let me ask you this, I dont drink pop (soda as you Americans call it) my parents wouldn't allow pop in the house growing up , and as I got older I didn't drink pop either, we drank water, milk, juice (pure stuff) not Tropicana crap

do you think my parents were cruel by not allowing Pop and certain junk food in the house?

no. I think that was their perogative.

3 pretty healthy kids, healthy parents and grandparents

None of us does drugs including pot, and all social drinkers, I would say my parents have done a pretty damn good job yes?

Including teaching us how to be independent from an early age, Welfare would never be an option.

But I understand welfare for some is the last resort and those people Im more than glad to help, the ones that believe welfare is the first choice and only choice I say to HELL WITH THEM.

I dont judge people's financial situations. I care more about how they treat other people and how they carry themself. But to each their own.

Living on welfare is a poor character, when a person can get work.
Also they are not treating people right, by taking from hard working tax payers.

nothing crazy about it, treating people right has nothing to do with how bills are getting paid, and more about how we value others as much as ourselves or as much as we would want to be valued ...

the food card is intended for GROCERY costs, nowhere does it designate that a food be 'healthy' or non healthy. it is up to the parents with the grocery cost, like any other parent with grocery cost.

If a kid is not ONLY eating junk, who cares if they also have some treats in their home. Seriously.... people, this thread makes me more and more worried about the condition of the human soul .... petty, selfish, heartless, judgmental ... and over children and s the most needy amongst us too

good grief, Jesus wept
you wouldn't be judging others would you harmony

plus , I dont think Jesus would be too happy with the welfare cheats, and able bodied people collecting welfare defrauding the system.

I also doubt he would be happy with actual FRAUDS, as to people in need getting help, I think he would encourage it ...

I dont think Jesus would be to happy seeing Teams like the New Jersey Devil or Arizona state sun devils either.

I wonder if he would be okay with the New Orleans saints or Anaheim Angels baseball.

Fraud is not a myth. AS stated at least half a dozen times by me, it happens in EVERY system.

In the US, our means tested programs go by size of household (family that will receive benefits) and income, not by how many people live with you as roommates ...

I also dont idolize images, again, I find valuing actual humans more significant.

Hmmm, I was on assistance before, with a family and by myself.
While I was on assistance, I adjusted my lifestyle to bare necessities.
We made homemade snacks, drank koolaid, watched broadcast TV.
We also turned off lights, washed up with cool water, kept our utility bills as low as possible.
When I needed assistance for basic living expenses I experienced basic living.
It wasn't a ticket to splurge. It was survival.
It made me work even harder at earning my own way and removing the need for assistance. I didn't live close to family and they couldn't and shouldn't need to support my family so I had to crawl out on my own.

As I made more and more money I was able to afford things most people take for granted. A nice car, satellite TV, going to the movies, fairs and having nice things. While on assistance, I didn't feel it was right to splurge since it wasn't my earned money I needed to spend. Maybe I'm just weird.

Now, I am on disability and I make less that 1/5 of what I made when I was able to work. I am living off the money I already earned. I had to again ajust my living standards to reflect my income. Yet, I live comfortably because I made enough money while I was working to get enough benefit to exceed assistance standards. I'm pretty happy about that.

The only assistance I wish I had is medicaid. Medicare costs are stupid high on fixed income. Luckily, I served my country and have a benefit of VA healthcare (for what its worth).

All in all, I don't have a problem with people needing and using assistance. I have a problem with people not needing and getting or abusing assistance.

If you are sporting fine jewerly, a big screen TV, 4 phones with service plans, eating steak, twinkies and going to the gym. If you have 3 cars and one job, spend your days sleeping and your nights partying and your children dress in rags. You should not be on assistance.
