yeah, living on 300 cash and 300 food each month is like living in the 1% if you happen to have a flat screen or a phone .. or video games or a nice computer ...lol, unbelievable

doesnt matter if they worked and hit hard times, if they happen to have family or friends who dont want them feeling like they are pieces of CRAP that society treats them as and gets them some 'gifts' sometimes, doesnt matter if they had a partner or another source or non tax income that ended and they are struggling ... they dont deserve to have what 'working' folks have ....

Im sorry if this sounds rude but I have to ask?
Is English your first language?

how many people posted that its not about people hitting or experiencing hard times

None of us are speaking in tongues or Swahili right?

and THATS the ego problem that kills me. The assumption people have that they can know another persons situation in terms of their life and the 'things' that may be in it.

I can only go by what Ive seen, what other people have seen and witnessed, reported etc.

you may not have cheated when you were on welfare but others have.

yeah yeah, you want welfare recipients to enjoy the life we working people enjoy , I get it.

You're out on in left field picking daisies enjoying a few too many suds but hey whatever.

What you dont seem to grasp maybe its because of your disliking of the "orange one" is people on assistance shouldn't be living beyond their means, the assistance they get is for survival, basic survival

I dont see having a free phone as basic survival, access to the net as basic survival, a flat screen TV as basic survival, being able to save for vacation as basic survival

Ive seen people who live on meager wages that dont have flat screen TV, the up to date kick azz computer system let alone video games galore.

They live within their means, Ive seen people like that dont even have a computer they go the library and use one.

they are saving , scrimping by.

yet the welfare cheat lives like someone in the 1% crowd, B.S.

and thats in the nutshell, its about the idea that if they are on assistance, they are not as 'deserving' as the people who are not.

It's kind of sad, that people won't do the math.

Consider this.
Tonight, if you cook your dinner on a stove, instead of over a fire, you just made it into 32% of the richest people in the world.

If your water comes out of the faucet, instead of a well, you just needed into the top 28% of the richest people in the world.

If you have electric lights, instead of candles to illuminate your home, you just made it into the top 25% of the richest people in the world.

If you sleep on a bed, instead of a mat, you just made it into the top 21% of the richest people in the world.

If you have more than three pairs of shoes, you just made it into the top 17% of the richest people in the world.

If you have a roof over your head, even a leaky one, (and yes that includes our homeless people in shelters.) You just made it into the top 9% of the richest people in the world.

Everyone here has a computer, at least one TV, Internet service in their home, and at least a high school education.

Congratulations, you're in the top 5% of the richest people in the world.

And you're really complaining that someone might get something like you have? Really?

No wonder the rest of the world thinks all Americans are spoiled and rich.

how about everyone stop whinging about the choices they made not being the choices EVERYONE make ..
how bout dah?
yeah, fraud and abuse are problems, so is the insistence by some that there should be a restricted list on items that people on assistance can enjoy or be in possession of.

Because if you can afford those items you shouldn't need constant assistance.
If you need constant assistance you shouldn't have those items because you are surviving on charity.
You are NOT 'threadbare' which is why help is provided.
When you are no longer 'threadbare' you no longer need help.
To ignore that understanding is unreasonable.
To ignore the examples around us is delusional.

The problem with fraud exists.
Its not being fixed.
As long as it continues there will be conflict over it.
Ignoring the problem is not going to make it go away.

if you can afford what exactly?

a candy bar? Cause thats like a dollar. So a dollar should suffice to prevent you from needing assistance?

or how about video games that someone else GIVES you or that you get discounted five dollars a pop. could that five dollars support your needs instead?

and that is the issue for me, people need help before they get to 'threadbare' because once you are THREAD bare the further you have to go to get out .... ASsistance can help the 'thread bare' poor, but it can also assist people trying to avoid becoming 'thread bare' poor.

That is not why assistance exists.
Assistance exists to assist someone with basic living NEEDS until they can do it on their own.
In a lot of cases it works as intended.
The issue is about when there is no progress toward getting to a point where assistance is no longer needed.
The crutch becomes permanent.

A dollar by itself is not much. But a dollar times 5 is $5 and you can buy a significant selection of healthy food ingredients on $5.
You can even buy a candy mold and some almond bark for under $5 and make your own candy bars. If candy is a priority, which it isn't when assistance is NEEDED.

To avoid being threadbare poor,
Manage Your Life.

The USA has millions of examples of people managing their lives.

And as for those statistics.
INSIGNIFICANT
The USA IS a rich nation.
There is a reason why we are a rich nation.
Because, overall, we successfully manage our lives and seek out a higher standard of living.
Compared to a lot of the world of 7.5 Billion people we ARE thriving.
The very fact that we have programs like welfare is predicated on the fact that we are a thriving nation.
Our national lifestyle is higher than most countries on this planet.
Its unrealistic to compare our standard of living to an Outback Aborigines or jungle tribe.

Im not trying to be rude but that has to be the silliest argument Ive read to date, really?

you are comparing first world advanced societies to third and second world societies? Its like comparing the Canadian football league to the National football league

Good lord.

you do know or tell me you understand that free speaking societies are not the same as oppressive societies like Cuba, North Korea , China etc.

You do know that right? you cant compare.

Ever heard of PPP? (Purchasing Power Parity) if you dont take a microeconomics course first and then lets talk.

laugh whatevs ... Im done.

Thank you for providing an interesting and engaging thread.
But, tho you may be done, and give up, the rest of us might continue looking for a solution to the problem.
The thread has touched on a few pretty good ideas already.
It has identified some of the problems in the system as well.
While the discussion gets passionate sometimes that only means it is an active concern.
What would be bad is if everybody just gave up.

awww Miss harmony dont give up

fight for what you believe in, or do the Democrats just give up and run like Hillary and blame others.

I fight for what I believe in, I dont give up.

If you're giving up it means either we made our point or you see what is wrong with your point?

which is it?

So you know what all the rest of the world thinks of Americans and that they think we are all rich?

When did you become omnipotent?

Please refrain from speaking for the rest of the world for the simple fact you do not know what ALL the rest of the world thinks of America.

i believe it is the government who has restrictions on what or who qualifies for welfare .. ., but perhaps those restrictions are due for a review ... the onus is on the recipient to prove they are worthy. It will become harder for people to play the system .. that is a good thing bigsmile

Nothing to deal with.

And video(s) do not have the capability to lie or tell the truth , however people in the videos do.

That being said , people in videos and what they say doesn't constitute the whole world or even a tiny fraction for that matter.

Nor do blanket statements .

and believes even 'welfare' recipients are people who count and should have a voice, as opposed to merely being beholden like property to tax payers.

don't shoot the tax payers miss harmony .. where would welfare be without their input . I asked you what you were doing to help the welfare population but you did not answer .. which is your right . Of course ... It is great to have a passion but it takes more than a forum thread to bring about change . I seldom see any protests from beneficiaries .. any requests for bill or policy reforms ....why do you think that is ???? It is wonderful that you see the person miss harmony  but realism is also required .. rhe tax dollar is not an endless pot of gold.
