Do you enjoy going to social Gatherings? or do you absolutely dread going.?
.. I don't mind going to social events where they're going to be people I know.. have a history with.. But I find I do not like going to social gatherings with people I do not know.. I get very anxious about attending such events.. sometimes we'll look for any excuse not to go.. Am I alone with my dislike of social gatherings..?.. Hate making small talk.. My life is not that exciting not much conversation there... Do you have any.. suggestions on how to overcome going to social gatherings.. Or is it okay not to want to go.. |

ell, if it's not a business work thing and you don't have to go, don't go. Why put yourself through that kind of stress. If it's a work thing talk about work. If it's a family thing ask about family.

what??? you're not a social butterfly?
hahaa..I hate that kind of scene always have always will oh once in awhile I will sit and observe to analize body language what is being said and what is not being said if it's a family get together I tended to flock to one or two family members, sit and chat and was content to have a one on one convo instead of circulating the room |

So I guess what could help decide to go would be an honest evaluation of how much benefit could be achieved while not over exaggerating the negative fears. Sometimes the only reason to go is to avoid missing out on opportunities that may appear. If none do then at least you know. But then again there's always a chance to put a smile on your face or an others. |

I enjoy terror, death hate and sin

I enjoy them less and less as time goes by, and will often opt out, if there isn't a significant reason, I should go.
I don't feel guilty anymore, if I don't want to do something and I don't have to - I just don't. |

The anxiety I get keeps me very quiet. I don't do small talk very well, and a lot of times cause me social blunders.

Hi, I am originally from Ukraine but live in Canada for a long time. I also lived in Cuba. So, let me share my own experience with you. My observation is based firstly on cultural difference as well as geographic location. So before moving to Canada I lived in Cuba. I never experienced so much acceptance and love before. So, I would say that Cuba was so far one of the best places where I had very little anxiety when going to anything social. Actually after 2 years I was looking forward to go out. But it all changed when we moved to Canada. I find that people are distant, words sensitive, closed minded and very uncomfortable with each other. You are not alone feeling anxious, it is the north America thing...I've got this bug too, you know after living here for so long. But at least I know that it can be different.

I used to love them for the chance to make new friends and meet interesting people. Nowadays all the interesting people are sitting at home chatting on the internet.

It depends, for me. Events with rules and expectations for me to adhere to, uh-uh. Done with those.
Events where it's entirely up to me, how to dress, behave, and decide to bug out, great. Last such event, was the drag races in D C on Halloween. No requirements for me to do anything but show up, hang around until I felt like going home, and then go. |

I'm all for
"bringing hate to a social gathering". BYOH! Some parties just need a little ice breaker to get things started. |

I don't mind meeting folks if it is something I can go to in a t-shirt and blue jeans. I don't mind most stuff where I can dress like that. If it is a dress up kind of deal I just don't go. Of course there are exceptions. But very few. That is who I am and if others have a problem with it, then it is not my problem and I can not care any less. I can only be me. If I try to be something else it would be fake and not go well.

I'm the designated fifth wheel and apparently only good to hang out with in small doses.

I don't enjoy social gatherings also. I am a semi introvert, if I have to go to a social event I usually say my howdy-do's and then quietly sneak out. I f I have to stay for whatever reason I try to find a corner or wall to lean against and just observe. But in my dreams I'm the lady with the lampshade on her head dancing on top of the table belting out a Stevie Nicks tune
