Paying taxes is contributing.

working is also contributing,,,,without workers, there are no profits, without profit there is no business, without business there is no ECONOMY

EXACTLY,therefore, if there is a high rate of unemployment, there cannot be anyone paying taxes to support the "government programs"..

aka, the "taxpayers programs".

taxes dont start back at zero every year,,,,noone can personally track where their tax funds from 2006 are going in 2009,,,the argument is a lazy thinkers smokescreen,,,

what we do now is there is a federal government that is accumulated from TAXPAYERS, and that not every penny any taxpayer pays to that budget PERSONALLY benefits them in that SAME year they pay it

but , out of the LIFETIME of taxes people will pay working in AMerica,, they will be contributing to the budget which alots for a SAFETY NET for some of those same people to fall back upon when they are NOT working,,,,

What do you make, maybe 250 a week??? out of that how much is going to pay the "government " funds you are so fond of??? Keep feeding the kitty little girl, you will be out of a job and homeless too and wondering where your hand out is....OMGfrustrated

let me explain it more clearly,, nothing to do with lala land, more to do with THINKING THINGS THROUGH logically instead of emotionally

If I pay, say 500 per year in the country of FAIR (this is an ANALOGY) for a budget that sustains the citizens of that country

and part of that BUDGET is a SAFETY NET allotment,,, part of that FIVE HUNDRED I paid the past,,,TWENTY YEARS, (lets say 65 dollars per year, which is equivalent to the 13 percent safety net the BUDGET PROVIDES FOR ITS CITIZENS WITH ITS CITIZENS MONEY) is used in that safety net

that means I paid, over 20 years, 1300 dollars for a safety net I have yet to actually NEED OR USE

then lets say, something happens where I cannot pay into the safety net for a few years

GUESS WHAT, if I have BEEN paying into it BEFORE, it is supposed to be there for me when I NEED IT.....

households call it a rainy day fund, everyone pitches in on the chance something may 'come up' and then when something does 'come up
',, everyone who had been pitching in all those times it came up for other members of the household is equally able to look to that same fund ,,,,,

I am in favor of no hand outs what so ever and trading work for food. For instance, I can build you cabinets for your kitchen and you can pay me a fair wage, This is called "Earning your keep". IF you do not work, you do not eat. Simple....

I got this idea from my Grandpa, who came here to the US from Poland. He learned the English language and built things for people back in 1923. There was no "welfare" handouts. So he had to work to survive.

Government is too big and makes us think we need them, we don't. I bet if I was your neighbor and needed to make money, I could do yard work and ironing , house cleaning for you to supplement my income. Neat concept isn't it????? Work for pay??????explode

this reminds me of the famous quote by a kings wife, who upon being informed people had no bread to eat, came up with the solution to 'let them eat cake'

if only they had CAKE to eat, but someone with cake cant grasp the reality that people could possibly not find 'cake'

the same is true of 'work'

'supplement' an income requires a primary source of income in the first place

many people dont have that NOR the person who will give them the opportunity to 'work for pay' in a position requiring one person but for which a dozen or more people are applying to,,,,

In Florida, people receiving cash assistance through welfare have had to pay for their own drug tests since July, and enrollment has shrunk to its lowest levels since the start of the recession.

Many states have already established ways to prevent people with known drug problems from receiving benefits — about 20 states prohibit unemployment payments for anyone who lost a job because of drug use, and more than a dozen states refuse welfare payments to anyone convicted of a drug felony.

This year, 36 states considered drug testing for recipients of cash assistance from the major welfare program, Temporary Assistance for Needy Families, according to the National Conference of State Legislatures; 12 states proposed it for unemployment insurance; and some also considered making it a requirement for food stamps, home heating assistance and other programs.

At the same time, a number of cities, including Chicago and Flint, Mich., considered drug testing public housing residents. There have also been proposals in Congress for nationwide testing of welfare recipients.

The law in Florida, where the average recipient receives $253 a month for less than five months, is more expansive. It requires applicants to pay for their own drug tests, which the state says costs up to $40, and the state will reimburse those who pass. People who fail the test are disqualified for one year — six months if they receive treatment — and are reported to the Florida abuse hot line. Payments to children can continue through another person, like a grandparent.

A decline in the number of applicants appears to have accelerated since the testing started, according to a spokesman for the Florida Department of Children and Families.
