Now lets add to it.. How many were carrying or owned their guns legally??

Oh I'm sure some of them were really stand up guys who went in and got their gun permits and showed ID and everything, LOL

There ya go!!!!!
If I do decide to carry a gun on a date. I will just hang my Legal permit on my lapel!!!

LOL actually I think if people live in areas where it's common to carry guns, it wouldn't be a surprise to find out your date had one. I had a friend from Alaska and she said it wasn't uncommon for soccer moms to be in the grocery store with guns on their hips, to fight off the wild moose or whatever the heck they have down there. And from what my uncle told me about the place I live in now, (West Virginia, in case you haven't perved my profile yet) lots of people walk around armed too, for whatever reason. So if I decided to date someone from here (yeah, right) I wouldn't be surprised if he turned out to be "packing heat."

Carrying a weapon is a choice. If you are able to use it for your protection and you are convinced your odds are better surviving having it then do what you have the right to do.

My experience, and statistically, it is more often the case you will be disarmed and beaten or killed for having it. It is also much more likely that you will harm another innocent; often a spouse or your own children, or yourself.

In All the years that I was around professionals that were suppose to be able to protect me (from the people I was suppose to be afraid of) I was more often at risk from them. I have been threatened more often by people with permits than not. Funny thing about having one they learn real fast that it is very unlikely that their version of their behavior will not be protected by the blue line wheather they were right or wrong. Not saying any of those here are into that but it does happen.

JMHO When people are carrying a weapon they have a sense of saftey and power and they make stupid mistakes. My guess would be why so many peace officers and guards get killed.

This is why concealed carry requires passing tests (at least when I had one it did).

I had to attend hours of classes and demonstrate actual knowledge to get mine.

Use of force, legalities, actual ability to use weapon... and a lot of other things that (it was a long time ago) I don't have on the tip of my tounge.

I know.. If I see a woman getting beaten and raped on the street/alley, I will run to a local pay phone and call the police, then another 40 minutes for the cops to show up....

NO... let me drive home, get my gun out of the gun safe and then drive back to stop him.

slaphead slaphead slaphead slaphead

OR- I CAN JUST PULL OUT MY PISTOL FROM MY SHOULDER HOLSTER, POINT IT AT THE MAN AND GIVE HIM THE CHOICE... STOP OR DIE!! drinks

Does it really take that long for police to show up in your area?

My phone did something weird last week and called 911 when I wasn't home. The call was made at 8:22. The police arrived at 8:23.

slaphead Someone can strangle you or stab you to death in under 2 minutes!!! Cops would have been too late even in 8 minutes- and the 8 minutes is only because you live close to the cop shop... Many people don't. Think outside of your protected little world.
But hopefully you will be one of the lucky ones that never has to dirrectly deal with crime.

It would take more then 2 minutes to get inside of my house and get past my dog.

Think outside of my protected little world? I live IN the city of St. Louis.

I think alot of this just comes down to our human nature. A good woman feels the need to be a good mother and love their children, right.

Well, I think that a good man feels the need to protect those around him including his children, the mother of his children, his friends, his family, and in my case even strangers. I don't consider this to be macho either I just consider this being a good man.

Maybe I'm way off or wierd, but that is what I believe.

Are all of these people asking you to protect them?

I find that our society needs a reality check on just how dangerous times have become.

Check statistics, there is less crime. With a few exceptions...

Truth,, we hear of new violent crimes almost daily on the news,, not to mention thousands not reported in larger cities because it happens so often, hell there would be nothing but a crime paper and no room for anything else.
Welcome to the real world. some of us refuse to live in La La land.

I have been a victim, a witness and in a few cases stopped a crime.
Sure,,, someone who lives in the boondocks don't hear about all of the crime.
Then you just have those people that refuse to read the bad news in the papers or refuse to watch news on TV.
Ignoring crime does not make it non existent !!

No, ignoring it does not make it go away. But reporting of crime to police is up, and levels of crime are decreasing. Trust me, I am in no way supporting a gun free society, I believe in the right to bear arms is essential to a free society. But some arguments don't hold water.

i grew up around guns, my dad was an arms dealer until the ATF raided his home and took all his weapons and ammunition.
i have been able to load and unload guns since i was about 10, and have been able to take them apart and put them back together since i was about 14.
nothing about someone carrying a consealed weapon would bother me, i would almost expect it in texas, but if he showed signs of angry outburts or rage of any kind i would say there might be some issues,
i was raised with the belief that
"guns don't kill people, PEOPLE who use guns kill people"

I have one, Shoulder holster, but must wear a jacket over it to keep it concealed.
Even with a permit...the gun can not be showing in public.(in most states but not all)

It is so sad that my gun is all that makes me sexysad

What a load of crap!!
If a person has a legal permit to carry, Domestic violence is much less likely because one charge and they lose their permit.

Have you had to deal directly with crime? Is that why you always carry a gun?

If you would take the time to read previous post, you would already know the answer, and I do not carry all of the time.. you are getting me confused with the other guy.

Yes I was attacked, stopped a guy from beating a pregnant girl in the middle of the street, was in a store in Columbia when it was robbed, And have had my house broke into while I was sitting in the living room. Luckily he ran when he discovered I was home.

But... what made me get my first gun was ....
I had a female coworker that was often beaten, came to work with many bruises and black eyes, I talked her into going to a shelter.
Not sure how, but he found out that I was involved in her going to the shelter and started constantly threatening me, death threats, said he would come to my work and get me if he had to...
So I bought a gun. never had to use it because he was stupid enough to leave a death threat on my answering machine.
I let the cops listen to it and he was arrested.
I have never had to use my gun, but it is great to know that I have it if I need it.
Also live in a fairly bad area. had a stabbing and a shooting right across the street.
