One more thing. After a law is passed that violates the Bill of rights, it can only be challenged in a court of law. If it is never challenged in a court of law, it remains the law.

That is why people should challenge laws that violate their rights.

I agree.

We just dont all agree what 'rights' are or should be.

I have a plaque that I got from a Mason lodge. It is real nice on wood. It is the Bill of rights.

I know what my rights are because I read that plaque.

I'd say the founding fathers had a pretty good idea of what our rights are, they even warned us about tyrannical governments abusing power. Too bad a lot of us haven't gotten those memos.

yes, a document written during a culture that existed two hundred years ago, when guns had to be manually reloaded quite often, men hunted their food, and people grew their own crops

Im familiar, and find it as open to interpretation as the ten commandments,,,,,

Yes because "reasonable" is very open to interpretation.

true, I find wording in most of the ten to have more than one potential interpretation,,,

I prefer going with my feelings.

If I feel violated, then I probably have been violated.

There can always be some law on the books that justifies an unreasonable act by the state.

A law cannot be changed unless it is challenged in court, therefore a law is not the final say.

I don't think I should be made to wear a seat belt.

I dont feel I should have to either, but I dont feel quite violated by the precaution either,,,because I know of more reason to do it than I can to not do it,,

I don't.

I am a careful driver. If I go on a trip I will usually buckle up because the truck drivers are risky and they do dangerous things like speeding and passing when they shouldn't. Other drivers as well.

But I live two blocks from my supermarket. Two residential blocks. I don't feel a need to buckle up to go two blocks simply because it is the law. I believe in the law of vibration and attraction and I am not attracting an accident. So I don't worry about it or dwell on it etc.

You wanna know something, at least in the case of the latter two, those aren't exactly bad things! Maybe the people and the country itself wouldn't be in such piss poor shape if we took a little trip back in time. Heaven forbid we actually have to care for ourselves instead of relying on the system doing it for us.........

Two words, personal responsibility. The more you let them dictate to you what you can and cannot do, the less of it you have. Some things they ought to just keep their noses plain out of, the seat belt law is one of em.

There have been a lot of improvements in the system. I don't think I would want to go back in time where women were treated like property and didn't have the right to vote etc.

I remember a time in my own life where a woman couldn't get a bank loan without a man - or her husband signing with her. Its hard to believe, but that's the way it was.

I'm not saying it all was good Jeannie, just saying some things were better off back then than they are now, at least in the two examples I alluded to. We've lost touch with what it means to care for ourselves now, cause we really don't have to anymore.

The bad so much out weighs the good of "back then" I think I will elect to stay in this time.

If I was a white male, I might not object to going back in time. But blacks and women would not want to.

Sorry if I hit a nerve or anything, really didn't intend to. Again I am not at all saying there were not problems back then, just that....with regards to some things anyway, namely food and a few other things too, simpler was better. That's all.

Yes this is so true.

If it were not for ignorance, a simpler time would be much better. Better food, (harder to get though)

I would miss my modern conveniences. Heat, air conditioning, television, phones, etc.

Did you see back to the future though? Did you see the yellow water he was offered to drink? eeewww.

I don't recall that scene, which one was it in?

I think there could be a balance struck where we'd have the modern conveniences, but also not be absorbed by them to the point where we can't live without at least some of them if that makes sense. Lord knows I'm trying to find it.

I think it was the one where he went back to the cowboy days and met his ancestors.

I think the time I would like to go back to is the 60's or 70's.
