interesting..
this is a difficult one, what I have come to realize is that not everyone is willing to receive "honesty" in the same way. This is to mean, when giving someone an honest answer - it not only requires tact, but an understanding of who the receiver is, and how they best receive information... IMHO: it is a special skill to be able to listen to someone, and provide honesty in such a way they can accept it. This can be both positive information and negative informaation just the same. Some people do not take compliments well, some do not take criticism well... and some just want to be included... basically, knowing the receiver - and how they best accept information will go a long way in effectively communicating with them - regardless of the information that is being conveyed... Everyone is different... so cannot communicate with all people in the same way!... Good luck! $.02 |

depends on the person and subject, most of the time i'll tell them "i really don't have an answer for that" or "i don't know what to tell you". other times i'll tell them my opinion or give them advice, some subjects though are really touchy and i really rather not stir up a hornets nest

because when someone is asking for your honest opinion they are already seeking a specific answer and are just hoping that you agree with them at that answer.....
when you disagree...being honet it is most often not what they wanted to hear but they were aware it might be a possibility but are afraid to admit it themselves. |

okay, i will put it like this, if someone's honest opinion of someone else is that they think this person is a complete, retard, ****head or whatever, then they should keep that opinion to themselves. if however, their honest opinion is something more along the lines of you offering an open, honest non-judgemental criticism well that's different.

horses are such beautiful amazing creatures... anyway, as i said, i stand by this statement, that if someone's "honest" opinion is a simplistic solution to a complex social problem, then that would annoy me, people are entitled to their opinion sure... another thing that annoyed me, is that i was just being myself online one day, and had one girl say to me in response to me saying that i'm a dog lover "oh no offense, i can see why a lot of people probably don't talk to you much" i mean what the hell?? nobody can accept people for who they are anymore, and i will always be just me and would sooner have little to no friends who like me for who i am then a lot of bad shallow friends that couldn't care less if i died tomorrow, aye? I'll tell Gentry that he's supposed to be that way. He's currently so full of piss and vinegar, I'm trying to figure out what I can do that will burn excess energy off his bratty self. LOL! Doesn't surprise me about the dog lover bit. I've found if you aren't willing to get rid of the animals, you're pretty much outta luck. Try doing it with 2 dogs, a cat, 5 parakeets, a parrot, a conure and a cockatiel, 12 goats, 2 horses, 9 cows, 2 pbpigs, 4 turkeys, and 60 some odd chickens. People always act like I pulled them out of the closet or something and went "oh, by the way"... |

I guess because I am such an animal lover, I would have no complaints being around so many lovely creatures, that wouldn't be any threat to a friendship let alone a relationship.

I could not agree more. I always ask for an honest oppinion and love when I get it , reguardless of the answer as long as it is sincere.
example.. I am always cooking and love to get input on how things come out. When I ask " how is the food " " how can I improve on it " I really want to know. after all, how else is ones cooking ever going to improve and if someone can't be honest you are always going to give people food they do not like and you will never improve. people prefer different things,,, I prefer helpful opinions as opposed to hurtful ones (that goes for giving them and getting them)
If someone asks how the food is,,, I would prefer to say 'it could have used a bit more seasoning' to 'it sucked' but thats just me |

"You wear high heels....you ain't that tall.
You wear make up....you don't look like that. You wear a bra....your t*ts don't look like that. Remember that when you expect me to be honest with you." Kid Rock Love that quote |

oh come let's face it, honesty is a good think but if you're gfs bum looks fat in a great dress for example, then you wouldn't go telling her that.
