I see where funches is going with his side. I disagree though.

If I say my screen name is yellowrose10, that isn't a lie. It is my screen name. If I say my nick name is Kim, that isn't a lie. It is my nick name (among several)

If I claimed those were my real names, then that would be a lie because they aren't my real name.

I agree with this. Funches is assuming we're all saying our screen names/user names are our real names and that's just not the case.

I'm only suggesting that the Internet provide a virtual world where truth is no longer included into the equation pertaining to morality ...

and that if one participate in askewing from the truth on the internet while at the same time justifying why the askewment should be considered as being truth...,

then why expect others to be honest and not askew from the truth whether on the internet or in the so called real world

Funches,

You are right. The internet makes it easier to lie IMO.

But if I say my screen name is yellowrose10, then that isn't a lie. It is my screen name.

It's not my real name. I don't think anyone would believe it was even if I told them it was my real name laugh

But it is my screen name.

I was reading through this trying to figure out what kind of lies are being discussed. When it comes to describing yourself - either with a screen name or with words - it's a self perception. If I say I'm a 6' Blond - well that's a pretty obvious lie - but if I say I think I'm friendly and fairly attractive - you may disagree, but I believe it to be true. And my screen name describes me perfectly - but no one will no why.

oh dear really fierce argument about dishonest. i want to add something regarding the screen name. did anyone claim that the screen name is his/her real name? if he/she claims and his/her screen name is not the real name then he/she is dishones. ok for examle my screen name is afriend4you111, my real name is anish khadka. if u say that i am trying to be dishonest in the sense that my real name is other than my screen name then the world will laugh at you. did i ever claim it to be my real name? so shall we stop the argument here and be focused towards the real sence of dishonesty in love??? thank you.

do you go around the real world claiming that your birth name is "afriend4you111" or would you consider that to be dishonest...if so then why come on the Internet claiming that it isn't ...seems sort of dishonest don't you think?...what's next...a fake picture of you....oops I meant a screen picture of you

but anyway since you express about focusing on the real sense of dishonesty of Love...there are no rules when it comes to Love ..

love is all an illusion...the term Love is generally used as a way to dignify the unexplainable or irrational things people do ...

when one claim that they feel love....what they feel is most likely either lust or gas

oh dear dear really debating on nothing. just be cool and see what you are writing. no way u are going to claim your sreen name to is real or not. you need not print it in newspaper or go to every door in the city to say that the screen name you have in a site is not your real name so dont be confused. if u have claimed it to be real to someone then you are dishones. if u havent claimed it to be real then a wise person cant consider you dishonest. dont care for those other than wise people. it will be waste of fun time. thank you

well some people birth name may indeed be Yellowrose or even Frankenstein.....because you reveal that Yellowrose is your screen name does not therefore make it truth...it only mean that you confessed that it's not the truth and if it's not the truth it's therefore is or was a lie

it is just one of the ways that "Everyone Lies" and/or askew from the truth ...another example of this when it comes to dating is the term "seperated"... people have justified in their minds that seperated means Divorce or impending Divorce ...but the truth is the person is still married

you said that you wished to focus on the dishonesty pertaining to love or in a relationship...well give an example of that type of dishonesty you are referring to and I will used that example to show how someone will try and justify why it's not dishonesty with the same type of reasoning that you use to justify why a screen name is not a lie

my point was that in some shape form or fashion "Everyone lies" ...whether to others or to themselves

True statement.

Yet, conversely, so is the statement "Everyone tells the truth".

What's the real point of the debate here? Both concepts are subjective, meaning only the individual in question can know the answer on whether they are lying or telling the truth in any given situation. And not to mention that both are measured in degrees, not in absolutes.

So what? Everyone lies. Of course they do! That statement has about as much meaning as "everyone has a heart". It's completely up to you on what your intrepretation of the statement means.

If the debate is about screen names, then I side with those who say they aren't lying, despite the fact that my screen name is actually ironically the "truth". My last name is Wright and I've never been married, so technically I'm a miss, as in, swing and a miss on the marriage thing. Does this mean I'm honest about everything always? No way man! I lie when I need to...to spare other peoples feelings, for instance.

I guess I'm confused as to why you think people are lying when they use a screen name, as by loose definition, it's a name you choose for yourself while using the computer. They aren't lying just because they didn't put down the name on their birth certificate. To claim they are would lying, would it not?

Well I guess if we are all liars cause we use screen names, so be it!! BUT I cant think of a finer group of liars on this site Id rather know, cause alot of us are like family and lean on each other through good times and bad!! SO I guess we are a family of liars that tell the truth!!flowerforyou

people used screen names long before the existence of computers which means just because someone log onto a computer doesn't makes it ok to lean away from the truth...that just adds to the myth that it's ok to be dishonest as long as one is on the computer which would explain why people resort to using screen names ....

but if one feels the need to use a screen name for whatever reason then why complain about the dishonesty of others because those others may resort to dishonesty for the exact same reasons why people resort to using screen names....that was the point I was trying to get across to the Original Poster
