Question: "How is Satan god of this world (2 Corinthians 4:4)?"
Answer: The phrase “god of this world” (or “god of this age” [NKJV]) indicates that Satan is the major influence on the mind-set expressed by the ideals, opinions, goals, hopes and views of the majority of people. His areas of influence also encompass the world’s philosophies, education, and commerce. The thoughts, ideas, speculations and false religions of the world are under his control and have sprung from his lies and deceptions. Similar titles are found elsewhere in Scripture concerning Satan. Satan is called the "prince of the power of the air" in Ephesians 2:2. He is called the "ruler of this world" in John 12:31. These titles, and many more attributed to Satan throughout Scripture, signify his capabilities. To say, for example, that Satan is the "prince of the power of the air" is to signify that in some way he rules over the world and the people in it. This is not to say that he rules the world completely; only God does this. But it does mean that God, in His infinite wisdom, has allowed Satan to operate in this world (within the boundaries God has set for him) and has allowed Satan to operate with an agenda. When the Bible says Satan has power over the world, it must be made clear that God has given him domain over unbelievers alone. Believers are no longer under the rule of Satan (Colossians 1:13). Unbelievers, on the other hand, are caught "in the snare of the devil" (2 Timothy 2:26), lie in the "power of the evil one" (1 John 5:19), and are in bondage to Satan (Ephesians 2:2). So, when the Bible says that Satan is the "god of this world," it is not saying that he has ultimate authority. It is conveying the idea that Satan rules over the unbelieving world in a specific way. In the case of 2 Corinthians 4:4, the unbeliever follows Satan's agenda. According to 2 Corinthians 4:4, the "god of this world has blinded the minds of unbelievers, so that they cannot see the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ." Satan's agenda includes pushing a false philosophy onto the unbelieving world—a false philosophy that blinds the unbeliever from the truth of the Gospel. Satan’s philosophies are the fortresses in which people are imprisoned, needing to be set free and brought captive to Christ in obedience to the truth. An example of a false philosophy might be a belief that man can earn God's favor by a certain act or acts. In fact, earning eternal life is a predominate theme around the world. Earning God's favor by works, however, is contrary to biblical revelation. Man cannot work to earn God's favor; eternal life is a free gift (see Ephesians 2:8- 9). And that free gift is available through Jesus Christ and Him alone (John 3:16; 14:6). You may ask why does mankind simply not receive the free gift that enables them to truly be called children of God (John 1:12)? The answer is that Satan—the god of this world— pushes a false philosophy onto the world. Satan sets the agenda, the unbelieving world follows, and mankind continues to be deceived. It is no wonder that Scripture calls Satan a liar (John 8:44). gotquestions.org |

Cowboy, satan is the "god of this world". or "ruer of this world"....same difference. I am kindy asking that you FIRST do a study in The Word BEFORE responding to my posts from now on..... Thank You . Satan is not referred to ruler or God of this planet. What are you talking about? 2 Corinthians 4:4 4In whom the god of this world hath blinded the minds of them which believe not, lest the light of the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine unto them. No reference whatsoever to Satan. That is why one must first put forth the faith and there eyes will be opened to the glories of our Father. Before the first action of putting faith into God, they will not see nor be shown anything. God isn't handing eternal life over on a silver platter anymore. |

Like believing in "eternal torment in hell" Or believing in a human sacrifice for attonement for sins. Or believeing the pagan triune god concept. Or incorporating pagan myths into the Bible. Or the forced belief of "only born again people are saved". And yet you continue to be deceived... |

Do a study: "who is the god of this world" One last itme..I would appreciate it very much if you do NOT respond to my posts, UNTIL you Do a THOROUGH study. Thank you kindly. Jesus's father is God of this world, not Satan. God is over all things... Not just this world. The 'god-of-this-world' is not God nor is it 'satan'... It is the focusing by men upon the material things of the earth. When one focused upon the small one 'misses the heavenly glory' and is therefor blind to the full reality of God. In other words we blind ourselves when we do not rely first on 'God' and then upon the worldly things we have gained dominion over. |

Yes very true, God is god over everything, just this specific discussion was from MsHarmony mentioning Satan being the god of this world. Which as far as I am aware, Satan has not been given that position. Only God the father is God over this world... and everything else of course. It is the focusing by men upon the material things of the earth. It can be if one allows material things to have that much control over them. No need to directly answer, but since you mentioned this I must ask... are material things of this Earth your God? |

"Satan" as a concept does indeed have dominion from time to time in lands ruled by men.
It depends upon a persons choices. As with the Beast, Satan exists within the spectrum of the individual human. When you give to anger your hate then rises the Beast within you (and you do beastly acts). When you give to others an evil, then rises 'satan' within you (and you reap worldly rewards for a time). Yet when you give all glory to God. Then rises up also god in those you meet. some in large measure and some in small. For God is greater than this world and the next. |

Scriptures that clearly show that satan is not in
hell ,but is actually walking around, seeking whom he may devour : 1 Peter 5:8 (ESV) 8 Be sober-minded; be watchful. Your adversary the devil prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour. Ephesians 2:2 (ESV) 2 in which you once walked, following the course of this world, following the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that is now at work in the sons of disobedience— Ephesians 6:13 (ESV) 13 Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand firm Matthew 4:1 (ESV) 4 Then Jesus was led up by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted by the devil. Matthew 4:3 (ESV) 3 And the tempter came and said to him, “If you are the Son of God, command these stones to become loaves of bread.” Matthew 4:10 (ESV) 10 Then Jesus said to him, “Be gone, Satan! For it is written, “ ‘You shall worship the Lord your God and him only shall you serve 1 Thessalonians 3:5 (ESV) 5 For this reason, when I could bear it no longer, I sent to learn about your faith, for fear that somehow the tempter had tempted you and our labor would be in vain. 2 Corinthians 4:4 (ESV) 4 In their case the god of this world has blinded the minds of the unbelievers, to keep them from seeing the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God. Revelation 12:7–9 (ESV) 7 Now war arose in heaven, Michael and his angels fighting against the dragon. And the dragon and his angels fought back, 8 but he was defeated, and there was no longer any place for them in heaven. And the great dragon was thrown down, that ancient ... Job 1:6 (ESV) 6 Now there was a day when the sons of God came to present themselves before the Lord, and Satan also came among them. Romans 16:20 (ESV) 20 The God of peace will soon crush Satan under your feet. The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you. |

Mark 12:28-34 King James Version (KJV) 28And one of the scribes came, and having heard them reasoning together, and perceiving that he had answered them well, asked him, Which is the first commandment of all? 29 And Jesus answered him, The first of all the commandments is, Hear, O Israel; The Lord our God is one Lord: 30 And thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind, and with all thy strength: this is the first commandment. 31 And the second is like, namely this, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. There is none other commandment greater than these. 32 And the scribe said unto him, Well, Master, thou hast said the truth: for there is one God; and there is none other but he: 33 And to love him with all the heart, and with all the understanding, and with all the soul, and with all the strength, and to love his neighbour as himself, is more than all whole burnt offerings and sacrifices. 34 And when Jesus saw that he answered discreetly, he said unto him, Thou art not far from the kingdom of God. And no man after that durst ask him any question. |
