Do you take humor personally?
If so, is it the pretentious act of "political correctness," or rather insecurity at fault? Please, enlighten me. ... |

I take very little to heart anymore, even if people seem sincere. It is extremely hard to hurt my feelings as a result. People can only take what you give them.

No, I don't take it personally for the most part.
You can use the word 'redneck' in the one area of the country and you are seen as a God. When the same word is used in another area of the country you are seen as the lowest form of humanity. There are only a few words in our language that will upset me and that only happens when the words are used in a certain vicious tone, in a one-on-one conversation. I think the tone triggers my insecurities more than anything else and I react defensively. Comedy uses more generalized humor and I don't think I've ever been offended by that. |

People make the choice to be offended. Whose problem is that?

We live in a world where everything is so freakin politically correct, it doesn't really take much to offend SOMEBODY. I'm always cracking jokes, and it's such a pain having to look over my shoulder. Normally I don't care, but I've already been called into the boss's office once. Let's face it, we live in a world full of pu$$ies.

Please, enlighten me. ... its personal taste. with me a comedian is humorouse if he or she laughs at themself as heartily as they laugh at others and vice versa a comedian who is always poking at other people or groups lacks creativity and integrity my brother made a living as a comedian and he told me the good ones are actually very observant and intelligent and they have to make jokes of all the things they observe to stay grounded and not get depressed,,,,but that includes looking at their OWN flaws and not just projecting their insecurity off on others,,, |

People make the choice to be offended. Whose problem is that? I have to disagree. Feeling offended is a reactionary impulse. Like fear. When you reach down to pet your black cat with the white stripe down it's back and it sprays you, you and your senses are offended. Not a choice. To harbor resentment is a choice. |

When you reach down to pet your black cat with the white stripe down it's back and it sprays you, you and your senses are offended. Not a choice. To harbor resentment is a choice. Reactionary impulses can be controlled. Otherwise, what a sad world it would be if we had NO control over our reactions whatsoever. My point is, you CHOOSE whether or not to be offended by another person's words. It all depends on how much control of your own thoughts and actions you're willing to delegate to others. Involuntary reactions aren't the same thing at all. You put your hand on a hot stove, you pull the hand back. It's automatic. There's really no correlation with that and being offended. Words are just words. If you choose to be offended by them, that's your prerogative. |

I pretty much laugh at anything as long as its al taken in context. If its meant to get a laugh...theres no harm. If its meant to degrade or put down....its no good.

Shock for shock's sake and colorful insults are incredibly boring, and lack "real" observational skills. I find light self deprecation and evaluation to find commonalities much more interesting. However..it's hard not to chuckle at a good ole d!<k joke. |
