None of this would be necessary if they just started fining businesses $100,000 per illegal worker..

Every country including Ireland turns on the foreigners when it hurts in their pockets.

Everyone turns a blind eye when things are good.

Look above you folks...not below...

The people you are dissing are worse off than you and just because you cannot be one of the 1% do not take it out on those that are less well off.

its not a matter of turning on foreigners, this country has millions of them that have come here LEGALLY

its about expecting them to respect the laws, the same as we do any other citizen, and an ability to make sure they are accounted for and therefore REPRESENTED

those who are hiding can hardly be represented,,but noone sees that side of it,,,,,for some reason,,,

documents are a part of life in a culture with hundreds of millions, it protects people from being invisible AND it makes sure people have some SINCERE and tangible connection to the US besides just sneaking back and forth for fun or money,,,

I agree.

Random traffic stops have been made to check for driver's liscenses because of the number of people who break the law.

Random traffic stops have been made to check for DWI because of the number of people who break the law.

Now, random traffic stops are being considered to check for illegal status because of the number of people who break the law ... and make no bones about it, being in the country illegally is a crime and a danger to the driving public. The police are there to enforce the law.

Well said & direct to the point.

Except this 'random' stop will be those of us with dark hair, eyes and skin...interesting to note this would be middle eastern and hispanic.

That was happening in the UK some years ago but we are ahead of the US in this respect and this practice has more or less stopped.

For supposedly civilized countries to operate like this in the 21st century is mind boggling.

Racism and Greed seem to go hand-in-hand

have you been an immigrant ENTERING the UK, I have

trust me, they are just as protective of their borders,,,,

msharmony's photo
Fri 01/20/12 07:20 PM

How is our border still not 100% secure? Get the Mexican cartel drug dealers out of my country. They are the real terrorists.

nothing is 100 percent secure

if you dont believe me, ask the opponents of immigration law and enforcement to take the door off of their house and just let everyone in,, instead of looking down on them for eeking out a place to live,,,,

I second that praise! Hit the problem at the source, they wouldn't be here illegally if there was no reason. I saw this a lot at an oil company in New Mexico I worked security for part time. LOL, yes I did security. Remember this was while living in New Mexico, I had a gun, not pepper spray and a flashlight!

Anyway, there were a lot of illegals in the oilfield. But I will say one positive thing about illegals, they send a large portion of their check back to their family in Mexico.

Italian, Puerto Rican, Partial Asian, Am. Indian, Greeks can be dark, Islanders, Indian (India), Vietnamese there are many more that have darker skin, hair and eyes

Yea, there are lots of other dark..I'm a dark white girl myself.
Most won't be confused with mexican and middleastern.

I'm seeing cops single out a 'potential terrorist' ~ middle eastern, and Mexicans...that IS the border everyone talks about in the numerous threads on the subject.

But that would be quite an assumption for me.. to think the cops or society in general would encourage this sort of racial profiling...
now wouldn't it!

Ummm,I don't thinks so. They can only pull over for an infraction of the law. If then pulled over all should have to verify citizenship anyways. Thereby, targeting illegals. Personally, it's my belief the insane, heretics, and terrorists come in many colors skin, hair and eye color.

Ummm, well good to know in your town the cops follow the rules.
I have know cops who drive through parking lots and run tags...just cause they can, so I'm quite sure that SOME cops will abuse their power and if only one does then that is one too many.

Personally I believe congress are our terrorists...

This has been going on for eons and the last few years that 'we' are in a money pinch, all of a sudden 'we' care.
Nobody cared when the illegals were here picking the oranges and apples for 5 bucks less an hour than 'us'.

Money is tight..hmmmm

Do you understand how big the wheel is, how complicated?...It takes time to turn....And PS...I have cared about illegal entry for as long as I can remember...probably longer than you have lived....It is NOT about the money...How many recessions have you lived through, how many depressions?

Thank you for assuming I'm so young....flowerforyou

I have cared about the well being of
my fellow humans as far back as I can remember.

I didn't assume, twelve years younger is young to me...flowerforyou

So you were concerned about immigration when you were 12?
I was concerned about my fellow humans when I was 12.

The beauty of uniqueness ....Yes, at 12 I was made aware...my parents talked politics at the dinner table....every nightwhoa : ....like the sponges all children are, my siblings and I soaked it up....

Yes, I remember the dinner time conversations myself.
I only soaked up what resonated with me, even at the tender age of 12 I knew people were more important than the politics.

The beauty of uniqueness indeed.

The problem with your response to me is that it seems to come without aforethought...when did I ever say I feel politics precede people in level of importance ?...Are you saying I cannot care about people if I am interested in politics?

I can't say how you feel about anything, I can only go by what you post.

All of your posts have been about the rules, the laws, the politics...
'lets talk about our own sons and daughters first'

You seem to see illegals as not as important as 'us'.
I see ALL humans important, much more than any rules.

The topic IS about the complications illegals create in my country, not humanitarian responsibilities to the needy!....

As I said..the complications from illegals were not any concern until the deficit became such an issue. Not everyone is aware at 12. Honestly, NO ONE else cared before.

Allowing the corrupt cops to detain drivers (if they happen to not have proof of citizenship) rough them up, impound their cars, take their children into protective custody...
the concerns over illegals crosses over into humanitarian concerns.
The 2 issues can not be separated. If we only look at the legal implications we neglect the human side.

I do not agree with you, concern about the problems of illegal immigration did not begin with the latest recession....

All "cops" are not corrupt....

If proper paperwork can be presented, as with a drivers license or proof of auto insurance, unless the person stopped is breaking another law, these things you state will not happen...

Lastly, the two issues can be separated for several specific reasons, specific circumstances....What you say would lead one to believe that you feel no one should be questioned for any reason because they are human beings...This is beyond comprehension...We must deal with the problems of illegal immigration for a myriad of reasons...Money is only one of those reasons and it does not head the list...

Yea ok Leigh...

Cops NEVER abuse their power. laugh

You win, I'm speechless.

This was never a contest, not for me anyway...You and I see things differently is all....and there is nothing wrong with that....if my words about something I consider important are taken out of context by you or anyone else, I will do my best to clarify...Like this for example...I did not say cops never abuse their power, they do...I said "all" cops are not corrupt...

I would like to meet these not corrupt cops, seriously I would cause I don't know any..

'lets talk about our own sons and daughters first'
makes your point very clear, i understand.

You are so off base with this statement...I will not let you spin my words to suit your agenda because you have a chip on your shoulder..."Our own sons and daughters" meaning those of every US citizens, every legal citizen Ladylid...

Because we don't agree doesn't mean I have a chip any where and
I'm not spinning your words, I understand. I already posted...
we are ALL one, I don't differentiate between legal or illegal,
american or human. Most people agree that we need to take care
of things 'at home first'.

My agenda? My agenda is voicing the unfairness I see in this proposal...it has nothing to do with you, personally.

Sorry flowerforyou

I understand you mean all US citizens....

Maybe that is the problem....I do and you don't....I am going to give you 13 reasons/examples why I differentiate...In return will you give me only five explaining why you do not...And you cannot use we are all human as one...fair enough?

1....Population control...

One cant take the absurd views of a few folks seriously Optomistic. I have seen little logic and few well thought out posts by these hysterical shrills.

Their responces are best described as pavlovian as in pavlovs dogs.

Its fairly predictable how they will respond to any topic of the day, simply expect a blind repitition of the talking points of the far right or 1%.

Any topic and conversation that has some intelectual merrit is soon debased by them.

How I long for an ignore feature to this forum.

I should have made it clear in my post that it was only a few people that I was addressing.

Strangely enough it is those very few who accuse me of disliking America.

I will be more careful not to fall into their trap in future.

Thank you for pointing this out to me.

I know that the vast majority of Americans are decent honest and truthful people its just unfortunate we have to deal with a vociferous minority.

I would again like to add my thanks to the moderators on this site, they are very fair-minded.

These people are runnin over here to this country because their country is pathetic.Theres no social reform, the Mexican government doesn't give a crap about it's people. These people are coming here primarly for a better life,Kudos to the ones that do that. The problem is the MEXICAN GOVERNMENT.That country is mostly slums and the people are opressed and scared of the drug cartels.Hell the Mexican Government wants us to help them with the drug cartel problems.I know people are gonna be "Rob why are you typing just about the immigrants being mexican" come on any idiot knows it's primarly the mexican immigrants that seems to be the problem.

The moral of the story is the US Government and Mexico need to work something out.Putting more pressure on our police force is only gonna lead to more immigrants getting nightsticked.

Well THAT is why their here!
They are trying to care for their families and WE can't fault them for that. Anyone one of us would do the same.

If I were a young mother living in the conditions they are, i would take my children somewhere else to.

They deserve a shot at a better life!!
