Lol so you don't know your own ancestry?
The Ulster Scots (Irish: Ultais) are an Irish ethnic group from Ireland, mostly the Ulster region, and are predominantly citizens of what is now Northern Ireland.
Ulster Scots or Ulster-Scots (UlstοΏ½r-Scotch) generally refers to the dialects of Scots spoken in parts of Ulster in Ireland

I'm from an island .Jamaica to be exact ,god knows our ENGLISH is far from perfect, but don't feel its safe to say 'since a person have bad English that automatically put them into the scamming bucket .

Yeah, it is a bit tricky to make bad English a rule for scammers.
But this guy sounded more like a non-native speaker trying to be eloquent and being rather good at it too.
Thing is, whilst reading the brain tends to overlook mistakes. If you were to remove the vowels, you'd still be able to read it without a problem. So I had to read it a couple of times with my "teacher eye", to notice something was off.
That's what got me thinking, maybe he's dyslectic? Or a German in the US or something, haha

Oh well, I didn't reply and he didn't send another message. Had he truly been interested he probably would have.

Hmmm,,,, would've thought men to be somewhat more tenacious if they were truly interested ...

I agree with you Crystal, I kept blowing this one guy off for months. He kept trying and I liked that about him. Persistent yet respectful. Point is if men are truly interested, they'll take that extra mile.

It happened a couple times that I got a message from someone that had a really nice profile text, the kind that appeals to me.
But then you get messages in English that is (slightly) off.
Now I assume that the average American would come up with what could be considered normal English, but maybe I'm wrong.
Is it safe to say that messages in somewhat weird English are scam?
Can't really give an example without copy/pasting here. But at first glance it appears to be normal English, on second thought, phrasing and some of the words are unusual and tenses sometimes wrong as well.
I'm assuming if native speakers get things wrong, it's usually typical spelling mistakes, but I could be wrong, hence my question.
Advice?

That happened to me. Its a scam, it was someone from Africa begging for my email address. Personaly I either ignore them or tell them to phuck off

On a completely offtopic note; did you see Sullivan Stapleton, SGT. Scott in Strikeback, is playing the lead role in the sequel to 300?

Nah, me and my m8s follow Celtic all over Europe Crystal. We only go to support them, not to fight rival fans like some other teams supporters do. I worked in Munster, Germany before and me and my m8s used to go for nights out in Amsterdam and Rotterdam. Miss all that!

Here was me hoping the name 'Larsson' meant that you were Scandinavian!

You must be loving Neymar the day? That was as good as Rivaldo's 'hit by ball on the the legs and go down holding my face' special.

Its dull in the 3rd tier, so ive switched to F1 lol

Thanks for the info Crystal! No I do not know much about my ancestors on my father's side. I only know that my last name is Mitchell and my mother's maiden name was Hicks.

Gotta admit it is a bit confusing: Scots in Northern Ireland?? Must be quite a hotchpotch up there
Stew, haggis, steak & kidney pies. I think I'll stick with the Yorkshire pudding, at least I can make that myself and enjoy eating it too! Suddenly I'm thinking crumpets. Yummy! Getting hungry now tongue2

Think we can better rename this topic "Crystal's offtopic chatterbox"

The title of this thread is misleading.

A scammer who uses poor English isn't necessarily a resident of the USA.

I was trying to find out about poor English among Americans, which probably includes a lot of ppl who haven't been born in the States. Meaning they might be for real, but use/speak English that isn't totally correct.
