Does anyone know where the need for blood sacrifice originated from? Animal and human sacrifices have been used for offerings and atonement for sins in many religions. Where did this idea come from?

Nobody may ever know exactly when, but according to the Bible, God wanted it. 1 The LORD called to Moses and spoke to him from the tent of meeting. He said, 2 “Speak to the Israelites and say to them: ‘When anyone among you brings an offering to the LORD, bring as your offering an animal from either the herd or the flock. (Leviticus 1:1-2)NIV

Thank you. This is pretty much what I thought. I wonder where the idea first came from. I guess we will never know.

Yes, according to the Bible it was God's idea. I tend to believe this, but I know the more "scientific" posters might think there is another origin.

Oh please, it's not like I'm gonna serve it raw. The sacrifice is always cooked up before serving.

Blood Sacrifices?

Over 20,000 years ago.

The Aboriginals partook in Sacrifices to appease the Gods of the 'New islands'.

They did such in case they were 'violating' sacred ground when they crossed from Asia into the Americas (via Canada).

Some odd years later, the Indians still did rituals and sacrifices, so I believe it is safe to say, they HAD been doing such for centuries long before the white man discovered them, via Columbus.

While you may believe it originated in the Bible, I highly doubt it.

The Indians knew nothing of Christ, Christian Gods, nor the Bible in those days.

Also.

The Egyptians did sacrifices, whether via the Bull or Humans.
Sudan, Africa - 5,500 years ago they were doing sacrifices.

So, no, I don't believe the Christian God was the first to demand 'said' sacrifices.

Because basic knowledge of times prior to indicate otherwise.

..just imo.

New King James Version (NKJV)

21 Thus says the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel: “Add your burnt offerings to your sacrifices and eat meat. 22 For I did not speak to your fathers, or command them in the day that I brought them out of the land of Egypt, concerning burnt offerings or sacrifices. 23 But this is what I commanded them, saying, ‘Obey My voice, and I will be your God, and you shall be My people. And walk in all the ways that I have commanded you, that it may be well with you.’

The prophets actually condemm sacrifices numerous times. Keep looking, I bet you find at least 10...

Plus, there's the one line I used to dispell your long list of effed-up "laws". --- Lying pens of the scribes...

And then there's the passage that says not to worship "God" the way the heathens do...

My mistake, you did.

..well, in some form then, yes, but I'm not so sure if it was the Christian God it originated from.
