Our president, who represents our great nation (USA), while at the G20 Conference saw fit to bow to the Saudi King (a tyrannical dictator) whose hand was extended in greeting. There were numerous heads of state present, all felt a handshake sufficient as their form of formal greeting.

Our President bowed to a foreign dictator!

I may be wrong on this, but I feel it was an act of servitude, embarrassing, approaching treason to our prople. After all, he was there as our leader, representing the population of our great nation, and the only one to bow to a foreign dictator.

You will also recall, 15 of the 19 suspected hijackers on 9/11 were Saudi citizens..... I believe it's the message that it sends...

Please, there is no need for elaboration as to your reasoning on this unless you wish to. A simple yes or no will work nicely.

The question......

In your opinion......

Should our president, our leader and representitive, have bowed to this foreign dictator?

Please reply rant or

Hell no. Our flag does not bow, nor should our leader, unless, like with the Japanese, it is customary.

Oh lord here we go again.

No there is nothing wrong with bowing if that is the statement of respect in that country.

Obama did nothing wrong. They both were confused as what to do and it turned out that each did what the others country respects.

NO BIGGIE already.

Perhaps we should be thankful that now we have a President with the sense to research foreign customs and traditions as opposed to one that can't pronounce "Nuclear." It was a sign of respect, maybe Obama didn't think a handshake was enough...

Exactly, but Obama can do no wrong in the eyes of his sheeple.

Its not a custom for foreign leaders to bow to a dictator, unless you're a peasant under their rule.

No it is not. There is f-ing kings anymore and respect being shown by leaders for other leaders is what should happen.

I would not want an ignorant, intolerant, arrogant, ass hole in office of this country who cannot be respectful of other nations.

Some people geeznoway grumble

He researched nothing or he would have known a bow was inappropriate!

The Japanese bow in greeting, to each other, mutual respect! Do you think for one minute this Saudi king would have returned Obamas bow, which he obviously did not? NEVER!

And if the bow is innocent, why is the white house saying it wasn't a bow?

Judge for yourself

Libelblogger Charles Johnson of the once-worthwhile site Little Green Footballs, careless with the facts as ever, has claimed that Bush also bowed to the Islamic supremacist monarch. In reality, Bush didn't. But it is certainly true that Obama is not the first U.S. President to kowtow to the masters of our energy fortunes, and over the years we criticized Bush here many times for doing so.

Still, there is enormous symbolic value in bowing to the King, as even the Obama administration is apparently aware -- because now they are denying what plainly happened:

"White House: No bow to Saudi," by Ben Smith at Politico, April 8 (thanks to Doc Washburn):

The White House is denying that the president bowed to King Abdullah of Saudi Arabia at a G-20 meeting in London, a scene that drew criticism on the right and praise from some Arab outlets.
"It wasn't a bow. He grasped his hand with two hands, and he's taller than King Abdullah," said an Obama aide, who spoke on the condition of anonymity.

The Washington Times called the alleged bow a "shocking display of fealty to a foreign potentate" and said it violated centuries of American tradition of not deferring to royalty. The Weekly Standard, meanwhile, noted that American protocol apparently rules out bowing, or at least it reportedly did on the occasion of a Clinton "near-bow" to the emperor of Japan....

For all I care he could have given a high five to the Saudi leader or a kiss on each side of the cheek. It doesn't matter to me.

I would be far more interested in knowing if President Obama's visit did bring closer relations, better understandings, and diplomatic solutions in bringing stability, peace, and prosperity between the nations.

Respecting different cultures and idealogies is most admirable and respected between the two nations. I hope we can continue to have a good relation with Saudi Arabia and maintain peace.

People are unaware how influential Saudi Arabia is in the Middle East.
