Only The Brave
On the Yarnell Hill Fire of 2013. The movie is SO worth watching!

SPOILER ALERT, so don't continue reading if you want to see the movie
Movie based on the true story of the 2013 Yarnell Hill Fire where 19 members of the Granite Mountain Hotshots died.
I hadn't read that story, so I didn't know. What an ending... I sat here crying my eyes out, going through tissues like an idiot.

Today The Quake
A Norwegian film so you have to find a site with subs. It's nr 2 in a sequel, the first is The Wave. I watched that yesterday. Same thing with the subs.

I like both, had seen them before. Good movies. Norway has a lot of seismic activity, the most in Europe above the Alps. If something goes wrong in a fjord, like piece of a mountain falling of the side, it can cause an 80m high tsunami. That has happened and one mountain alongside a fjord is particularly dangerous.
Oslo is at risk of an earthquake, there's a fault line. Also happened before.

That's what the movies are bouncing off of.

The Last Samurai
I had forgotten how good it was. In the beginning I thought, nah, I want something with more action, but then got totally sucked into the Japanese way of life, discipline etc. I always love that!
Excellent movie! I did bawl my eyes out at the end.

I've enjoyed Noah Wyle's work ever since I saw him in E.R. Also like the 3 Librarian movies he did. I'd really like to see the TV series based on those movies. If I come across the complete collection box sets of either Falling Skies or The Librarians I'm going to pick them up.

Noah even played a Mob heavy in a rather good under the radar movie with Jeff Bridges called Scenes of the Crime. I gave it a 7 out of 10 rating.

He's quite the good actor indeed. I also liked the Librarian movies and the series. I believe there currently is doubt still it will be renewed or not, but I haven't checked up on it of late.
I have to say though that I like him best in his roll as Tom Mason in Falling Skies.
Nor sure if he also wrote the story, he did produce it.
And I think it gives a very accurate image of how things could and likely would go during such an event. Especially the upheaval when they reach Charleston where a new well organised community has been founded by a bunch of knucklehead with a superiority complex and no experience of fighting the aliens.
Especially that part I think would happen for real.
Oh well, let's hope it never happens and/or mankind has grown up by the time it does. And that the aliens to arrive will be Vulcans, interested in us as they've noticed we've evolved.

Well, the Vulcans from Enterprise were quite controlling and VERY restrictive compared to their TOS or TNG counterparts. I know the common wanted belief is that any species capable of space travel must be intelligent enough to be a peaceful one...I disagree.

Personally I believe that it would be more likely that they would be a group looking to colonize or searching for resources and be more like the aliens from the series "V", Independence Day or Battlefield Earth. Our only hope for survival is that our bacterial friends can play a part in our defense and make our planet too toxic for them.

Oh, I agree it doesn't have to mean a people like that has to be peaceful, but they at least have some more advanced form of civilisation, making the chances of them being reasonable and peaceful higher too.
And was not space travel, but warp speed.
Space travel may be a beginning, but we got there thanks to Nazi technology and when in the middle of the Cold War.
As it is now we are already working together more, with the ICS for instance.

Try the Scottish Police Series "Taggart" Crystal. Set in Glasgow, with more twists in the plot than a corkscrew.:sunglasses:

A common misbelief is that extraterrestrial species will have anything at all in common with us. From body styles to motives, value systems and morals.
Speculation based on assumptions means nothing.
A whale doesn't study pressure dynamics when it dives deep in the ocean and a bird doesn't study aerodynamics to fly in the sky.
Nobody know how alien an alien civilizaton will be until we actually contact one and make informed associations. Speculative fiction is entertainment, nothing more.

I liked the Jumanji films (and Zathura).

I disagree with you on this point. They would have to have some similarities if they were to show up as visitors.

1) They would have to be a land-based lifeform. Fire is a requirement for metallurgy and that would be a necessity for any space travel.

2) Although they would not have to be mammalian, they still would need to have a similar appendage make-up for sensitive creativity (circuit boards, fine detailed work, etc). Pincers, tentacles or wings just won't get the job done.

3) Bipedal locomotion is almost a necessity, or at least a non-prone form of movement where the lifeform would have a natural upright position.

Now if we are the explorers to discover them, and they are not space-faring, NONE of these restrictions apply.
