch anything else with him in it.
He messed with my aussy actress wife to be, and he's a nut.

Not keen on Elvis anything, very small doses are enough.

Daytime TV drama stars, who are they?

All politicians, especially national addresses, and royal B.S., - TV goes off.

And Mork from Ork, (RIP), absolutely can't stand him at all.

Look, you've got me all negative again ! laugh

I know what you mean about Charlize Theron, she just looks wrong. Then again, she's part of that generic blonde crowd like Kate Blanchet and Gwyneth Paltrow.

Now you mention it, I've never been overly keen on Tom Cruise movies either. A few exceptions, but I remember everyone raving about him in Top Gun, especially women of course, and I didn't see the appeal. I actually found him not attractive at all.
Yet, when you see him in talk shows (I'm talking about Graham Norton show, which is so great) he is a wonderful, funny, astute, happy man. Truly an asset to have as a guest.

Mork, HORRIBLE, I hated that show, because of him. It kind of marked the man for me, I never really took to him anymore, hihi.

Funny you mention them as I'm not keen on 'em either, haha. Although I did love Galadriel in LoTR by Kate Blanchett.

She was OK but I still prefer the book, it came with better pictureshappy

I’m not a fan of Mel Gibson, his characters are never convincing for me. On the other hand,
Daniel Day Lewis was magnificent as Bill the Butcher in Gangs of New York. One of my
all time favorite movie characters.

I will tell you, I am scared to death of Christopher Walken, AND
Javier Bardem (No Country For Old Men, worst movie EVER!) for the
parts they played, I mean, I would walk a mile out of my way to
avoid either of them.

They are probably the nicest people in the world, but played parts
SO real the chill is still there.

Yes, Christopher Walken has played some remarkably chilling and effective roles, whilst at the same time being one of the nicest and most unassuming people you could hope to meet.

I don't like Christopher Walken either...
And Javier Bardem... he did a REAL good job in Skyfall (James Bond)! He was scary all right.

I'd also have my reservations about Antony Hopkins. I think he's a real decent guy, but so was Hannibal Lecter... ohwell

Another couple of actors to seriously dislike...
Samuel Roukin, and Sam Spruell. The latter in his briefs in "Taken 3"... not a pretty sight.

I have to disagree with the common opinion of Robin Williams. He can easily match up against anyone whether it be in a comedic or dramatic role. It took him a while to find his groove and not just take whatever parts came his way (Popeye through Club Paradise (1980-1986). From Good Morning Vietnam (1987) onward most of his roles were incredible. Yes, there still were a few stinkers (Toys and Cadillac Man come directly to mind) but try taking a fresh look at the serious parts he covered (Awakenings, Insomnia, Patch Adams, The Fisher King, Final Cut and One Hour Photo) and make sure not to miss the job he did in What Dreams May Come (IMO his best work).

On the comic side, he was probably one of the top improv comedians EVER to grace a stage. His mind was so quick and he was able to change gears so smoothly you would have thought he was working from a script. The only other Improv I ever saw that was able to not only keep up with him, but surpassed his skills and talents would be Jonathan Winters. JW didn't have a script when he went onstage. We had a couple of his comedy albums when I was growing up and the entire record was him taking situations and suggestions from the audience and he would go from that.

sorry but the roles they play don't reflect the artists. alan rickman in die hard and rutger howard in too many to mention both come to mind.

that said i lost a huge amount of respect for the dixie chicks when they used their fame to climb on a soapbox and bash the then current administration.

I think for the most part it is just a job for most actors/actresses to not play the kind of Character they really are in real life.

Although there is always few exceptions to that rule.

I like Julia Roberts and she can play multiple characters. In real life, she has a beautiful Personality!

I enjoy watching Benicio Del Toro - he usually has to play the bad guy, but who cares.

One of my least favorite actors is Adam Sandler, but he is entertaining as a guest on talk shows.

I had the big problem when they were doing a remake of the movie "The Longest Yard" and Adam Sandler was playing the lead. At least they they let Burt Reynolds be in the movie.

I've only seen her play nice/good characters? So congruent with her personality.

I think for some it's simply based on their looks? Like Sam Spruell for instance... He doesn't really look the part and wouldn't be what you'd like to see playing James Bond, for instance.

And I also think accent at times plays a role? Like some Dutch actors got to play Russians, like Jeroen KrabbΓ© in The Fugitive. But if you hear him speak English... makes my ears hurt, hihi. He could not easily have played an American and certainly not an Englishman because of his accent.

I had a lot more issues with that version than just Adam Sandler. However, you should feel comforted in this: During one of the Behind the Scenes interviews Sandler admitted that he blew off on-field advice from Burt Renyolds (the same that he got from Ray Nitschke during his 1974 performance) and had the same thing happen to him that happened to Renyolds...he got flattened on the next play.

At least Renyolds had played college ball, albeit as a running back, and worked in quite a few movies as a stunt man or performed his own stuntwork until he became too big of a name and the studios wouldn't let him do them anymore.

As for Tom Cruise, I have to agree the majority here, but for different reasons. Cruise almost always plays the same character in no matter what role or movie (the one exception is the Failed Father role in the War of the Worlds (2005) remake) and that is of the Cocky Natural Winner. He never has to work at anything, it always comes easily (Top Gun, The Color of Money, The Firm, Days of Thunder, Young Guns, Mission: Impossible, etc)
