We all do have some kind of fear, fear of failure in exam, fear of failure in love, fear of ghost......
Fear of God makes many of us to behave in controlled way.
Some encircle themselves with imaginitive fear of disease, accident....
The effect of fear is generally bad.
What do you fear most?
How do you overcome your fear? scared

If I have to admit to fear of something; I would say failure in love. How do I overcome it; just stay busy and avoid it; however I still show love for family and friends; just not for a partner.

I was taught in my early service life to face the 'problem' again snd again to remove the fear of it. smokin

War is fear cloaked in courage.
General William Westmoreland

I read that on our local calendar in the nursing home this morning.

I like this quote, too by Franklin Delano Roosevelt.
The only thing we have to fear is fear itself.

In rehab I learned about the thousand forms of fear - some real and some imagined. Getting off mind controlling substances helped me to face a lot of the imagined fears. We used to have this saying, "Paranoia will destroy ya."

I have found that one can cut down on a lot of fears. For me, I guess I would rather have real fears than those imagined.

I think there is a difference about facing fear and getting knocked down. After you have been knocked down one too many times; its just not worth getting up. A good soldier knows when to retreat.

A good soldier knows when to withdraw, but he never ever quits.

Yes sir; I stand corrected. I just decided to withdraw for the rest of my life.

I was raised to not fear anything. Never ever quit. But I have found recently that I have acquired a fear that could not have been prepared for. Losing one of my children or one of my grand kids scares the **** out of me in our present state of the world. On a positive note though All of my kids are fighters and survivors and some of it is trickling down to the 3rd gens also. Not as thorough as I was raised but I did pass some of it down.

Most fear the unknown. We fear what we can't see. I think also all the darn movies showing creatures or maniacs with all sorts of nasty weapons hide in the dark. This fear was inbread into us as children. I am sure there are many other reasons that people fear the dark. I don't personally as if I was meant to die in the dark; so be it. I only hate stumbling over things in the dark as I am such a damn klutz. laugh

I blank it out.
Totally.
I am good at this.
I was abused as a child.
You learn real fast to go somewhere
in your head that the abuser
cannot touch.

I had nightmares every night of my
life stemmming from this.
Then one day, 40+ years later.
Guess what.
The abuser died.
Never another nightmare.
Gone, forever.
Pretty cool.

So, either I fear everything.
Or I fear nothing at all.
I am unsure.

In my life,,the ONLY way to get PAST the fear of ANYTHING is to combat it head-on,,,face it,,know my fear and set THAT aside,,as I then LIVE IT,,,as I go through what I had feared,,,its NOW,,NOT FEARED within me,,,because I (in a sense),,did it,,or admitted it to me self and through doing that...IT made me KNOW,,I really had nothing to be scared of to Begin with,,,except my own built up inner fears,,,which I never had faced...
I STILL suffer jitters,,when first meeting someone,,BUT,,THEY can't tell it at all,,,but to be real here,,,yes,,I still FEEL nervous,
apon meeting anyone even an employer,,or in doing any public speaking or singing,,all will have me underneath,,shaky,,until about two to three minutes doing,,,,Been that way all my life..

Yes I remembered your nightmare and your discovery of its cause.
But there must be some real things which cause fear in you.
A lot of people including me also fear writing/replying in this forum. :huh
Fear of what? explode

It's my imagination, I grew up in the bush and am not scared of the dark there as there isnt anything that can hurt me.. its only in town that I dont like the dark , to many strange noises and stuff everywhere.

Yeah, I think you are spot on Josie; it is mostly our imaginations when it comes to the dark.
