It happened a couple times that I got a message from someone that had a really nice profile text, the kind that appeals to me.
But then you get messages in English that is (slightly) off.
Now I assume that the average American would come up with what could be considered normal English, but maybe I'm wrong.
Is it safe to say that messages in somewhat weird English are scam?
Can't really give an example without copy/pasting here. But at first glance it appears to be normal English, on second thought, phrasing and some of the words are unusual and tenses sometimes wrong as well.
I'm assuming if native speakers get things wrong, it's usually typical spelling mistakes, but I could be wrong, hence my question.
Advice?

I'm not interested in talking to anyone who writes "in a weird way"- poor spelling of basic words, referring to me as "dear" and "honey" when they don't know me, etc. etc. etc. no matter where they're from, so I don't know what to tell you.

However, yeah, I've noticed that a lot of spammers have a hard time phrasing things well because English isn't their native language, so it might be a red flag. Or you might just be getting mails from illiterates, who knows....

Maybe English isn't their first language. If that's the case, I give them props because I don't speak other languages

I had a couple of messages last week that were good English but then some words were not used correctly. I asked if he was a scammer and I have not heard back Yet.laugh

Using words in the wrong tense is a dead give away for me. Along with improper uses of predicates. Then again, I'm from Texas, what the h e double toothpicks did I knew?!

Hey crystalflowerforyou So.... If I were you, I wouldn't bother responding... but that's just my opinion. It seems that every time I receive a message like that..... they end up being a scammer or a guy looking to marry me because I'm his one true lovenoway On the other hand, there are many Americans who purposely use the wrong tenses. Usually the younger crowd.. I for one made sure to not get in that habit when growing up... IDK it's a bit confusing. I guess as long as they aren't trying to marry you...... You'll be fine:laughing:

Hahahaha, well, it ain't exactly like that, Lonelyman, lol.

It is a tricky one, ain't it. Think I'm gonna let it slide. Read somewhere in another thread that sometimes ppl copy/paste someone else's profile text and/or from another dating site.
He did throw in his Yahoo stuff as well, so I'm simply gonna assume this one is yet another scammer.

Thx for the feedback y'all

Im Scottish and it takes me all my time to keep Glasgow slang out of my messages or no one would understand them. I've had a couple of messages that started ok then turned into some weird thing halfway through it! Mingle should be better at spotting scammers though and booting them off here!

Yeah, but that's different. shades
I watched "The Full Monty" without subtitles, lol. I can also understand "Once Upon a Time"'s Rumplestiltskin (Mr Full Monty Robert Carlyle)

Which reminds me of that clip, David Tennant & Catherine Tate, lol

The full monty was filmed in Sheffield, Crystal, which is in England. My Scottish accent is very strong, as I live so close to Glasgow. Theres accents in different areas all over the UK, but the west of Scotland 1 like mines is the strongest. Watch shows like Taggart, Still Game and Rab C Nesbitt and you'll see where im coming from?

Oh, I was just having some fun, boohooo... I know when push comes to shove I more than likely won't be able to understand a thing they say in Scotland. But I will find out one day, cos Scotland is nr 1 on my list of places to go. Been wanting to go there for yonks, always appealed to me. In the past just getting there was way to costly, but these days it's affordable.
ANd don't tell me you don't like that clip with Catherine Tate!?!

Yeah the youtube link I posted earlier.

Taggart don't seem to be too hard, the Rab C Nesbitt is more of a challenge, lol
One way or another reminded me of Royston Vasey, League of Gentlemen. Been a while since I seen that, but also a vague series

OMG going horrible off-topic in my own topic shades

:) Well, it is a bit flat, but that does have its advantages too, haha.
Scottish and Ajax, is that asking for trouble?
Not too up to date with footy, do know things can get out of hand.

Nah, me and my m8s follow Celtic all over Europe Crystal. We only go to support them, not to fight rival fans like some other teams supporters do. I worked in Munster, Germany before and me and my m8s used to go for nights out in Amsterdam and Rotterdam. Miss all that!
