Maybe I'm missing something but I don't see very much newbie bashing. I see smartarse/humor things. Usually the "bashing" goes on between people who've been here a while.

It's not about backbone it's about someone new coming onto this site, and who knows maybe this is their first time on any dating site. If they are already apprehensive about it then someone attacking them about their first post is likely to confirm their worst fears about dating sites. I do have a backbone but if someone did that to me on my first post and the site allowed it I would probably look for a new site.

Edit: It's more about tact than anything else, and if you don't have that then you're not likely to make it through "real life" either.

First of all, if they are that unsuccessful in the real world for dating, they shouldn't expect anything different online. There is no difference in the form of "dating", if that is indeed what that particular person is here for. That's where too many people make the misinterpretation. They think "online dating" is such a strange, unfamiliar territory, completely failing to realize that it's absolutely no different than if they were to meet somebody at the local Dairy Queen.

As far as "tact" goes, there's another thing too many people have no concept of knowing how to handle straightforward truth anymore. I don't sugarcoat things. If something needs to be said, I say it. I have a lot more respect for somebody who can lay it directly on the line than someone who p*ssyfoots around the mulberry bush, trying to choose every word they say carefully.

If some people get their ego bruised so easily because they have no backbone of their own, by something said by someone else on a website, how in God's name do they ever make it in real life? If that's the case, there's obviously more issues to them than meets the eye, and they probably have no business being in the internet in the first place.

truly an enlightened point of view. A modern day Confucious.. Have you ever considered writing fortune cookies for a living?

hhhhmmmm guess I realy do not that much attention to it....most of the sarcasim that I see, I take with a grain of salt. When I first starterd be active on here I was warned that there were some, for lack of words "wierd" people on here. But for the the most part everyone was very nice. The other thing that I have kept in mind is that anything goes on here as long as the site rules are not broken. In addition, I would think that part of getting to know someone is learning about thier personality. Things people say and talk about on here reflect thier past experiences and up bringings. Hand in there bird....It is a rouh world out here. The best thing we can do is let the newbies be aware of what types people on this site and to remember there are good people on here as well as those who really care... God Bless everyone on here it truly has been a good experince for me.

Now THAT would be a newbie bashing in reverse.

2 werds:wink:
Singles site,
dating site.

The average joe /joan would automatically expect SINGLES to be here.
and again, I know the drill here.. BUT.. many newbies don't.

And this is the thing that gets my goat....everybody seems to forget the third set of two words:

SOCIAL site!

Not everybody is here to "date". It's really not that tough of a concept for anyone to wrap their head around.

Actually, it is advertised as a dating site...

"Mingle2 - Free Online Dating Site - Online Dating Service."

The distinction of being also a "friend" site was made by the forum users and the forum users make up only a fraction of the membership here, so to the majority of the members do think of it as exclusively a dating site.

There are ways to tell the truth, be straightforward and not sugarcoat things without being rude. Some people are good at that. Some are not.

And some people on here haven't had a single date!
Many people are only here for friends.
