Come to think of it, I do get annoyed with people's brutal honesty sometimes. For instance, i don't mean this as a go at anyone here in particular, but often when I mention a problem in a relationship, often the advice I get in response is "oh just dump her", and I hate to say it, but for me, that's akin to me saying that I'm having issues at work and just saying "oh just quit your job" in response. Simply put, if I was to just quit my job, I would be in a much worse financial situation and it's not as easy to find work these days, with all these recessions people keep talking about. and don't even get me started on relationships, I guess my frustration is that too many people give such simplistic solutions to what are complex life problems. that's my take on it.

there's a certain amount of tact required when giving someone an honest answer. 'not being mean' is subjective.

telling me that i might find a more suitable dress is a little different than telling me i look like a pig in it.

exactly,, seems our culture has started revering RUDENESS as 'honesty'

and you seem like a beautiful person ,,,btw

I agree

lol,, ur a lovely couple

LOL no I mean I agree with your post...LOL

People can be poor conversationalists. At least when someone responds like that, you know not to talk to them seriously about anything anymore. My ex was like that. Extremely poor listener.

why is people ask for honesty and then get all ticked off when i give it to them...and really I am not mean about it just blatently honest!

Even if they get ticked off, that doesn't matter. Most of the time the truth will pi$$ everyone off, but once past the initial rage, they couldn't be more glad to know how things are in reality.

Sometimes a good dose of honesty is just what we need..like a wake up slap in the face, just without the violence...

hey Shasta, it's hard because I want to respect everyone's point of view, and not be mean about how I respond to others, but yes, it is a concern of mine when people respond to something in such a simplistic manner to complex life problems.

"If you search for tenderness
it isn't hard to find.
You can have the love you need to live.
But if you look for truthfulness
You might just as well be blind.
It always seems to be so hard to give.

Honesty is such a lonely word.
Everyone is so untrue.
Honesty is hardly ever heard.
And mostly what I need from you.

I can always find someone
to say they sympathize.
If I wear my heart out on my sleeve.
But I don't want some pretty face
to tell me pretty lies.
All I want is someone to believe.

Honesty is such a lonely word.
Everyone is so untrue.
Honesty is hardly ever heard.
And mostly what I need from you.

I can find a lover.
I can find a friend.
I can have security until the bitter end.
Anyone can comfort me
with promises again.
I know, I know.

When I'm deep inside of me
don't be too concerned.
I won't as for nothin' while I'm gone.
But when I want sincerity
tell me where else can I turn.
Because you're the one I depend upon.

Honesty is such a lonely word.
Everyone is so untrue.
Honesty is hardly ever heard.
And mostly what I need from you."

I think the defensiveness of the person you are addressing will show if they feel attacked by your honesty.

Blunt honesty is a tough thing to receive.

horses are such beautiful amazing creatures...

anyway, as i said, i stand by this statement, that if someone's "honest" opinion is a simplistic solution to a complex social problem, then that would annoy me, people are entitled to their opinion sure...

another thing that annoyed me, is that i was just being myself online one day, and had one girl say to me in response to me saying that i'm a dog lover "oh no offense, i can see why a lot of people probably don't talk to you much" i mean what the hell??

nobody can accept people for who they are anymore, and i will always be just me and would sooner have little to no friends who like me for who i am then a lot of bad shallow friends that couldn't care less if i died tomorrow, aye?

Everything that should be said shouldnt
always be said. You have to consider how much
you care about the person. Sometimes you have
to redirect the question, so they give themselves
the answer.

Insightful..spock

If an axe murderer or big ogre or something was hunting some innocent girl, about to chop her head off or something, and asked me if she went to the left into the forest or right towards the river, if she had gone into the forests I would definitely point to the river. and run like hell.

Honesty is a good thing. However, there are ways to be honest about things without being mean about them. It just takes a little thinking before blurting out something in a way that could hurt someone.
