Oh my, how did I miss this thread?
I watch a tremendous number of films.
I usually don't pay attention to actor's off-screen personalities.
Unless it becomes big NEWS.
With actors, their fame comes to me from the characters they portray.
The same goes for writers and directors.

You can have a bad writer, a fair director and a good actor can look bad.
You can have a good writer and a bad director and a good actor can look bad.
You can have a good writer, a good director and a bad actor that ruins the story.
You can have a good writer, a good director and a good actor and the movie still sucks.

Actor notoriety comes from their on-screen performances.
When their popularity focuses on their personal, non-acting lives, reality often pops the delusional bubble.
Acting is a job. Its scripted and directed.
Life is not.

In Star Trek TOS, William Shatner effectively brought out Capt Kirk.
It came out that Shatner had a big head and treated the rest of the cast like crap.
Leonard Nimoy portrayed an intelligent self-controlled Spock.
I met him at the local college when he did a lecture and he was intelligent but full of laughter and humor. While I was kinda taken aback he wasn't really Spock, I was impressed with his intellect and self-control. It made me like the Spock character that much more.

When an actor acts a part outside their established norm it shows professionalism.
Recently I rewatched Brawl in Cellblock 99 with Vince Vaughn. Up till I saw that movie, Vince Vaughn was a romantic comedian/drama actor to me. When I saw him in this role I was amazed at how well he pulled it off being so far out of his established character personification.

I read movie trivia. I read movie goofs. I collect films by actor.
I collect films by subject.
I watch featurettes and 'making of' videos.
I know actors are real people and acting is their job.
Just like other real people their real lives are just as unique as everyone else.
I don't like abusive people. If I find out an actor is abusive to people, I lose interest in them but that doesn't mean I stop watching their films, if they are good actors.

Actors I do not like:
Robin Williams because he entertained people then committed suicide.
I really liked his role in Bicentennial Man.
Tom Cruise because he is a rich sniveling snob who I expect to throw a tantrum if he doesn't get his way.
I really liked his role in Edge of Tomorrow.
Steven Segal because I read he was abusive to his family. (maybe not but the impression fits with his personality off-screen)
I really liked his role in Under Siege but I can't watch his other films anymore. I used to like them. I still collect them tho.

With the number of films I watch I see a lot of great actors performing beautifully.
I usually don't have issue unless they are just really bad.
What I have issue with is lazy, unimaginative writing and bad directing.

I don't feel Jennifer Lawrence. I feel she is given a lot of attention yet there are better actresses

Oh, yes, totally agree! Granted, I liked her in the Hunger Games, which suited her. Not a warm personality, not much smiling if at all.
When you see her in interviews she's exactly like that in real life too. Even on relaxed shows like "The Graham Norton Show".
I don't like her much. Cold person, that's how she comes across.

One actor I LOVE LOVE LOVE... John Travolta!
I've seen him play great guys and bad guys, but no matter what, he's just great. And a danged good actor at that!

I saw a clip of him at Jimmy Fallon's, doing himself in "Face Off" and after one sentence switching to Nickie Cage. My jaw dropped. If I hadn't been watching I would've sworn it WAS Nickie Cage himself talking!
I also thought Nicolas did his own voice when 'wearing' John's face, apparently not.

But the man is an absolute joy, in interviews too.

In yesterday's The 4400 episode "Suffer the Children" was a woman playing a teacher, Kathryn Gordon.
Her energy and aura really struck me. There was something about her. Not a classic beauty, that's not it. I think it was in the eyes.

I don't know what he's done recently, but I like Jack Black in most of what I have seen him in, and also in the band: Tenacious D.

He puts so much energy into things, and is over enthusiastic and a bit nuts.
His acting is OK, as far as believability, but his musical ability is much better. The 'School of Rock' movie is family safe, but he also has other movies, rude stuff, and comedy, and hit songs, and acclaimed rock albums, and music videos.

He's one actor I would like to meet and chat with. Not many I would.

She's only done a couple of things: 1 episode of Elementary, one Jewish blaxploitation comedy called The Hebrew Hammer and a 2008 Florence Henderson movie called For Heaven's Sake.

I've not seen her in anything else I think, just The 4400.
She comes back in the series in season 3 & 4, and I've noticed they keep dressing her in typical shades of blue. Always blue. I think because this seems to highlight her eyes and it appears to give her an almost angelic aura.
It's really peculiar, I cannot recall ever seeing this with any other actor/actress.

More people who have this: knowing the name of an actress/actor but not knowing a face with it, nor any movies they've done.
So you know the name, and that they're quite well-known, but you yourself don't have a clue, hihi.
For me that would be RenΓ©e Zellweger. Even when looking her up and seeing her face it didn't ring any bell.

Most of the time its just the opposite for me.
I recognize the face (or the voice) but have no clue what their name is.

Stanley Tucci was one till I researched and found out his name on IMdb.

Many of the old actors from the 40s & 50s give me problems where I recognize the name but can't place the face.
John Agar is one. I knew he married Shirley Temple but had no clue which movies he was in, even when I watched them.

Its kinda funny but as many movies I watch and track I really don't look at much celebrity gossip. I have actors that I really like but I don't really want to know them personally. I don't care how rich they are or want to know about their celebrity lifestyle.

On another note; I don't really follow sports stars either. I'm not a die hard fan who sits and screams at the TV.

The actors I like, I like because I liked the movies or shows they are in.
Don't really care about their off-screen lives.

If I toured Hollywood I would be more interested in the props and makeup departments than touring the actors homes.
The only 'Walk of Fame' star I want to see is Godzilla's.

If I saw a star I recognize while touring the studios I'd be like, "Oh, there's Chris Hemsworth. I wonder what movie he's making right now".

When I see people idolizing other people I always think..."What's so special about them? They poop just like me."

Growing up, it was Paul Newman in about anything that he did, Clint Eastwood as "Dirty Harry", Cary Grant in "It takes a thief", and Sean Connery as Bond. It was always that, "Wow, I want to be like that guy one day". I will always associate those guys with those roles because of the impact that they had at the time. "The color of money" was never going to be the same without Newman after "The hustler"; it would have been a massive error to even try. Bond became more of a spy series after Connery, but when he was in the role, he could read the phone book and I would want to do it just like that one day. That whole alpha male, "Just don't even think about it" type of presence.

I have long promoted the TV
(AMC) 5 year series "Hell On Wheels" Staring Anson Mount. He absolutely made the show as the main character Cullen Bohanon IMO the best TV ever.

So one amazing actor: ANSON MOUNT

I've been a fan of many of his movies for years and about 15 years ago while at the Sturgis Rally I had an opportunity along with 50 others to ride from Sturgis to Devils tower and back (about 80 miles one way IIRC), we had a great ride and KEVIN COSTNER was a regular guy and an excellent host!

Soooo KEVIN COCSTNER ,great guy, actor and host who is now doing his musical thing.

Watching a movie with Daniel Craig "Dream House", a mystery/thriller, and at some point a bunch of teens ask him what the hell he's doing there.
Me's thinking... it would've been hilarious if they'd asked "And who the hell are you?" instead and he'd answered, "The name is Bond. James Bond."
laugh

His now wife Rachel Weisz is in that movie as well, playing his wife. They met during the making of it and got married some 6 months later.
They're such a lovely couple!

she was amazing

I know what you mean about Charlize Theron, she just looks wrong. Then again, she's part of that generic blonde crowd like Kate Blanchet and Gwyneth Paltrow.

Funny you mention them as I'm not keen on 'em either, haha. Although I did love Galadriel in LoTR by Kate Blanchett.

Pamela Anderson... looking at her now I thought she'd be around 68. Then it turns out she's only 53????????????? I'm not convinced, haha. Maybe her birthday is fake like everything else of her.
Fake t*ts, fake lips, fake hair, fake birthday...
I wonder how many new t*ts she's had by now... I do assume silicone balloons need replacement every now and then?

I will tell you, I am scared to death of Christopher Walken, AND
Javier Bardem (No Country For Old Men, worst movie EVER!) for the
parts they played, I mean, I would walk a mile out of my way to
avoid either of them.

They are probably the nicest people in the world, but played parts
SO real the chill is still there.

For me it would be Anthony Hopkins starting to talk to me in his Hannibal Lecter character. I'd still be so scared, wondering how minutes of life I have left...

Oh yes! All three are quite the character. But having seen Javier Bardem in an interview, I think he's really quite nice and gentle.
He's married to Penelope Cruz, that was a bit of a shock! Just the difference in the sizes of their heads, haha. His is huge!

But I think Anthony could very well be the scariest as he has this mysterious thing about him. And I'm not sure he doesn't have that in real life.

Amazing how much Audrey Hepburn and Morena Baccarin look alike!
Morena even has the longer nose septum like Audrey.
