Young man so many miles away from home
Writes a letter to the child that he loves
He starts by saying hello my little angel
Then tells how he is so sorry he has to be so far away
How he misses reading those bedtime stories
Feeling his head on his shoulder as he holds him tight
Says he is having mommy read you this letter
In hopes you will understand why I can’t be home with you
You see your Daddy is an American soldier
Who had a duty to answer when he heard freedom’s call
You see there was this day in September
When bad men hurt America they made a lot of children cry
So your daddy joined some other soldiers in going overseas
To fight those bad men to make sure they no longer hurt anyone
I’m not sure how soon I can come home
So please do me a favor until I can comeback
Be good for your mommy when she tells you things to do
Give hear a little kiss if you see her cry like she does for you
Wrap your arms around give her a big hug for me
I will do my best to hurry home and hold you once again
Just as soon as the job I have to do is done
He closes the letter saying I love and miss you
So as the mother tucks the child into bed that night
Right after she makes sure to hug and hold him tight
The mother and the child whisper a bedtime prayer

As I lay me down to sleep

and if I was a little older then, I would have been saying the same
thing while you were out doing that governments bidding. I would have
been telling people to bring the troops home just like the anti-vietnam
war crowd did (they were the true heros)

Humans as a whole race can't be trusted with a twig cause someone
somewhere will try to kill another for their twig as well. I wish we
didn't need people to protect us, but we do. And I agree with you that
this war sucks. It really sucks. But its happening right now and there
ain't a thing we can do about it until the President leaves office and
we can only pray that the next President has the sense to plan a way
out. But going into every popular thread at the moment and capping us
to death about how ignorant we are on Memorial Day weekend is senseless.
So please wait until the holiday weekend is over to start harping again.
