This is an open question for all to answer I would like it if we could stay on topic though. I would like to know the typical reaction of finding out on a first or initial date that your date was armed. And was not a member of law enforcement or security. Maybe you discovered it during the act of hugging them or something. My reaction to finding my date was armed (as in a female with a pistol somewhere on her person, or in her bag) was to instantly suspect she either wanted to "do me", or was in trouble with someone else... ...who might appear at any time, and I would either be the target (jealous x), or get caught in the crossfire. People who are unnaccustomed to carrying a pistol constantly telegraph this fact. A woman might typically carry it in a purse, and would likely spend a lot of time digging around in it, without pulling out anything. If she was carrying it tucked in the waist of her jeans, she would be constantly adjusting that area. A date carrying a weapon spells trouble. |

Actually i started this topic to be an open one where the person who was carrying was your date be it the male or the female. I do legally carry personally but that has nothing to do with it. I really just wanted to know how people would react if their date was to carry. If my date was to be carrying I would probably have a few questions like if she had a license or permit to do it? I might even ask if they had permits or licenses from multiple states for reciprocity purposes? What kind is it? I would offer to show her mine if I could look closer at hers. Would probably offer to go to the range together. I have gone on dates in the past while carrying and it may not even be noticed as I can conceal pretty well. I do not carry to make up for any insecurities of manhood. Nor do I need to commit a crime or borrow money for a date. The fact of the matter is I have gone through the legal checks to be allowed to carry and I do. My carry weapons include a $1100 dollar Custom Kimber Ultra Carry II with Crimson Trace laser Grips and a Smith & Wesson 649 that costs about $800 not counting the $230 crimson trace laser grip I installed on it. I carry for protection that includes the protection of the people around me from criminal activity as well. I kind of like the idea of knowing I have a way to protect myself and my daughter or possibly a date in case of emergency if we were to venture off our property or into a less then crime free neighborhood. A gun is, fifty percent of the time, A LIABILITY. Unless you have been specifically trained (as in law enforcement training...), it can be taken from you very easily. I seriously doubt more than 10% of the non-sworn (no police training), gun-toting public have been trained for avoiding being dis-armed. If you have a gun, and someone physically challenges you, what would you do? Shoot him/her, not knowing if they are armed, as well? Ever heard of, "Assault with a Deadly Weapon", or "Assault with Intent to Kill"? I wouldn't want MY FATE in the hands of THEIR lawyer, would you? If you announce, "don't come any closer, I have a gun!", this may very well only ENCOURAGE someone to attack you, as they may have a record, otherwise wouldn't be able to purchase a gun to rob the bank down the street. But along comes someone who is easily divested of THEIR gun. To some, this is worth the risk of being shot. My date, carrying a gun? "Honey, I forgot to take my medication; I need to run back to the house." Then call the police to come pick her up, and carry her home. If you're a woman who discovers your date is armed, go into the ladies room, call 911, and have an officer escort YOU home. Better to embarrass/be embarrassed than be dead. |

hmmm...it would depend upon who he was and what he did for a living. it'd also matter if he actually knew how to use it and was licensed.
that said, the relationship would go no further, as i will never allow my children to live in a home with firearms. |

I think if I went out a first date and was surprised to find the person was carrying a weapon I think it would have a definite chill on the date. Be it gun, stunner, or knife ect.; besides his own physical force; which I fully recognize is a weapon. Thank you for the previous post that notes that fact.
While I might not make them aware of the recognition of the situation by making a drama out of it immediately I would probably report it as suspicious behavior and let the police decide if they want to follow up. I am not a real big supporter of jumping to conclusions and calling the police into my personal life without something that might not be threatening behavior. Since I NEVER go on a first, and often, second date outside a contained area I feel safe in I would not understand how the date would see a weapon necessary. After years living in a profession where a weapon was often a very good idea, and not likeing that stress in my life, it would most likely end the relationship. If they did I would expect them to tell me that significant information and have a choice in the matter. To me it is an element of courtesy and respect. |

NO... let me drive home, get my gun out of the gun safe and then drive back to stop him.  OR- I CAN JUST PULL OUT MY PISTOL FROM MY SHOULDER HOLSTER, POINT IT AT THE MAN AND GIVE HIM THE CHOICE... STOP OR DIE!!

While I have no problem with people owning guns, I would be uncomfortable to find out that someone I went out on a first date with was carrying a gun.
