I enjoy reading the Bible so I cannot understand anyone saying that it is boring. You say that you have trouble understanding, but do you understand that it is a record of Gods dealings with fallen man. Do you believe that it's a true history?

You could get an ipod version if that would make it easier. I have NKV dramatised, it only cost me $15.

Why are you reading the Bible?

A good prayer from the psalms is... OPEN THOU MINE EYES THAT I MAY SEE WONDEROUS THINGS FROM THY LAW...

The Bible to the child of God is invaluable. It speaks of God and has God speaking to man.

If the Bible is too much though, I would recommend the daily devotional FAITH ALONE consisting of sermons from Martin Luther.

A very practical and well rounded source of good Christian contemplation.
Thank you for your input. I have the NKV Version, I dont have an i-pod, im reading the bible, so that I can better understand how to show my love and appreciation for him, other than just prayer or church, and what he really wants from me. I could answer all of these questions myself. Its not that I dont understand the bible, I dont understand certain context.

For example..In the new version, it was ok for 2 sister to get their father drunk and lay with him to have children, but homosexuality is a sin.

To me personally, I dont think that God has a problem with same sex relationships, possibly only that it is scientifically wrong to grow the population. But MORALLY, I dont see the all loving God, having a problem with 2 people, regardless of their sex, having a loving relationship. And no, im not gay, or bi, and I do support their right. But if I am to be a good Christian, according to the book, I must not sin against God, and that book is the marker that I am to use to determine what is and is not sinful.

That is where in my lack of understanding comes in.

And I prefer to not make myself a "custom fitted" God like soo many people do, and change the laws to make it ok for me to live the way "I" want to live. I would LIKE to live, the way God wants me to live. And im talking about beyond just "doing unto others" ect............

Just because that is a story in the bible didn't mean it was ok to sin and lay with their father. Were human were born into sin. Its the heart, striving not to sin for the love of God. For he loved you enough to send his son to die for you. Pretty much seems a sin to have sex outside of marriage. You pretty much would have to be celibute weather you liked same sex or not. Everyone has there cross to bear. All sin and fall short. Its just do yah get up and try again?

I have once again, started to try to read, the entire bible. Right now im in Genesis, and its already getting hard for me to understand. Is there a place, that would be a better starting place, for me? Is it necessary that I read about who had kids, how many they had, when they died, when their kids died, ect....

I have a VERY SHORT attenion span, and have recently devoted my Sunday afternoons, to reading the bible. But its really hard for me to stay with it, when its all so confusing. All the names, this kid, that kids kids, when they all died....its not only confusing...its really boring. NOT GOOD!

I want to keep my promise, to read the bible, on Sunday afternoons, but im already finding it difficult.

What do you suggest?

God bless you!flowerforyou

HI! For our case, I was advised by my leader to start reading at the Book Matthew, to read the New Testament before the Old Testament. I don't know. You may want to try it too.

Thank you Gline. I am about half way through it, I know, I should of finished it by now, but I have since quit going to church, since I dont like the way they are conducting services at the Christian Church.
Like I have said before, I dont think I will fall into any one congregation by the time I finish the bible. But I do know that I believe it God, I love him, he loves me, I feel him, and I do my very best every day to please him...and of course I still pray ALOT!

reading the bible gives more wisdom and knowledge, reading it makes me feel that God is talking to me. But the sad thing is, sometimes i easily get bored.and can't fully understand what it means.

Read Proverbs, what ever day it is start with that chapter, 1, 2, 3,
do the same with Psalms with this book if you add 3o days to say chapter 2, chapter 32 would be next and you would read 5 Psalms a day. Then start with the New Testament and just let it absorb into your thoughts. Don't try to analyze it, then it gets confusing. God will reveal what he wants you to know. Just make it a daily habit to read His word.

Hello Luv I'm glad to see you are still seeking...

You remember your parents talking to you and guiding you until you were grown...

Well God is guiding you and preparing you for when you see him. You learn from him by praying, fasting and of course reading his Word. It is your handbook for spiritual life. As long as you continue seeking him he will always surprise you with what he reveals in his Word.

Here is a passage from Hebrews 4:

Hebrews 4
New International Version (NIV)
A Sabbath-Rest for the People of God

4 Therefore, since the promise of entering his rest still stands, let us be careful that none of you be found to have fallen short of it. 2 For we also have had the good news proclaimed to us, just as they did; but the message they heard was of no value to them, because they did not share the faith of those who obeyed. 3 Now we who have believed enter that rest, just as God has said,

So I declared on oath in my anger,
They shall never enter my rest.
And yet his works have been finished since the creation of the world. 4 For somewhere he has spoken about the seventh day in these words: On the seventh day God rested from all his works. 5 And again in the passage above he says, They shall never enter my rest. 6 Therefore since it still remains for some to enter that rest, and since those who formerly had the good news proclaimed to them did not go in because of their disobedience, 7 God again set a certain day, calling it Today. This he did when a long time later he spoke through David, as in the passage already quoted:

Today, if you hear his voice,
do not harden your hearts. 8 For if Joshua had given them rest, God would not have spoken later about another day. 9 There remains, then, a Sabbath-rest for the people of God; 10 for anyone who enters God's rest also rests from their works, just as God did from his. 11 Let us, therefore, make every effort to enter that rest, so that no one will perish by following their example of disobedience.

12 For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart. 13 Nothing in all creation is hidden from God's sight. Everything is uncovered and laid bare before the eyes of him to whom we must give account.

Luv....Gotquestions.org, is one of the FEW TRUSTED

websites that line up with scripture.

I agree with what is shared on there....

again, it does

not go contrary to God's Word, but instead, lines up with God's

Word.

You may ask questions to get answers on there , also.

...............Question: "Why was Lot's wife turned into a pillar of salt?"..................

Answer: Genesis 19 tells the story of the destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah. Lot, Abraham’s nephew, lived in Sodom with his family. His daughters were engaged to local men. Lot was sitting at the gate of Sodom, the area where financial and judicial transactions took place, when two angels came into town. Lot invited them to stay with his family. After a rather exciting evening, the angels made sure Lot, his wife, and his two daughters left before God destroyed the city (Genesis 19:13). As they fled, the angels warned them, "Escape for your life! Do not look behind you, and do not stay anywhere in the valley; escape to the mountains, or you will be swept away" (Genesis 19:17).

Lot ran, his daughters close behind. “But his wife, from behind him, looked back, and she became a pillar of salt” (Genesis 19:26). She lagged behind. She turned and watched the flaming sulfur fall from the sky, consuming everything she valued. Then it consumed her. The Hebrew for “looked back” means more than to glance over one’s shoulder. It means to regard, to consider, to pay attention to. The Scriptures don’t say whether her death was a punishment for valuing her old life so much that she hesitated in obeying, or if it was a simple consequence of her reluctance to leave her life quickly. Either she identified too much with the city—and joined it—or she neglected to fully obey God’s warning and she died.

We’re fortunate to receive similar warnings. Ephesians 4:22-24 tells us to take off the old self which is ruled by sin and be renewed, putting on the new self that is in the likeness of God. Similarly, 1 John 5:16 says that willful, deliberate sin can lead to death. Lot’s wife wasn’t able to accept that. What she chose to value in her heart led her to sin, which led to her death.

The Bible isn’t clear whether Lot’s wife was covered in the salt that rained down with the brimstone or if her remains were dusted with a coating of salt later. But it is interesting that she is described as a “pillar.” The Hebrew for pillar is natsiyb, which refers to a garrison or a deputy, something set to watch over something else. The image of Lot’s wife standing watch over the Dead Sea area—where to this day no life can exist—is a poignant reminder to us NOT to look back or turn back from the profession of faith we have made, but to follow Christ without hesitation and abide in His love.

IMHO. I think she is trying to see how God wants to work, maybe that's the reason for closing the eyes during prayers
