does telling lies ever benefit anybody?i guess what i mean is ,even if you don,t get caught in the lie,are you glad that you lied later.doesn,t every lie come back to haunt you,one way or another.it seems to me that there is a lot more talk about dishonesty on this internet site than in real life.does anyone else notice this.if so,do you think maybe its because people are more likely to admit their dishonesty on here or that maybe its got something to do with the group of people who frequent these sites?

I wonder about the same, although in relationships and in simple life, lying is one thing, you might screw up one person or 2 but I worry about the liars in Washington DC, which effects millions of people.

I don't know how they sleep at night, after ruining the lives of millions.
they don't think about it Atlantis - just always watching their backs- it's a sea of sharks that world

a name is not a screen name...they are two separate things.

It would be a lie to agree with you.
that brings up a side topic that is kind of a pet peeve of mine. I agree with u we shouldn't lie just to agree on here. But some OPs get mad if u don't agree with. Free Country, what?

I guess the thing to do is stay offa the thread, or just comment on silly stuff

I don't use my full name on paperwork for my paychecks.

I'm not going to call my friend James Jinglheimer Schmidt all the time everytime. He will be James or Jimmy or whatever short form he wants. Despite what the birth certificate might say, some folks don't come across that way and nicknames are better labels.

Everything else is redundant and pointless to rehash.

to not agree with me is to lie to yourself ...a screen name is a fake name it's being dishonest ...it's simply not your real name it's a lie....why does the rules about what a lie is change when one log onto The Internet

I can't believe that anyone would actually have to explain this to you. Screen names started as a security measure because it can be risky to publish your real name on internet sites - it's not a lie - it's a security function of identification, but I do basically agree with you that certainly enuff lieing goes on here laugh yup

nope. a screen name is how we choose to be recognised while using this account. It has nothing to do with our birth name...funches. We register, validate who we are and recognise the need to use a name of our choosing as do all people on here. Since we all go thru the same registration process it is known and therefore not a deception, not untrue, and not a lie.

This is important because many people actually live their lives with honesty. I do, and I am very thoughtful of it all. I am clear, and when I feel i have been misunderstood, I speak up to avoid intentional deception. I do not point out that my name is not 'klc' because of the nature of a 'screen name'...it is chosen by the user much like a parent chooses their childs name. It is the name I chose.

a name a parent choose for their child and place on a birth certificate becomes the child's real name ....a name you choose to give yourself other than which the parents have presented to you becomes a fake name...it's simply no way around this ...

even if one change their name legally or go into the witness protection program or been reincarnated the name you received at birth is your real name and all names and every name beyond that name is a lie ...

a screen name is simply a fake name it is not your real name and that what makes it a lie...why blame a website account as to the reason one choose to give a false name, that would be an indication that you are allowing others unseen and/or peer pressure to dictate your morality ...

this is why if one claim to live their life honestly and then choose to use any other name but their birth name then if they are truely honest they would recognized it as being a lie and not resort to lying to theirself that it isn't a lie ....

at least ..."To thy own self be True"

Venusenvy......yes the mother or the father are traditionally the ones that decide what their child's birth name will be....is this an indication that your parents didn't give you your birth name... or did you pop out of the womb talking and named yourself

And in doing so, has undermined his own credibility as someone who respects reason...at least to me...jmo.

Wow...you mean my credibility is considered undermined by those that believe that a false name on the my Internet is not a lie? ...please......if you choose to give a false name that is your choice....all I'm saying is since it's not your real name then it's a lie .....

as I said "Everyone Lies" in some shape form of fashion....giving false names on the Internet is simply one way people lie ....

Funches doesn't seem to be trying to defend an unpopular position as much as he is trying to instigate debate...
and he succeeded.

My screen name describes what I do for a living.
Others have told you about the meaning their screen name has in their particular life.
This doesn't constitute a lie or considered misleading in the least.

enlightenment at first will generally be unpopular

My screen name describes what I do for a living.

right...and if you robbed banks for a living I'm pretty sure you would be honest and your screen name would be "Bank Robber"

Others have told you about the meaning their screen name has in their particular life.

yes I guess their birth name has no meaning in their particular life

This doesn't constitute a lie or considered misleading in the least.

is it at least a white lie?
