I think theres a BIG difference between "HITTING" your child & "SPANKING" your child! really? What's the difference..isn't a "spank" a "hit"? seriously???? You ever been HIT??? it hurts like hell......its an intention to hurt someone!!! spanking is a mild way to discipline a child....your NOT out to HURT them, or give them all you got.....its to teach them!!!! I was spanked growing up, & I KNOW that you learn alot faster & children are ALOT MORE well behaved, have more respect! Kids nowadays have NO RESPECT whatsoever.....obviously they were never corrected, or spanked! smacking a child in the head, in my book is one of the WORST ways to try & teach any child anything.....that is cruel & very wrong! something is wrong with a parent that does that! |

I was responding to your post and asking..chill out. Yes, I have been hit and I have been spanked... a hand, a paddle, a belt..it's all still a hit. My children are not hit or spanked and are very nice respectful young men and I know many that are. "Kids nowadays have no respect whatsoever". What a HUGE generalization about our youth. I have found those who complain about today's young people generally have rotten kids and think the rest are like that! How unfortunate you don't know any nice young people. When people complain about the young people all I can say is..you raised them. Gawd, I love my sons, I am the luckiest mom EVER!! |

I have to admit,, I am one of those who notices and complains a bit about disrespectful children and mine are constantly complimented on their manners,,,
but my issue isnt some blanket assumption that they are bad or violent or disrespectful strictly because of whether they were spanked,, my issue is that WHATEVER the parent is doing isnt working and they need to try something else I HATE being at a store or restaurant and having to listen through a whole meal to someone telling their kid 'stop that johnny,,johnny stop that,, johnny mommy said stop,,,,' and on and on and on If the 'talking' isnt working,,move on to something else and spare the rest of us,, If talking does work, I commend the parent just as much as the one for whom spanking or time outs work. |

I just get real tired of the sweeping generalizations that kids are all disrespectful and out of control "nowadays". With the ages of my sons that puts them all smack dab in there and because they are such good kids it gets old...there are many good kids out there, some have been spanked some haven't. Like I said, I'm very fortunate.

The point was there is a huge differnce between a little smack on the azz and being punched in the face. |

Well, our MEDIA does alot to encourage disrespect amongst the younger ones. WE didnt have NEARLY the access and number of smart alec kids to emulate when I was younger,,,,
but there has to be a foundation at home that counters all that and I personally think the trend has grown as more families have become separated and more fathers have been absent from the home.... I first started noticing it not as an adult , actually, but when I was still a teen. there just seemed to be this HUGE shift in how kids talked to adults if they even acknowledged them as the adults in the first place. |

All I can go by is what is written.... all i can go by is what IVE EXPERIENCED.....not written! as far as one attempting to make a point in a forum all I can go by is what they write...since I have no idea of their experiences I would hope they could articulate their point in the written word. |

please keep in mind....i didnt say ALL children......i said ALOT OF THEM........... "Kids nowadays have NO RESPECT whatsoever.....obviously they were never corrected, or spanked!" This is your quote... yes I DID SAY THAT.......................!!!!!! let me clarify it further then......KIDS....meaning kids that are in school, young teens, under age ect.....MOST DONT HAVE RESPECT..... kids that have grown up, have obviously more respect....with the correct discipline in their lives! |

please keep in mind....i didnt say ALL children......i said ALOT OF THEM........... "Kids nowadays have NO RESPECT whatsoever.....obviously they were never corrected, or spanked!" This is your quote... Kids nowadays don't have any respect. Not all of course but in general no they don't. I have gone up to K-Mart and got chit from a group of kids maybe 14 years old just cause they thought it was fun. I know I never would have done that as a child. |

All I can say is I know, personally, MANY great young people...teen years all the way up to my oldest boys age and above. Too bad ya'll have has such bad experiences with them. Those kids have had my back on more than one occasion and I find them to be quite insightful.
