Most voters continue to support immigration status checks on routine traffic stops and favor strict sanctions on employers who give illegal immigrants jobs.

A new Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey finds that 61% of Likely Voters agree that if a police officer pulls someone over for a traffic violation, the officer should automatically check to see if that person is in the country legally. Thirty percent (30%) disagree. (To see survey question wording, click here.)

The national survey of 1,000 Likely Voters nationwide was conducted on January 17-18, 2012 by Rasmussen Reports. The margin of sampling error is +/- 3 percentage points with a 95% level of confidence.

If a person is "Legal", they have no worries. Being RESPONSIBLE, means being legal. RESPONSIBLE people of INTEGRITY are who wrote the CONSTITUTION. Everyone should read that document every year & REALIZE how this country is supposed to be. Borders are open to ALL who want to be LEGAL. Ask the people who have done it right.

As i have stated many of times.I do understand the problems with immigration,but they aren't really the problem.Technically it's the country they are coming from that's the problem.

I dont support so much the idea of checks left to the officers discretion, mostly because I dont understand what criteria would qualify for reasonable suspicion of not being documented,,,

So hypothetically say my great, great, great , great, Grandfather was one of those people. Does that mean I should have to pay for his mistakes in today's world? That was a different time, the variables of life were all different.

I agree with Ms, as long as it was protocol to check everyone.

It doesn't take any longer to produce verification of citizenship than it does to produce and have ready your driver's license and insurance verification.

None of this would be necessary if they just started fining businesses $100,000 per illegal worker..
